    Earthquake:

    An earthquake(also known as a

    quake, tremor or

temblor) is theresult of a sudden

    release of energy

    in the Earth's crust

    that createsseismic waves.

    JAPAN

Japan is an island nation in East Asia . Located

in the Pacific Ocean, it lies to the east of the

Sea of Japan, China, North Korea, South Korea

and Russia, stretching from the Sea of Okhotsk

in the north to the East China Sea and Taiwan

in the south. The characters that make up

Japan's name mean "sun-origin", which is whyJapan is sometimes referred to as the "Land of

    the Rising Sun"

Japan is an archipelago of 6,852 islands. The fourlargest islands are Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu and

Shikoku, together accounting for ninety-seven percent

of Japan's land area. Japan has the world's tenth-

largest population, with over 127 million people. TheGreater Tokyo Area, is the largest metropolitan area

in the world, with over 30 million residents.

    Industry:

    Japan has three major industries:

    1. Automobile

    2. Electronics3. Food

    Recent Earthquake:

    The most powerful earthquake

of 8.9 magnitude hit Japan in

    at least 100 years unleashed

walls of water that sweptacross rice fields, engulfing

    towns, dragging houses onto

    highways and tossing cars and

boats like toys, apparentlykilling hundreds and forcing

    the evacuations of tens of

    thousands.

    Destruction made by the

EarthquakeAn estimated damage is of 180 billion dollars.

The quake and tsunami have killed at least 10,000

    people.

Several explosions at a nuclear power plant north of

    Tokyo.

Many cities of the costal region lost their identities.Damages to the automobile and electronics industry.

    Effect on the Industry:

We know that the Japan is the worlds biggest

manufacturers in the automobile industry . Due to

the recent earthquake there was a great problem

in manufacturing parts as many plants were

damaged and some were completely destroyed.

Which has made the manufacturers to shut their

    plants for temporary bases.

Damage to the nuclear power plant:

The earthquake and tsunami did a great destruction

in the nuclear power plant .

Gases were released which were dangerous for

    health.

It was quite difficult to take control on the release o

    gases

It increased the over all price of petroleum due to

the huge loss of fuel .

    Precautions from these gases:

Gaseous radiation is easily transported by the wind but,

other than iodine-131, it is not too dangerous since it

does not stay in the body. Fortunately iodine-131 has a 8

day half life so in 80 days it is essentially all gone, thus no

really environmental clean-up is required. On the other

hand, radioactive isotopes such as cesium-137 and

strontium - 90 have about 30 year half life, so if these are

released in quantity ( this has not happened a tfukushima) , then one needs to avoid areas that have

    been contaminated by them

    Conclusion:

Japan has to work a lot to bring its position back

were it was and it is not possible without the

help of the global powers. We together should

help and work for the re-establishment of theland of the rising sun so that the people of the

japan can rise again as the sun rises from their

    land.
