DIP SHABU-SHABU RESTAURANTD I N I N G - E X P E R I E N C E - A L O N G - A N - E X P A N D I N G - D A L L A S - N E I G H B O R H O O D
-OBJECTIVE: Design a resturant to fit into the atmosphere and culture of the developing neightborhood DIP, a shabu shabu based resturant was designed with the intent to foster social connection and conversation at the table between strangers. A traditional japanese hotpot meal consisting of dipping meats and vegitables that is shared between all guest allow for a more casual relaxed eating experiance. Using communal styled seating, guest are seated side by side reminicant of the school cafeteria seating and intersection elements draws the eye to see the connection between other seating groups fostering the idea that everyone there is all connected and there for a common purpose.
CONCEPTDIP is located next to the Bishop Arts District in the Oak Cliff area. With the area growing and expanding to create a mix of cultures, a Shabu restaurant is a good addition to the scene. As the Japanese version of the hot pot, Shabu Shabu is geared more towards social dining. The name of the restaurant comes from the motion used to cook the various meats in the hot pot then eaten usually with a ponzu or goma sauce.
In offer to foster more social interaction and create conversaIn offer to foster more social interaction and create conversa-tion, the main dining area of DIP is set up in a communal dining setting with a long stretched table with no assigned seating. Several individual party seatings are present off to the aside along with a private dining room located in the back. Pulling a the natural colors from the trees, DIP makes a gesture at the traditional Japanese architectural styling.

-OBJECTIVE: Research programmatic concepts and create a workplace for an ad agency
Utilizing the floor plate of the Lincoln Towers in Dallas, TX and the use of a plenum flooring system, an office was created for 120 employees. Through company interviews, Allen&Gerritsen is clear on the importance of the creative team being able to collaborative environment. The design divides the different departments based on how closely related and crucial communication was between them, but also that they are a whole and part as one. Abstracting on the idea that the employees are the backbone to any companies, a central portal is created running through the length of the work space allowing for break-out spaces and alternative work stations available to all employees as a central “backbone”.

BANGS & OLUFSEN HEADPHONE DISPLAY-OBJECTIVE: Design a functional headphone display for any chosen brand
Deciding to go with iconic Danish brand Bangs & Olufsen, the headphone chosen to be represented in this headphone display was the Form 2 headphone. Designed in 1985 and now part of the MoMa permanant collection, the kiosk design emulates the sleek, slim, and minimal timeless design that the headphones are known for. Taking the idea of the metal gridded reveal when expanded, the top of the display slides open to reveal the demo pair of headphones and simply sits ontop of a stainless steel surface with integrated touch controls to allow the user to perform the basic functions to test out the headphones.
CONCEPT STATEMENT Using the the elements of the Form 2 head-phone model itself, the headphone display for Bang & Olufsen was created to show the light, thin, and sleek design of the product. The geom-etry of headphones influenced the shaping of the display and avoids using any circular forms. An aluminum reveal on the side of the headphones to allow adjusting contrast the single colored band influences the focal point of the display and where the headphones will be displayed. A lit up logo on the side of the fixture will cycle between red, yellow, orange, and white as a tribute to the new colors released on the 25th anniversary of Form 2. Designed by industrial designer Steve McGugan inin 1985 for Bang & Olufsen, the Form 2 head-phones were admired for its’ design and still has not changed since and was chosen to be included in the Museum of Modern Art’s permanent col-lection.

INVERSE TOPOGRAPHY-OBJECTIVE: Class project to create an installation to be showcased in the UTA architecture building
Through collaboration and brainstorming, an installation was formed through techniques of simple digital fabrication. By studying the transportation system and the population densities of the DFW metroplex, we were able to come up with a geometric “curtain” that was suspended and undulated.

DATA DRIVE PENDANT-OBJECTIVE: Design a lighting fixture for a tech company in the Silicon Valley
Taking upon the idea that the Silicon Valley is home of the high tech giants, Data Drive takes on the concept of one of the orginal forms of storage, the spinning hard drive. By taking edge lit curved ribbed glass panels and placing them on a rotating ring structure that rotate in opposite directions, a morray effect forms as different panels overlap one another playing off the idea as if the 1 and 0 located in different sectors of the hard drive were being re-read and put back together to form the information stored.
