REDUCING STIGMA AND DISCRIMINATION

Stigma and discrimination against children and adults with mental illness is widespread and reaches into schools and all other areas of life. It causes shame, prejudice, fear and hopelessness and inhibits may prevent children from seeking or benefitting mental health services.

Systems change is an opportunity to redesign services provision to avoid perpetuating stigma and discrimination.

Back to the

Future

Where does AB 114 Leave us?

As we did prior to AB 3632, we must rely on general provisions in IDEA and the Cal. ED Code for assessment, related services, and IEP development in advocating for children who need mental health services to benefit from education.
