The article by Christopher Moersch was informative on the aspect that although technology does exist in schools, the general purpose of its use in wrong. Moersch argues that the use of technology should be more than just a visit to the computer lab to type a paper; generally what occurs in most school settings. He argues that there are so many more various subject specific programs and websites that technology could virtually be used in any subject.

Moersch then goes into detail on how technology is used minimally due to the lack of “comfort” current teacher feel using technology. “Traditional verbal activities are gradually replaced by authentic hands-on inquiry related to a problem, issue, or theme. Heavy reliance on textbook and sequential instructional materials is replaced by use of extensive and diversified resources determined by the problem areas under study. This generally is an uncomfortable change for teacher unfamiliar with various changing technologies. ”

MY THOUGHT: I agreed with everything that Moersch

was saying especially the section on teachers feeling uncomfortable using technology. Even in many of my college classes teacher often resort to student help when using items such as the projectors and the various navigation with websites and programs. I think from his article to two most important technologies in education include podcasting and blogging.1.Technology is a emerging quality of the

world2. Education has to adapt as times change3. Fresh new take on keeping student interested

PRINCIPLES AND PEDAGOGY: THE TWO PS OF PODCASTING IN THE INFORMATIONTECHNOLOGY CLASSROOM

The article by Mark Frydenberg was big on the influence that podcast play in the school setting. According to the article not only do podcast generate a better understanding of technological use they also result in better public speaking skills.

Podcast are an interesting one way channel of communication in which both teacher, students and faculty members can interact.

Podcast are now conveniently available on items such as iPod, Smart Phones, and popular networking sites such as Myspace, Facebook and Youtube. “These devices have a tremendous consumer appeal that work to their advantage, particularly for younger students who may be impatient with other forms of teaching and learning.”

CONT’D…

The article continues to mention the positives that result from using podcast in the school setting. Including the option of the podcast being used as a studying device, resource for a missed lecture and even a personal tutor.

The great thing about a podcast is that most have the option of live feed via webcame.

MY THOUGHT: I love the idea of the podcast being

integrated into the educational field. Not only is this a great newly forming technology it is also one that can be used quickly, conveniently and often. Not to mention that it is a cheap inexpensive way to keep connected and informed.

Most of my online classes use the podcast feature including the live via webcam feature to complete projects, listen to lectures and a mean of review for test and quizzes. 1.Expansion of Education Globally

2.Cheap/Inexpensive3.Great study tool, personal tutor and creates better speaking skills

EDUCATIONAL BLOGGING: ATTENTION, ENGAGEMENT AND THE NEXT GENERATION

The article by Stephen Downes defined blogging as being the “virtual extension of the classroom” in the way that it opens a students restricted setting to a more open ended environment.

“Blogging is an opportunity to exchange our point of view with the rest of the world not just people in our immediate environment.”

Not only does blogging increase students skills with typing, language, technology use and reading it also creates a greater sense of culture.

Blog in an educational setting can serve as a why for teachers to post updates regarding test, answers to questions, homework, pop quizzes and thing along to manner as picture day or extracurricular events as well. Click to cont…

CONT’D… Blogging in an educational

setting is also a great way for student as well as parents to keep a personal journal of his or her progress. With the fact that blog are dated and most often time-stamped this feature allows students as well as teachers to search via date any specific item such as topic, reading assignments, pop quizzes and etc.

Blogs also hold a strong sense of security where passwords and acceptance from a master starter are a requirement enabling security and the comfort of privacy.

MY THOUGHT: Blog to me is the best kept secret in any

educational field. Why not implement a tool in which communication with parents, students and employees would not only be faster and more convenient but also organized. I love the options of privacy as well as the ability to continually keep in contact with particular individuals.

This will probably be the most used feature in my classroom when I become a teacher. Not only is it a fun way for students to use technology; it is a fun way for students to learn. 1.Fun

2.Easy 3.Convenient

CONCLUSION With a world constantly changing with various

technology, the same changes have to be made within Education. As time call for a more communicative environment, the same standards have to be introduce, implemented and used with our classrooms

Technology is a new, fresh outlook of the future of our classroom and the future of our students.
