Welcome NEORA Delegates! The City of Timmins is happy to be hosting the 2013 North Eastern Ontario Recreation Association Conference and it gives me great pleasure to extend greetings and warm wishes to all of the participants while welcoming you to “The City with a Heart

Of Gold.” This year’s conference theme “Are you In TIMMINS” is fitting if you consider that the City is currently involved in a

new branding strategy that will be driven by the I’m In, J’y tiens, story line.

I am honoured to have you visit our City at a time when we are developing a Master Plan that will guide Culture, Tourism and Recreation efforts for the City of Timmins. I know that your visit here will be a memorable one while you experience our hospitality. While in our City, I invite you to visit the Confederation Multi Sports Facility, and the Porcupine Ski Runners & Snowshoe Club, one of Canada’s largest. I also encourage all of you to visit the Timmins Museum and National Exhibition Centre to discover the work and passion of our many local artists and browse through the gift store for that special souvenir or one- of-a-kind gift. I trust that you will enjoy our northern hospitality and that your stay in TIMMINS “The City with a Heart of Gold”, will be a memorable one. Events such as these are the result of endless hours of planning and hard work by many dedicated individuals. To all of you who have made this endeavor possible, and to the many generous event sponsors, please accept my sincere appreciation on behalf of NEORA. I wish all delegates a productive conference. You In?

President’s Welcome Page 3

Greetings!

On behalf of the Northeastern Ontario Recreation Association Board of Directors and the Forum Planning Committee, I invite

you to join us at the beautiful Cedar Meadows resort in Timmins! The NeORA Educational Forum and Trade show is from

September 23-26, 2013 and promises to be one of the best yet!

We are thrilled to support and showcase our Northern neighbours in Timmins once again, after last hosting the conference here

in 2005. The Forum will host a wide range of topics such as social media, trails, and proposal writing to target the interests

of volunteer, professional and student delegates. I am confident that our keynote speakers and presenters will provide you with

inspiration and motivation to return to your community refreshed and revitalized! As well, your NeORA Board of Directors is

excited to reveal a new branding campaign with a fresh new look to hit the ground running for 2014 . . . . but it will be the

best kept secret until the AGM!

Don't miss this exciting opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, recreation/health professionals, trade show exhibitors and

students. We look forward to seeing you in Timmins - I'M IN and hope you are too!

Sincerely,

Cindy Dent

President,

Northeastern Ontario Recreation Association

Presenter: Jonathan Hack, Sierra Planning & Management

Many communities have a long history of creating and updating master plans for their recreational assets and services in delivering quality recreation to all sections of the community. Many facilities function concurrently as recreational, tourism and cultural venues. This session considers how these plans are being developed under the umbrella of an integrated plan designed to maximize the effectiveness of each plan and create a sustainable future.
