EDUCATIONAL COLLABORATION Promoting and advancing Portuguese The Coordination of Portuguese Programs in California (CEP.CA), a pedagogical and technical support structure sponsored by the Portuguese Government, enters into an Educational Agreement with the Luso-American Education Foundation (LAEF) to promote and advance the Portuguese language and its cultural heritage statewide. Language is part of the ident ity of a people . Language is an asset and has a high cultural and economic val ue. Language does not belong to anyone in particular, but its survival and productivity is the resp onsi bility of the whole community . Language empowers. Languages with more multilingual speakers gain more communicat- ive value. Languages are not ex- clusive ofeach other . Languages can be learned at any time in life, even though children have a special talent for it. Language learningexpands the brain. Adopt-a-Portuguese-School(AD - PT) The basic concept of this project has been popularized by well- known examples of “adoptions” of public services, spaces and equipment by citizens and organizations. In this way the indi- vidual and private sector of society can directly contribute for and participate in the maintenance of an esteemed public good. “Adopted” services can also be personalized or specially dedicated to the memory of a loved one.
