Education portal
Lars Barstad and Mariann Klingberg, Information Section
• Launched 1996
• Mainly documents; some fact sheets
www.stortinget.no
• Grew bigger and better over time
• Criticism: difficult to understand, especially for young people
• Aim: to make it more easily accessible
• Main target group: teenagers, especially upper secondary school students
• Plain language
• Simple information about the Storting
• Of interest to all groups – not just teenagers
• Difficult words directly linked to a dictionary.
• Designed to be more appealing to young people
Information presented in four different sections:
• "Democracy and power"• "What does the Storting do?"• "How does the Storting work?"• "How can you participate?"
• Also contained a quiz with questions about the Storting
• www.tinget.no launched in 2005
• Generally very positive feedback
• Good help in learning more about the Storting in particular, and democracy in general
Problems
• Student interviews with MPsHowever• Few classes took part
• Intention to have regular news updatesHowever• Little time for this• Same articles on front page for too long
• 2008: main website replaced
• Everything new, information texts rewritten
• Easier to understand than those on www.tinget.no
• More modern design
www.stortinget.no
• Main purpose of www.tinget.no now gone
• Needed redesigning to be worth keeping
• Decided to close it down
• Some features moved to ordinary website
The solution
Back to the mother ship
• An education portal
• Same address as www.stortinget.no
• But still standing on its own
Content plus
Moving towards a 3rd generation website?
Reusing stortinget.no features
• Frequently Asked Questions: main entry point to fact pages
• Easier access to programme for sittings, public hearings and parliamentary documents
• The MiniTing and 2050– Online application forms – Information and tasks that help prepare
and conclude the visit
Reusing other features
• Embedded Flickr (www.flickr.com/photos/stortinget)
• Twitter and identi.ca updates (www.twitter.com/stortinget and www.identi.ca/stortinget)
• Sharing content to other websites
such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc.
Example: Twitter
On the education portal
On the education portal
Reusing future features

• Feeds from MPs’ (active) blogs?
• Game and quiz
