Muslim Aid Hands over 90 Houses constructed with Rs.25.5 Million among Flood-affectees of Mianwali in Model Village Ganda Sharif Union Council Kot-Chandna Case Study During floods of 2010 Muslim Aid immediately responded to the immediate needs and early recovery of the flood-affected people and started its long-term development programmes for affected communities. Provision of these 90 permanent houses in Model Village Miawnali is also part of that rehabilitation plan of Muslim Aid for flood affected and vulnerable families . Muslim Aid’s Model Village Mianwali is providing shelter to 90 flood affected families of Ganda Sharif, Union Council Kot Chandna district Mianwali , and about 5000 people are being benefitted from it indirectly . Implementing the integrated model village approach Muslim Aid has addressed the Health, Education, WASH and Economic empowerment facilities in Model Village Mianwali .Muslim Aid has constructed 90 latrines and kitchen with these permanent shelters , has Installed 16 water hand pumps to ensure supply of clean drinking water, has provided health facilities for the targeted community by strengthening 2 government health units through human resource and technical support including 24/7 MNCh ,OPD and laboratory services .Whereas a primary school in Model Village Mianwali has also been strengthen through provision of human resource, class rooms furniture and IT equipment for computer lab whereas the running cast of the school is also bearing by Muslim Aid. Addressing the economic empowerment of the targeted community ,Muslim Aid has established a Skills Development Center in Model Village where flood affected and vulnerable females are being quipped with different type of technical skills like inc Sewing, embroidery, beautician ,Adda Work and Computer leaning courses. . Ms. Gulaan Khatoon a widow of 85 is resident of village Kandri UC Hazarwah talka Qubo Saeed Khan of Sindh Province (Pakistan).She was living a contented life before the flash floods washed away her home and belongings in July 2010. She heads a six member family; including 04 orphan grandchildren of her son whose mother had died some 02 years back due to maternal mortality. Her son Abbas Hussain, the father of 4 , used to work in farms to earn bread and butter for the family .but he has abandoned the family including his 4 orphan children and old mother soon after the flood of 2010 and has made his way to Karachi in search of a brightening future for himself after selling the only cow and a donkey cart, a total asset of his home . . Muslim Aid field staff, during implementation of IOM-ORS project in village Kandri met with Gullan Khatoon and her family ,dressed in tatters, living in a hut, and found them vulnerable to register for Muslim Aid Shelter Programme. On assessment, Gulaan narrated her story of hardships and difficulties she had faced during past few years. She told that some two years ago, she lived very happy and contented life with her son Abbas ,his demised wife and their 3 children .Abbas Hussain used to work on sharecrops and farm labor ,while sufficient cattle including 02 cows and few goats were quite enough for them to live happily .But then bad times knocked at their doorstep .Gulaan Khatoon’s daughter in law breath her last after Gulaan Khatoon : A Brave-heart poor woman caring 04 orphan grandchildren gets her home rebuilt through Muslim Aid-IOM One Room Shelter (ORS) programme

    Country Director Mr.Khubaib A vahedy handed over a Mobile Plasmapheresis Unit and Kits to Pakistan Myasthenic Welfare Organization (PMWO) for Nishter Medical Complex Multan. Plasmapheresis is a blood puri�cation procedure used to treat several autoimmune diseases including lethal Dengue virus.This Mobile Plasmapheresis Unit will be installed in an ambulance and will be operating by PMWO from Nishtar Medical Complex Multan. He said that through this unique health service project, many precious lives would be saved .Under this project free of cost treatment will be provided the most vulnerable patients of Dengue and Myasthenia Gravis in Multan,Bahwalpur ,Muza�ar Grah,Raheem Yaar Khan and Dera Ghazi Khan districts

    Muslim Aid Pakistan launched a mega mass media campaign of WASH (Water Sanitation and Hygiene) in Khoshab, Mianwali and Bhakkar . This comprehensive print and electronic media campaign was based on Newspaper Ads, TV commercials ,Radio Spots ,Radio Jingles and talk shows which were released and on air in national newspapers, TV Channels and local FM radio

    stations of the targeted districts .The mass media campaign was meant to raise awareness among the �ood a�ected communities of the targeted districts the above mentioned districts for use of healthy and hygienic practices in daily life . Through this mass media campaign people were advised and told to use boiled drinking water, use of latrines, adoption of hand washing practice in their

    daily life. street theaters were also organized under this wash mass media campagin and a sizable and positive feedback from the local community was reported in result of the mass media campaign.

    Teachers Training Workshop

    Muslim Aid distributed 400 Food Packs among Zakat Eligible Families

    For the Capacity building of the sta� of Streets to Schools Project and Rainbow Family Programme a 3 day workshop “Enhancing Child Development and Educational Practices”, was organized at Muslim Aid’s Country O�ce .Main purpose of the workshop was to build upon the knowledge skills of teachers and head teachers to deliver project objectives in compliance with the set standards and acquaint them with international standards in education and child development. In the 3 day training workshop the teachers and sta� of Street to Schools and Rainbow Family Program was sensitize on the issues of orphans and working children and were told the techniques to address these issues through

    psychosocial support in class rooms along with provisions of good quality education through modern tools of lesson delivery.Country Director Muslim Aid Pak, Khobaib A. Vahedy welcomed the participantson the �rst day of the workshop. He emphasized on the need of quality work from education sta� to contribute to the target of Universal Primary Education. The sta� expressed their thanks to Muslim Aid for arranging the workshop and expressed their wish for such more activities in future.Mr. Khobaib A Vahedy, distributed certi�cates among the participants on last day of the workshop.

    Muslim Aid Pakistan has

    distributed 400 food packs

    among the Zakat eligible families

    of Burma Town (Islamabad) and

    Girja Road(Rawalpindi) .This

    distribution was made under

    Qidwai Welfare Projects (a

    permanent donor of Muslim Aid ).

    The food packs distributed

    among vulnerable families were

    designed according to one month

    rationing needs and each food

    pack was �lled up with Rice, Ghee,

    Sugra, Flour ,Grim �our, Pepper

    and Lentils.

    Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAWW) celebrated with great enthusiasm For the faithfuls, Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAWW) is a highly regarded religious festival as they express gratitude and thanks to Allah Almighty for blessing the universe with Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him) to Muslim Ummah.In this regard a non formal ceremony of Edi Miadun-Nabi (SAWW )was held by the teachers and

    students of Street to School project of Muslim Aid Pak at Tarali and Burma town Centers in Islamabad .The student and teachers praised in the glory of Holy Prophet (PBUH) by narrating “naats” and expressed their love and consideration to the Holly Prophet (PBUH) .

    New Skills development Center RawalpindiCommitted to its goal l of economic empowerment especially of less blessed women through skills based programmes,Muslim Aid Pak has established another Skills Development Center in Rawalpindi. Under the umbrella Of economic empowerment the new SDC will help in to ful�l the pressing need women empowerment economically and to create more opportunities and income generating activities to enable them to survive, prosper and provide support for their families. The newly established SDC is the addition of 5th member to the Muslim Aid’s SDC family, existing in Chakwal,Mianwali,Jampur,and Jaraid.

    Annual Review 2011 MeetingA three day Annual Review Meeting of Muslim Aid Pakistan for the year 2011 was held at Pearl-Continental Hotel Bhurban on Thursday 26 to 28 January 2012. Purpose of this meeting was to have a comprehensive revision of a range of projects being executed by Muslim Aid in three di�erent provinces of Pakistan. The idea was to bridge the gap between past challenges and future implications while discussing the present i.e. project objectives, activities and budgets in detail. A total number of 24 sta� members serving Muslim Aid Pakistan in di�erent capacities keenly participated in this Annual Review.
