Dear Danielle, Check out what we have been up to in September!
Back 2 School A new school year brings about excitement, and we are excited to welcome over 80 students to the PPDC After School Program this year! As, always we have a variety of activities planned for the students throughout the year. In addition, the education team has introduced a new concept, jobs and budgeting! If we want to teach students to be responsible, we must give them responsibilities. THEY CAN DO IT! Each PPDC student now has a classroom job and money
they can earn performing various tasks. In order to be selected for their position, students had to fill out an application. For jobs that carried more responsibility, students had to get recommendation letters for from PPDC staff. Jobs offered include: Attendance Monitor, Banker, Custodian, Equipment Manager, Horticultural Specialist, Homework Monitor, Librarian, and Sheriff. The PPDC staff is especially excited to have more help around the Center!

PPDC participated in the Amazing Raise again! This year, with donations and a bonus prize we raised $9,427. Staff and friends of PPDC ran/walked in the Amazing Raise 5k too! One of our team members dashed to the finish line in record time, claiming the Fastest Female Award in her age group earning us the bonus prize of $500. Thank you to those who were on Team PPDC! TEDx Meets PPDC
Are you familiar with TEDx? It is a nonprofit organization devoted to ideas worth spreading. The California based organization has inspired Richmond enough to form TEDxGraceStreet! Organizers say, "TEDxGraceStreet is a community effort, and we want both the speakers and the attendees to reflect the diversity and energy of our community as much as possible." The TED experience launching in Richmond is validation of the greatness in our community! Our very own Damon Jiggetts was invited to speak at Richmond's TEDx event on September 20. He addressed the audience on the subject of "Giving with Expectations" and received rave reviews via twitter!
