Eduroam Setup Guide
Windows 8
When prompted for your Username, enter it in the following format;
● Staff: [email protected]
● Students: [email protected]
This guide applies to Windows 8 Tablets/Laptops and Mobile Devices. Using the built-in Windows
8 wireless management application.
Throughout the guide Green Indicates the setting must be changed and Red Indicates actions to be taken while proceeding to the next step.
1. Go to the Windows 8 Desktop and open the “Charms Bar” by pressing Windows Key+C
together or swiping in from the right on a tablet. Once open select/click on Settings ;
2. Once Settings is selected, click/tap/ on Control Panel.

3. Once the Control Panel is open, click/select Network and Internet.
4. Once Network and Internet is open, click/select Network and Sharing Center .
5. Once Network and Sharing Center is open, click/select Set up a new connection or network .
6. Select/click Manually
connect
to
a
wireless
network
and then select/click the Next button:

7. Once on the Manual Configuration Screen set the Network name to eduroam, Security type to
WPA2-Enterprise and Encryption type to AES and then click the Next button:

8. Click/Select on Change connection settings;
9. Click/Select the Security tab:
10. Click/Select the from the Dropdown Choose a
network authentication methood: Microsoft
EAP-TTLS then select the Settings button next to
the Microsoft EAP-TTLS option:

11. Once the Protected EAP Properties window is open,
Uncheck/untick the option Verify the server’s
identity by validating the certificate then
select/click Select Authentication Methods: ->
then Choose Unencrypted (PAP) then hit the OK
option:
12. Select/Click on the Advanced
Settings button:
13. Check/tick Specify authentication mode: and select User
authentication from the dropdown box, then select/click OK;

14. Once in range of an eduroam wireless access point the device should automatically attempt to
connect to eduroam; and you should be prompted for your credentials.
Enter your RMIT Account details and append the @rmit.edu.au as show below for both
Student and Staff accounts.
Then select/click the OK button.
