    Lesson Objective(s): T.L.w. identify, define, and characterize the qualities and characteristicsof a good leader and a good citizen as well as be able to put together a resume.

    Introduce the Learning Activity:

    -The teacher will begin the class by showing a clip from the History channel on the historical

    background and importance of Memorial Day. After this clip the teacher will engage the class indiscussion with the discussion questions:

    y What did you see in the clip?y Why is Memorial Day important?y Who does Memorial Day honor?y Why are they important to the United States and its history?y What types of people were those honored?

    -The teacher then will write citizen, both, and leader on the white board. The class will then be

    asked to describe and list the characteristics and qualities of both a good leader, and a goodcitizen.

    Provide Information:

    -The teacher will hand each student a copy of John Woodens Pyramid of Success, anddescribe to the students who Wooden was and why is steps to success and lessons on leadership

    are important.

    -The teacher will ask students to copy the list from the board onto the back of this sheet.

    Provide Practice:

    -Students will be directed to the websites listed below to research a United States citizen theexemplifies the qualities and characteristics of a good citizen and leader:

    -The third link is an interactive quiz site that will help students research information on a person

    via an interactive online quiz.

    -The students then will be handed an assignment sheet that requires them to use Microsoft

    Publisher to produce a resume for their selected leader.

    -The teacher will provide feedback as the students describe and list good characteristics andqualities of a good citizen and a good leader on the white board.

    -The teacher will circulate and provide feedback as students research using the sites above theperson that they will be choosing to do their resume assignment on.

    -The teacher will stress the importance of these qualities in creating good citizens and good

    leaders in our participatory democracy that we live in.

    Review the Activity:-The teacher will bring the class back together and ask the students whom they chose to researchand why while highlighting the critical attributes that make that person a good leader or citizen.

    Method of Assessment:-Students will be graded on their resume assignment that they began in class a week from thatclass date.
