    Management Philosophy

In my classroom, I want to create an environment that is healthy for

learning. I will make sure to be positive towards students. Students need to

know that their teacher wont criticize them if they do something wrong. Tome, there is always a positive way to deal with any situation, even the most

frustrating situations. In addition, I want an organized classroom where

students know where everything is. Everything will have its own place, and

the students will know exactly where that place is. Also, I will make sure to

keep things organized for my sake. Furthermore, the most important thing

to me in the classroom is that every student feels as important as the next

student. This is why I will have a democratic classroom. A democratic

classroom means that the students will be making/voting on decisions in the

    classroom.

There are a few theorists who have the same views that I do. For

example, Rudolf Dreikurs believes that teachers should use more

encouragement in the classroom and less praise. This goes along with my

positivity towards students. If you are encouraging to students, this boosts

their self-esteem and confidence and also helps them to stay on task.

Praising students allows them to become dependent on hearing that praise.

In addition, Dreikurs also believes in logical consequences. So if a student

were to throw trash on the ground, a logical consequence would be to pick

up all of the trash in the classroom. Also, Dreikurs was a firm believer in ademocratic classroom. He basically believes that respect and student

inclusion are very important. Allowing students to vote on important class

decisions, teaching to every individual student and their needs, etc are

examples of this. Furthermore, I believe that every teacher should

demonstrate withitness as believed by Jacob Kounin. A teacher should be

able to juggle different situations and know how to handle them. Lastly, I

agree with two key foundations that Barbara Coloroso presented: kids are

worth it and I will not treat a child in a way I myself would not want to be

treated. No matter what, the kids are the most important and they need to

    know that.

I would implement the combination of these theories and my own in

several ways. For example, I would make sure to have class meetings with

my students at least once a week to talk about different situations and to

receive student input. Also, I would have the students create their own class

rules. With these rules, the students would also create logical consequences

that would result in the breaking of the rules. Also, I will monitor good

behavior and misbehavior while still instructing the class, which would be my

practice of withitness. All of these things encompassed together will allow

me to teach to the best of my ability and to help the students learn to the

    best of theirs.
