On Monday 27th March we locked the gates

at our old head office in Attercliffe, Sheffield

and looked back over a busy year here at

Universal Components. From the decision

to move at the end of 2014, to the design

and build agreement of the new premises

in November 2015, UC has not only moved

£5.8m worth of stock but also 135 employees

by combining two old sites into our New

Home in Barnsley. If you have ever moved

house you will know that any move comes

with its challenges and curve balls and we

have had a few along the way! But we had

a plan which in the main has been met,

we moved out on time of our old sites at

Provincial Park and Attercliffe on time and

achieved the goal by using our existing work

force, whilst also doing the day job. It has

been one of the biggest challenges to date

and one of the toughest years for UC and we

know a lot of us are glad it is nearly done!

The move has had various impacts within

the business both internally and externally

but now we are in one site the final stages

of the move are here. With more high bay

and small bin racking now operational and

being optimised for better picking efficiency,

service is improving day by day with clear

daylight being seen now at the end of a very

long tunnel. The hardest part of any move is

ensuring it is pretty seamless, but operating

over three sites was the most challenging

part, not to mention the physical demands

required of the team but UC continues to work

tirelessly to ensure we continue to do all we

can to improve our service daily.

Over the coming weeks there are number

of short term initiatives in place to further

improve our stock holding and flow through

the facility whilst the medium to long

term work also starts to review our end

to end processes in readiness for a WMS

implementation review. With the final

products put away at our Barnsley site, we

now enter April with a new year and new

focus to increase service to our customers. By

increasing our staff shift pattern and adding

a permanent night rota we can now do more

of the quality work around the clock whilst

still servicing the customer with the largest

and most diverse one stop range in the

commercial vehicle aftermarket.

UC would also like to thank all our customers

for their loyalty and growth since 2004 and

we look forward to more over the next 25

years together!

More importantly UC would like to thank all

our team for the work they have done over

the past 13 years and the work they continue

to do daily.
