    B. In this assignment, I was given a list of 15 students

scores on a number of assessments. I studied their

scores to then put them in a group based on their

score in the Letter Name Fluency (LNF) assessment.

    C. There were four different assessments that were

used that measure a number of literacy ideas for the

students in Miss Keetows class. Each assessment is

given individually to make sure that the student is not

distracted or nervous from other students around

them. Each assessment is important to every

students education, so there are averages that they

must reach at the end of the year. Every assessment

has a different average or norm.

The first assessment that the students took was

the Letter Name Fluency which measured how many

letters in the alphabet they could name in one

minute. Each student was to name off the letters as

they are placed in a random order on a normal size

piece of paper. For the students to be average at this

assessment they would have to have a score of 45.

That 45 measures how many letters they could name

correctly in one minute. To be above average, the

students have to name between 56 and 65 letters in

a minute. For the students to get a below average

score they would name just between 33 and 23

    letters in a minute.

The second assessment that the students had to

go through was the Letter Sound Fluency (LSF) where

the students had to sound out the sounds of letters

that they see on a paper. The students have a

minute to sound out these words with the correct

sounding to see where they stand. To be average

with this assessment the students need to sound out

at least 30 letters in a minute. To be above average

with this assessment the students need to get

between 39 and 49 words in a minute. If the students

    4/10

seem to be struggling, or below average; they would

have gotten just 12 to 20 words in a minute.

The third assessment that was given to the

students is called the Phoneme Segmentation

Fluency (PSF) which measured if students could read

a word by sounding out each of the letters sounds in

the word. The students have a minute to at least get

38 sounds in a minute. For the students to need more

practice or be below average, they have to get

between 10 and 26 sounds in a minute. If the students

are succeeding at the assessment already or be

above average, they need to get at least 49 to 58

    sounds in a minute.

The last assessment that was given to the

students was the Nonsense Word Fluency which has

the students says the words that they read in front of

them even if they arent real words in a minute. This

assessment is used just to make sure the students are

able to sound out any type of word even if the word

    5/10

is real or not. In a minute, the students need to get at

least 30 words right to be average. For the students to

be above average with the assessment, they need to

get between 44 and 63 words. The students that

need a little more help since they are below average

with the topic is between 9 and 19 words.

Each assessment is important to each student since it

shows what they need to work harder on during the

year. With each assessment it the job of the teacher

to put their students in groups based on their scores

    with these assessments.

    D. With dealing with Miss Keetows class there are a

total of 15 students. There are 8 girls and 7 boys with

most of the students falling into the same category

with each assessment. For instance, in every

assessment Paige Turner fell well below average in all

her scores. It seemed as though most of the students

were consistent in each assessment. It was easy to

see what student knew what in terms of letting

    naming and letter sound fluency.

After going through all the test results and seeing

where students fell in each assessment, it made my

decision easier when deciding what student

belonged in each group. The test results showed me

how there was a clear division with all the students

when it came to each assessment. I could tell which

students was average, above average, and below

average. This is why these assessments are so

    important to each students education.

    E. After looking at all my data, I decided that I would

use the Letter Naming Fluency assessment to put my

students in their instructional groups. There was one

key reason as to why I used this assessment, and it

was because these students were so spread out

when it came to the results of this assessment. I first

noticed that there were three students in the 90

percentile, four students in the 75 percentile, three

    7/10

students at an average rate, and three more

students at a below average standing.

After seeing that there was going to be a decent

amount of students in each group, I decided to only

make four groups instead of five. I felt this way

because I didnt want any group to be too small or

too big. I want to make sure that every student in the

group is going to be on the same level as they are

learning all the different information. I see the

students as learning from each other as they are

    learning from me.

The first group I decided to make is going to be

the well above average group which is going to

have Betty Cann, Milo Minute, and Harrison Fire since

they all were in the 90th percentile when it came to

this assessment. The second group is going to be the

above average group with Candi Barr, Barbie Dahl,

Anna Mull, Al Gee, and Rusty Nails with their scores

being in the 75th percentile after their minute

assessment. The third group is going to be the

average students with their scored being in the 50th

percentile after their assessment. I decided to put

Rick OShae, Robin Banks, Ann Chovie, and Neil

Down in this instructional group together. The final

group that I put together is the students that need

the most help since they are all below average.

These students are Scott Free, Ella Mentry, and Paige

Turner in this group together since their scores in the

assessment was a lot lower than the other students.

I feel like every student in each group can learn

a lot from the information but also from the people in

their group. I feel like their scores in each assessment

were consistent so the groups show that. I wanted to

make sure that every student in the group would feel

comfortable with the people that are around them,

so I wanted to make sure that an above average

person was with the classmates that also understood

the same information. I feel like having four groups

    9/10

instead of four is a better idea since I wouldnt want

to have any student be in a group by themselves,

because they wouldnt learn as much. All I want is for

each student to succeed at the end of the year, and

have them all grow when it comes to each

    assessment.

    F. When it comes to additional information, its hard

for me to make me think about what else would help

me when it comes to working with the students. What

I think about is how long it would take each student

to complete an assignment. Even if the students are

in the group that is above average, does it take them

the same amount of time to get the information? I

also want to make sure that none of my students

have a learning disability or is a GATE type pf

student, because then I need to see of a new way of

teaching them, or even see if they need to be in my

    classroom.

    G. When I first started the assessment analysis, it was

hard to figure out where I was going to start since

there was so much information in front of me. I also

felt like I wasnt putting my students in the right

instructional group since I am a new teacher and all I

do is second guess what I think and feel. After looking

at all the information and putting these students in

their groups, I feel like in the end they will all succeed

by the end of the year. I feel like they all are going to

work with people that can relate to them and help

one another learn the information I am teaching. Im

still having trouble with explaining things in depth

though, so hopefully I can get across what Im

thinking and feeling easier before I do this for my own

    class.
