Why should the DofE embrace technology?

What is eDofE?

• Manages young people doing their DofE

• Participants can record a range of evidence

• Manage and monitor progress

• Improves communication

• Improves understanding of all levels of the DofE

Data protection

• eDofE complies with current data protection legislation

• The DofE’s online privacy policy has been updated to include the data we collect and use through eDofE

• Data is secure and regularly backed up – we will not lose it

Safeguarding

• A wide range of safeguarding practices have been built into the system.

• These are based on good practice guidance produced by the Home Office Task Force on child protection on the internet 2008.

• These include:– Data security and strict controls on data

and messaging– Safeguarding and child protection

policies and procedures– Advice during registration on internet

safety and safeguarding issues including ways to report them.

• Purchase participation places from ASL

• Monitor participation through eDofE• On notification of completion approve

presentation.

Centre Co-ordinator Role

• Log on using the username and password supplied by their OA.

• Create and manage groups – e.g. centre - Oak House School

- groups- Bronze group 1, Bronze group 2, Silver group 1

• Allocate a Leader to each group• Enrol participants• Check and approve / withdraw

participants’ evidence• Verify completion of specific sections

• No direct access to eDofE• Provide evidence for participants to upload

– Photographs and images– Video– Audio– Text (i.e. a written report from the Keeping

Setting up a Participant

• Participant fills out enrolment form • Participant pays participation fee• OA sends Welcome Pack• OA / Leader sets up eDofE account• System / Leader sends participant

username and password• Participant enters basic details

Backdating

• Usual backdating rules apply (1 section for 3 months)

• Start date for a DofE programme in the system is the date that the participants application form is signed by the participant.

• To help with transition, until March 2010, all sections can be back dated to September 2009.

Types of Evidence

• Young people can upload the following:– Text (i.e. their own diary)– Photographs and images– Anything they can scan in and save as a

PDF (Certificates, Assessor comments etc)– Video– Audio (coming soon)

• The Leader is automatically alerted when new evidence is added – this is done within the system

• All evidence requires Leader approval• It is important that Leaders go in and check for

evidence regularly
