Redefinition Records is honored to release Boston legend Edo. G’s latest

project. This isn’t the first rodeo for either party as both entities have

been involved in the making of hundreds of records respectively, but it is

nonetheless a very special occasion. What’s so important? The artist is

humble, yet boastfully sums the answer with the music; Edo. G Presents

DJ Premier Vs Pete Rock. Having collaborated with both iconic producers

on numerous songs over the years, this EP celebrates some of Edo’s

personal favorites from their legendary sessions, packaging key tracks

as a commemorative 4 x 7” set. At four tracks deep plus the instrumentals

(8 tracks total), it was difficult to pick the main single as any one of these

cuts can stand tall on it’s own. Edo. G chose to leave it up to the masses

and nothing’s more hip-hop than friendly competition hence the title Edo.

G Presents DJ Premier Vs Pete Rock. Designed by celebrated illustrator

artist Joseph Buckingham (widely celebrated for creating the iconic De

La Soul Is Dead cover), the vintage boxing poster art direction brings

the theme home and makes a statement. There are no less than 4 7”

singles packaged in an 8 panel gatefold jacket, rich in colors, detail and

with a proper tribute to each of the three featured artists. Need we say

more? To paraphrase it, this is some of Edo.G’s best work produced

entirely by DJ Premier and Pete Rock. Dare to say it’s not some of the

finest hip-hop of its time. For those around the world blessed to catch the

two producers go head to head on their string of international tours, this

project is monumental as it was inspired by their sportsmanlike rivalry

during their DJ performances. It is also is appealing to Edo. G fans as all

tracks featured on this EP are long out of print and available for the first

time ever on 45 with their exclusive instrumentals. This will be a classic

As promised, Damu the Fudgemunk and Flex Mathews’ full length album is here following their recent Burners EP entitled, Dreams & Vibrations. The duo has assembled an ode to their love of hip-hop after a longtime friendship of over 15 years.

Jeremiah Jae (aka Black Daffi) is an experimental hip-hop artist born

and raised on the south side of Chicago. He is a visual artist, producer,

emcee and founding member of Black Jungle Squad, a music collective

consisting of close friends and family. Early works by Jae dating back to

2007, display his unique style and approach to crafting his own version

of “hip-hop”. The genre is one of many foundations the artist uses to

communicate his range of styles as shown on previous self-released

albums, compilations and collaborations (Holy Smoke, Oliver The 2nd,

L’Orange, CohenBeats, PBDY), as well as praiseworthy offerings on

Brainfeeder and Warp Records.

With his newest solo album DAFFI, Jae expands on his production and

speaks in the persona of his alter ego to express a darker side. The

16-track self-produced album was recorded in both Chicago and his

Los Angeles home studio The Black Light. Contributions by fellow Black

Jungle Squad brethren Oliver The 2nd (“Backpacks”), The Koreatown

Oddity (“Figure Skating”), Busdriver (“In Da Zone”), Karenbe (“All Me”),

and his legendary band leader and musician father Robert Irving III

(“Nefertiti”) help carry the album to exalted heights and somber lows. It is

with much merit for anyone to experience such a wide range of emotions,

yet return to an even heightened state of artistry with such artistic beauty

N8NOFACE was the vocalist for underground synth-punk legends

Crimekillz. He is the younger brother of Tucson-bred modern boogie

Puerto Rican Space Program, a side project of DJ/producer Lumin, is

a multi-faceted analog synth fueled cosmic escape from harsh realities

of the day-to-day in one of the toughest neighborhoods in Miami, FL.

Instead of a glamorization of neighborhood shootouts, drug deals, and

dirty money, the P R S P LP acknowledges the treacherous nature of the

street while offering perspective, hope, and liberation through space age

influenced compositions.

The seed for Puerto Rican Space Program began to germinate in early

2010 during a period of exploration into his Puerto Rican ancestry

coinciding with experimentation in the studio using analog equipment,

ethnic hand percussion, and Sun Ra inspired concepts. Two P.R.S.P.

remix releases prompted creation of an album’s worth of material. Two

years of producing, pruning, and perfecting (including studio sessions

with legendary DJ/producer King Britt), and the P R S P LP was complete.

The P R S P LP aimed to fuse native/tribal rhythms with electro-acoustic

instruments, synthesizers and effects - blending the ancient with the

futuristic, and seasoning with Afro-Latin and spiritual jazz sensibilities.

The balance of vocals and instrumentals provides familiarity, but

introduces much more conceptually than the average beat tape.

Poolside began as a recording project in a converted Los Angeles

backyard pool house in early 2011, producing sunny tracks of subaquatic

indie dance music in this makeshift recording studio. Surfacing first in the

form of a YouTube video for the catchy track “Do You Believe?” Poolside

were soon gaining local and national attention, with DJs like by James

Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, techno legend Derrick May, and disco don

Todd Terje spinning these tracks at events and a growing online following.

Throughout 2011 Poolside continued making waves with a sound called

“daytime disco” through tracks like a cover of Neil Young’s “Harvest

Moon” as well as original tunes. In 2012 Poolside worked on a remix for

longtime disco punks The Rapture and held fans over with a new single

and video for a song called “Slow Down” as they prepared to release their

debut album. That album, Pacific Standard Time, was released in July of

2012 on their own Day & Night label.

After the album’s release, remixes for artists like Matthew Dear, Little

Dragon and Fool’s Gold soon followed, rehearsing and touring with a

live band, and doing DJ sets around the world. Eventually, as thoughts

turned to a second album, Poolside went on ice for a year; to regroup.

Beginning to work in earnest on another album Fall of 2016. While still

revolving around the sunny, laid-back disco sound of PST, additions of

uptempo dance songs and more guitars, and generally fleshed out the

arrangements with more instruments and sounds.

Captain Planet is back on Bastard Jazz with the second volume of his

Mystery Trip series. Digging deep into his record collection housed in

a Flatbush storage unit, the Captain has pulled out a hefty selection of

joints from all over the world and has deftly chopped, sliced, skewed,

and reworked them into a full mixtape full of his exclusive edits, and

an ultra limited run of white label, hand stamped 12”s with the choicest

dancefloor cuts from the tape.

Things kick off with “Oluku”, a bubblin’ Nigerian dubby disco jam with

Da Buze Bruvaz have created a modern Blaxploitation epic in hip-hop
