It was graced by the presence of Director, Mr. R. Aggarwal, Principal, Ms. A. Aggarwal, disnguished guests and parents. The show started with dance performances on Do-Re-Mi, Spoonful of Sugar, So Long Farewell, from the musicals Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music. Tasher Desh – a country of cards, one of Rabindranath Tagore's operas, which depicted the irony in the rigidity of the caste system aer Brish rule, was performed in the form of dance drama. The ballets 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'Tarzan' also grabbed the audience's aenon. The lile children performed various acrobacs, gymnascs, hoopla and sck dancingas circus performers. The story of Abhimanyu from the Mahabharata was also presented in the form of dance drama. The funcon culminated with a ‘Tribute to Parents’, which was greatly appreciated. 1 Young enthusiasts of Mary Poppins. ‘Just when the caterpillar thought her life was over, she began to fly'. New beginnings are of a similar kind. They are always looked forward to with great excitement and cheer. Be it the start of a new session, a new instuon or a new job, every beginning has a different meaning for all of us, bringing with it change. For some of us, these beginnings are a reminder of what has been le behind, while for others it's an opportunity to reinvent themselves. A new session is similar as students look forward to new classes, acvies and strive to put their best foot forward. Some might feel sad about leaving something special behind, some anxious about a new start while some of us might be excited about achieving something wonderful. Of course, it could be all of these things too. Aer all, however crooked, raw, beauful, excing and fresh a new beginning may be, it does make a big difference in our lives. Volume- XIX No. 3

The Annual Func�on of the Primary Wing, 'Jazbaa – The Passion Within', was held on 19 February, 2017. It was graced by the presence of Director, Mr. R. Aggarwal, Principal, Ms. A. Aggarwal, dis�nguished guests and parents. The show started with dance performances on Do-Re-Mi, Spoonful of Sugar, So Long Farewell, from the musicals Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music. Tasher Desh – a country of cards, one of Rabindranath Tagore's operas, which depicted the irony in the rigidity of the caste system a�er Bri�sh rule, was performed in the form of dance drama. The ballets 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'Tarzan' also grabbed the audience's a�en�on. The li�le children performed various acroba�cs, gymnas�cs, hoopla and s�ck dancingas circus performers. The story of Abhimanyu from the Mahabharata was also presented in the form of dance drama. The func�on culminated with a ‘Tribute to Parents’, which was greatly appreciated.

Be it the start of a new session, a new ins�tu�on or a new job, every beginning has a different meaning for all of us, bringing with it change. For some of us, these beginnings are a reminder of what has been le� behind, while for others it's an opportunity to reinvent themselves. A new session is similar as students look forward to new classes, ac�vi�es and strive to put their best foot forward. Some might feel sad about leaving something special behind, some anxious about a new start while some of us might be excited about achieving something wonderful. RHYTHM AND SOUL

A Talent Hunt contest - 'Let Them Shine' was held for Class I on 9 December, 2016. The par�cipants exhibited their talent in singing, dancing, story-telling, playing musical instruments and so on. The program began with the melodious songs sung by the choir of Class II . The par�cipants enthralled the audience with their scin�lla�ng performances. At the end, the winners were given prizes and all the par�cipants received gi� hampers.

The winners were : I prize- Karandeep Singh (I A), II Prize - Kaashvi Chawla (I D), III Prize- Raghvi Sharma (I C), IV Prize - Chaitanya Sareen (I C), V Prize – Lavanya Suklani(I D) and Special Prizes were won by Avni Chopra(IA), Tanishka Manoj(I A), Rudhr Arora(I B), Aanika Sharma(IC) and Angel Arora(I C).

TALENT HUNT

ROCK ONThe primary wing of our school presented a grand music festival 'ROCK ON' on 31 January, 2017. Nearly 140 students of Classes I to V participated in it. There were various segments like 'Time to Groove', 'Going Solo', ' Girls vs Boys' and 'Remix' which were highly appreciated by the guests and stole everyone's heart. The show rocked indeed.

INTERNATIONAL FELICITATION

AWARDS & RECOGNITIONSIt was a moment of pride as our school received Asia's Greatest Brand Awards 2016 in Singapore on the 24th of January 2017. The award was given in recogni�on of our work in the field of educa�on. The par�cipa�ng schools were from various Asian countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Srilanka, India and many more. It gives us immense pleasure to share this award with our students and parents, who are equal stakeholders in making St. Mark's a brand recognized globally in the field of educa�on. The organizers, United Research Services, also awarded our Director, Mr. Rahul Aggarwal, for his contribu�on. A special moment indeed!

We received the Excellence Award at the School Leadership Summit.

We have also been honoured with School Excellence Award at the 4th Na�onal Conference organised by Brainfeed Magazine. Brainfeed is one of the best online educa�onal magazines in India for Children, Teachers and Parents. The award was presented to us by Mr. Premchand Palety, the founder and Chief Execu�ve of C fore, a mul�disciplinary research organiza�on established in year 2000. We also won the Best Community and Collabora�on School Award at the 4th Na�onal Conference on Higher Educa�on held at Le Meridien on the 4th of February 2017.

Indian Associa�on for the Blind has awarded our school with Silver Zone Award for our commitment and contribu�on towards the empowerment of visually challenged people. We are indeed humbled by this honour !

Our senior Vice Principal , Ms. V. Wahi ,received the award on behalf of the school, as we are ranked number 2 in West Delhi by the Digital Magazine.

Our school was felicitated with 'World Girl Child Educa�on and Empowerment Award' on the occasion of Interna�onal Women's Day at India Interna�onal Centre on 8 March, 2017. The event was graced by eminent dignitaries like High Commissioners of Botswana, Zambia and Nigeria as well as Principals of Gargi College, Daulat Ram College, Janki Devi and Kalindi College.

GLOBAL DIMENSIONS

TECHNOLOGY EXCHANGE PROGRAM WITH SWEDEN

As part of the ongoing St. Mark's – Ebba Pe�erssons Technology Exchange Programme, 8 student delegates accompanied by two teacher incharges, Ms. Erica Aberg and Mr. Stefan from Ebba Pe�erssons, Sweden visited our school from 26 November to 6 December, 2016. the delega�on visited all places of interest like Qutub Minar, Lotus temple, Bangla Sahib Gurudwara, Dilli Haat and Janpath. At the school, the delegates par�cipated in cookery and art workshops to learn about Indian cuisine and art. The theme of the exchange being technology, the students performed some scien�fic experiments in the school apart from visi�ng the Na�onal Science Centre wherein they learnt to make speakers out of waste. One of the highlights of the program was a visit to AIMIL, a mul�func�onal, mul� service providing company in the high-tech instrument industry. The official event – 'Forever Friends' was graced by Mr. Gautam Bha�acharya, the Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Sweden as the Special Guest of Honour. Ms. A. Aggarwal, Principal, remarked - "St. Mark's School and Ebba Pe�erssons will be Forever Friends ; a�er all, it is now eleven years of our collabora�on."

RUSSIA AND INDIA - A CHERISHABLE BONDA nine member student delega�on led by teacher incharge, Ms. Valen�na Vasilkova from Zhukovsky English School

No.3,Moscow visited our school from 9 December to 16 December 2016.The Russian students were hosted by their Indian buddies who helped them learn about Indian lifestyle, tradi�ons and the family structure. The Russian students also a�ended classes and par�cipated in an interes�ng Art of Living workshop. Dance and cookery workshops were also conducted for the Russian delega�on. The students enjoyed cooking Indian food and prac�sing the Pranayam. A day long Delhi sightseeing was organised for the delega�on wherein the members visited AkshardhamTemple ,Qutub Minar, Lotus Temple, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib,. Dilli Haat and Connaught Place. On the last day of the visit, a special event was organised wherein a collabora�ve book – 'A Tale of Two Countries', wri�en by the students of our school and Zhukovsky English School No. 3 was released by Mr. Sergey Karmalito , Senior Counsellor , Embassy of Russian Federa�on.

As part of Christmas celebra�ons, a grand event 'Saviour and the Star' was presented by the students of Class V on 19 December, 2016. The cultural show began with the choir that enthralled the audience with Christmas carols followed by an enactment and a Na�vity Dance which depicted the birth of The Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. This was followed by a variety of dances on Gospel songs such as – 'O God you're my God', 'Mary, did you Know', bringing out the Christmas fervour. The Principal, Ms. A. Aggarwal applauded the par�cipants and conveyed her good wishes for the Christmas and New Year.

Basant Panchami was celebrated with great fervour on 1 February, 2017. Goddess Saraswa� – the Goddess of Knowledge, Music, Art and Wisdom was worshipped and students of classes I and II were a part of the rituals. The children dressed up in fes�ve yellow and enjoyed the fes�vi�es thoroughly. They par�cipated in an Art Compe��on on this occasion. The topic for the compe��on was 'Spring Season'. The students enjoyed drawing, colouring, as well as the sunshine and the clear skies of the spring season.

Winners of Art Competition

A seven member student delega�on along with two teachers, Ms. Chau Pham and Ms. Giang, from Experimental Secondary School, Hanoi visited our school from 14 to 21 January 2017. The Vietnamese students, hosted by Indian students, got an opportunity to understand Indian tradi�ons, culture and lifestyle. They explored the history of India, especially Delhi, by visi�ng the famous historical monuments such as Qutub Minar, India Gate, Lotus Temple, Bangla Sahib, etc. Besides a day long trip to Agra and Pratapgarh farms, an art workshop to learn Indian Art forms was also organized. The highlight was a cookery workshop wherein the Indian students taught Indian cuisine while the Vietnamese students taught their cuisine. A beau�ful cultural programme 'India Vietnam - All Weather Friends' was organized on 20 January, 2017, consis�ng of tradi�onal Indian and Vietnamese dances as well as some foot tapping songs. Mr. Tran Quang Tuyen, Minister, Deputy Chief of Mission and the guest of honour, released a special desk calendar designed by the students of both the schools. The desk calendar is a window to the various aspects of the two countries such as tradi�ons, cuisine, art, literature, places to name a few.

The 68th Republic Day was celebrated in all its solemnity and grandeur by the students of classes VI to VIII of our school. The students pledged to uphold the honour, integrity, diversity and uniqueness that is 'India'. The Principal, Ms. A. Aggarwal shared her views and welcomed the dis�nguished guests, invitees and parents. She asked all the students to be responsible so that they can perform their role as good ci�zens. The school auditorium reverberated with patrio�c fervour and enthusiasm. The students brought the stage alive with their passion and love for the motherland. The challenges faced by modern India such as Corrup�on, Terrorism, Communalism, Pollu�on and Atroci�es on Women were depicted through the medium of song and dance. An inspiring skit, a choir with foot tapping numbers and beau�ful dances were the highlights of the day. The mesmerizing performances enthralled everyone.

SERVICE BEFORE SELF

UMANG - CELEBRATION OF LIFEOur school celebrated Christmas in its true spirit as it organized

Umang - Celebra�on of life, an event for the lesser privileged children of the society. Around 155 children from near and far par�cipated in a range of ac�vi�es like medita�on, music, races and art. They were very efficiently supported and guided by the organising commi�ee consis�ng of students from classes IX and X of our school. Umang was also supported by the parents of Adi� Dabas(II D), Avi Makan(II D), Kriday Sharma (II B), Gurbani Kaur (II B), Jaskeerat Singh (II A) and Atoot Bandhan -The Old Students' Associa�on of our school. The Principal, Ms. A. Aggarwal, mo�vated the children with her words and also gave away the prizes to the winners of the races as well as art compe��on.Each child was also given a gi� pack for Christmas.

SOS- BECAUSE WE CARESharing and caring is an integral part of the ethos of our school. The

SMS family helps the orphan and abandoned children through SOS. This year also the SMS family contributed Rs. 4,14,000 to SOS on 19 February, 2017. The cheque was collected by Ms. Shilpa Bisht, Senior Manager, Individual Partnerships Pan India (SOS Children's Villages of India) , who highlighted that our school has been the top collector amongst schools all over India from the past many years.The top student collectors for SOS were I – Vedansh Chugh – VI D (Rs. 6,000/-), II - Avni Chopra – I A (Rs. 5,500/-), III - Jaskirat Singh – II A, Hriday Chatrath – III F and Aayush Sharma – IX A (Rs. 5,000/-), IV– Gurleen Kaur – I D, Arnav Gupta - IV G and Ri�k Chugh - II A (Rs. 4,000/-) and V – Akshat Kapoor – III D (Rs. 3,801).The top collector class was I A which contributed Rs. 14,400/-

A VISIT TO THE GURUKULStudents of Classes VIII to XI a�ended an interac�ve session with Mr.

Ravi Kalra (Founder President Earth Saviours Founda�on and The Gurukul) on 26 December, 2016. It was an emo�onal session wherein Mr. Kalra shared numerous painful anecdotes about abandoned people many of whom were le� at Gurukul gates by their family members itself. It was a lesson in humanity and a soul searching experience for each one of us. Our school contributed woollens and blankets for the benefit of inmates of Gurukul and also pledged to do more in the near future.

Following the interac�on, 23 students of classes VIII and IX alongwith teachers Ms. S. Malik, Ms. M. Parashar, Mr. D. Kharola and Ms. Rooma visited Gurukul, on 31 December, 2016 and 20 students of Class X visited Earth Saviours Founda�on on 13 January,2017. The students and the teachers spent quality �me with the elderly and helped in the community kitchen as well as in the distribu�on of breakfast. They also par�cipated in their Lohri celebra�ons and Rangoli making. Interac�on with the elderly le� many of the students teary – eyed and they pledged to visit the NGO again. A beau�ful a�ernoon came to an end with the students' rendi�on of Hum Honge Kamyaab. The students also handed over dry ra�ons like a�a, sugar, tea leaves, pulses, packets of adult diapers, quilts and cash contribu�on.

GOONJ- AN INITIATIVE TO SPREAD WARMTHMore than 20 sacks of woollen clothing including jackets, sweaters, caps, scarves and suits were donated by the students of our school on 13 December, 2016 to Goonj: an NGO working for underprivileged people. This ini�a�ve of the students was an a�empt to help our poor brethren to combat the onset of winters with the help of woollen clothing.

SMS CHRONICLES

A 'Na�onal Talent Olympiad' was organized by Expressions India, a CBSE empanelled agency for students with special needs on 14 and 15 February, 2017 in Apeejay School, Sheikh Sarai, New Delhi. Ms. K. Madan (Guidance Counsellor), Ms. S. Gupta and Ms. T. Mahajan (Special Educators) of our school alongwith 8 students of Classes IV and V took part in the event that comprised of mul�ple ac�vi�es categorized in 4 groups i.e., Sports and Games, fine arts, performing arts / talent show and literary ac�vi�es. Bhawik Sachdeva and Anshdeep Singh of Class IV G won the I Prize and III Prize, respec�vely in Obstacle race.

'Budding Ar�sts' the Annual Inter School Pain�ng Compe��on was organised in our school on 3 February, 2017 in which students of classes V to XI par�cipated. 251 students from 15 schools par�cipated and used various mediums like Acrylic, Oil Pastels, Charcoal and Water colours to display their imagina�on. The compe��on was judged by Art Experts, Mr. Girish Sharma and Mr. Himanshu.The students of our school who won prizes were - I Prize – Madhav (VG); II Prize- Gurpreet Kaur Arora (V D), Ridhima Choudhary (VI B), Samiksha (VIII C), Ishika (IX G), III Prize – Sanah Malik (IX G), Varun Sethi(X A) and Special Prizes were won by Shreya (VII A) and Kamalpreet (IX G).

Our school organized Code Week, 'Hour of Code' from 5 to 11 December, 2016 with Code.org which is dedicated to the vision that every student in every school should have the opportunity to learn how to code. This is the third year in a row that our school has organized Hour of Code event, which is a global movement reaching to millions of students in 180+ countries. Every student was provided with their secret code to log in into their accounts. These ac�vi�es were conducted for Classes I to X, where each and every student enthusias�cally performed the ac�vity allocated to them.

SMS CHRONICLES

Cita�on Ceremony for Class XII was held on 27 and 28 January, 2017. Parents were invited to this solemn occasion which marked the comple�on of schooling for their wards. It was a proud moment for the parents as their wards received a cita�on, a memento and blessings from Principal Ms. A. Aggarwal and Vice Principal Ms. V. Wahi. Students and parents shared their experiences about the wonderful journey of their wards in the school. Mr. Girish Sharma, father of Shreya Sharma of XII B ,presented a beau�ful pain�ng to our Principal, Ms. A. Aggarwal. It was a remarkable event to recognize the talent of the students and encourage them to do well in future.

“SO LONG…………FAREWELL”It was that �me of the year when our school bids adieu to yet another batch of the outgoing Class XII students. The farewell was held on 30 January, 2017. It was organised in the school ground, which wore a fes�ve look. The young adults started arriving at 11 a.m, girls looking charming in sarees and boys looking handsome in formal suits. The programme was chaired by Chairman Mr. T.P. Aggarwal and Principal Ms. A. Aggarwal. Ms. A. Aggarwal mo�vated and inspired the students in her unique way, followed by the experiences of 12 years, shared by a few students. There were some fun games in which the students par�cipated and captured their last moments in school in their cameras to cherish in the �mes to come.

The Old Students' Associa�on – 'Atoot Bandhan' of our school organised a 'Talent–Cum– Fashion Show' on 10 February, 2017. While Mehak Malhotra and Akshit Gogia mesmerized the audience with their melodious songs, Sanjana Choudhary and Shivangi Arora touched everyone's heart with their poetry rendi�on. Gantavya V. Punj stole everyone's heart with his 'Shayari' and then there were enthralling western dance performances by Suasha Girdhar, Sanyam Jain and Namrata Sharma and a 'Bhangra' performance by Robin Singh. Shivraj and Garv Malik �ckled the funny bone with their stand – up – comedy acts, full of wit and humour. A mono – ac�ng by Abhishek Lakra was applauded by one and all. Last but not the least the 'Fashion Show' le� everyone awestruck. The costumes were designed by Jigyasa Jolly under her brand name – Modo Caldo. The complete programme was covered by Amardeep Singh's professional photography. Dev Soni and Hardik Tara kept the audience in fits of laughter with their stupendous anchoring. It was indeed a rocking success.

CAMPUS THEATRESocial Issues need consciousness not ignorance! Atelier Campus Theatre, an annual fes�val, presented 3 such plays in our school. The plays aimed to sensi�ze the young minds towards their role in crea�ng a be�er society. The plays presented were 'Maila Kuchaila' by Janki Devi Memorial College, 'Badhazmee' by Kamla Nehru College and 'Machine' by College of Voca�onal Studies. It was a good way to voice one's thoughts through this medium.

It was an evening spent well with one of the finest actors of theatre on 10 December, 2016 as students of our school got a chance to interact with Mr. Tom Alter. In a program organized by Ratna Sagar Pvt. Ltd., our students were invited to perform Oscar Wilde's play, 'Lady Windermere's Fan' and were highly appreciated by the guest of honour, Mr. Tom Alter, as well as by the audience that comprised of principals and teachers from various schools of Delhi. The actor took a trip down the memory lane as he talked of his days as a teacher and then as an actor. His knowledge of literature and love for poetry was evident in his interac�on with the audience who couldn't seem to get enough of him.

Keeping with the tradi�on, our school held a “Book Week” on 20 December, 2016 to enhance literary skills and to inculcate good reading habits in students. Class I had a story telling session with the well-known author, Ms. Monisha Gupta. Classes II to V had compe��ons such as 'Talk about a fairy tale character', 'Story Narra�on', 'Colour a story book character ', 'Fun with words' and 'Make a book cover '. Class VI spoke about their favourite books and authors' while Class VII went on a literary 'Treasure Hunt'. Some students of Class VIII had a workshop with Mr. Ajit Narayan, a well known cartoonist, followed by the students 'Making a Comic Strip'. Another group of Class VIII students par�cipated in 'Enact a Proverb'. There was a 'Book Review' for Class IX and Class X students retold short stories of famous authors. Class XI students par�cipated in a Quiz on Shakespeare. Renowned author, poet and translator, Ms. Anupa Lal interacted with the 'Book Club' members. The week long full of fun and learning ended with the prize distribu�on.

The students recited thought provoking poems where they spoke about world peace, inter-personal peace and most importantly inner peace.The topic for Class V was 'Dreams'. The students recited poems teaching us to dare to dream, believe in them and to strive to accomplish those dreams.

VISIT TO TRAFFIC TRAINING PARKStudents of Class I were taken to the Traffic Training Park in Punjabi Bagh on 14 March, 2017. They were shown the model of a helicopter and an aircra� kept there. The children were explained the road signs and traffic rules followed by a lunch in the lawn. It was a good learning experience for the children as they learnt the importance of road safety.

NATIONAL APTITUDE CHALLENGE 2016-2017The final round of 'Na�onal Ap�tude Challenge' 2016-2017 organized by The Times of India Group was held on 12 February, 2017. Riddhirup Bera (X C) and Kanishk Kishore (VII A) were the school winners. They were awarded with a Cer�ficate of Excellence and a tablet.

INTER HOUSE MATHS QUIZ (CLASS VIII)An Inter House Mathema�cs Quiz was held in our school on 3 February, 2017 for Class VIII. The quiz presented to the students using the smart board consisted of six rounds. Although all rounds were keenly contested, buzzer round and hands on took the lime light. The teachers conduc�ng the quiz also enjoyed the 'Math-hour'. It was a great learning experience for the students.

ALL INDIA QUIZStudents of Classes V to X of our school par�cipated in the Times of India and NIE All India School Quiz on Championship Quo�ent, YCQ 2016, which was conducted on 29 November, 2016. The children were tested on their Intelligence Quo�ent, Emo�onal Quo�ent, Crea�ve Quo�ent and Fitness Quo�ent.

WORLD COACHES INTRODUCTORY LEVEL COURSERoyal Netherlands Football Associa�on (KNVB) organised World Coaches Introductory Level Course for 24 selected football coaches from 26 November - 1 December,2016 in JawaharLal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi, which was a�ended by Mr. D. Kharola, P.E.T. of our school. The programme was led by World Coaches like football legends, Mr. Johan Neeskens and Mr. Bert Zuurman. One of the biggest players/coaches of all �me from the Netherlands, Mr. Frank Rijkaard also shared his experience as a Coach and player. On 1st December, 2016, Sports Minister of India, Mr. Vijay Goyal, Mr. Bowlender(Hockey Legend)and Mr. Frank Rijkaard inaugurated the new ar�ficial grass pitch.

The birth of Mahatma Gandhi marked a revolu�on in the world history – and a visit to 'Pravasi Bhara�ya Kendra' or 'The Digital Gandhi Museum' by the students of IX, X and XI on 13 and 14 January, 2017, proved to be helpful in augmen�ng their knowledge about this revolu�onary man, his ideas and contribu�ons in achieving Indian Independence. The techno savvy way of represen�ng Gandhian ideas and work intrigued the students a lot.

INTERACTION WITH HIS HOLINESS THE DALAI LAMA

Eleven students of Class IX along with teacher Ms. S. Malik of our school a�ended an interac�ve session with His Holiness, The Dalai Lama on 6 February, 2017 at Convent of Jesus and Mary School organized under the aegis of I�haas Society. The session started by Shri Vilas Nayak pain�ng a masterpiece of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and His Holiness, The Dalai Lama le� the audience spellbound as he addressed the gathering. He stressed that every religion carried message of love and forgiveness. He talked about constant anger, caste system, corrup�on, fear and insecurity. He also touched upon interna�onal conflict zones and the misery caused by violence in Syria and Yemen and emphasized that peace can only be a�ained by tolerance and understanding.

88TH BIRTHDAY COMMEMORATION OF MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.

The India Interna�onal Centre commemorated the famous American bap�st minister, Mar�n Luther King Jr. on 17 January 2017 to make students of various schools aware of the revolu�on he brought about in the world. This social ac�vist led the Civil Rights Movement and brought about a change in the condi�ons of the blacks in USA. The US Ambassador, H.E. Mr. Richard Verma, communicated with students of various schools on this occasion. 7 students of Class XI who a�ended this event interacted with the ambassador and also performed various songs and presented the famous speech by Mar�n Luther King Jr - "I have a dream". King's last speech of his life- given by him just before the day he was assassinated- was also shown to the students.

Our school won the Overall Champions Trophy in Games and Sports, Overall Champions Trophy in Athle�cs and Best Athlete Trophy was won by Vivek Sehrawat (XI A) at the Zonal Level (Zone XVII) for our excellent performance in every game and sport. Our school also won 18 trophies in different major games and sports. The prize distribu�on ceremony was held on 31 January, 2017 at GBSSS, J.J. Colony, Nangloi. The prize distribu�on ceremony was a�ended by dignitaries such as Ms. Renu Sharma (R.D.E. West), Dr. Anil Saxena (D.D. West B), Ms. Alka Sehrawat (D.D.), Sports Supervisors of Zone XVII (Mrs. Amita Grover) and XVIII (Mr. Pawan Singh) and principals of various schools.

On 7 and 8 February, students of classes VI to XI par�cipated in various games such as Badminton, Table Tennis, Football, Tennis, Handball, Volleyball, Ska�ng, Basketball and various Athle�c events and on 22 February, the students of classes I to V par�cipated in Athle�cs, Ska�ng and Tennis compe��ons. A FIELD DAY

The Cricket team of our school reached the semi-final of Sumermal Jain Inter School U - 12 Cricket Tournament held from 7 to 15 December, 2016. Our school team defeated New Era Public School, Janak Puri by 7 wickets in the first match for which Yash Bansal (VI F) was awarded Man of the Match trophy and cer�ficate. We defeated Bal Bhar� Public School, Ganga Ram Marg by 8 wickets in the second match and Tarun Kumar (VI H) was awarded Man of the Match. Both the winners were awarded.

15th Parsvnath Delhi Interna�onal Open Chess Tournament was held from 9 to 16 January, 2017. Grand Masters from all over the world par�cipated in the event. In this open Chess Tournament, three students from our school namely Aashman Gupta (IV A), Aashita Sethi (VII A) and Sanchit Chauhan (VII F) par�cipated. Aashita Sethi and Sanchit Chauhan scored 2.5/10 in the tournament and Aashman Gupta brought laurels to the school by scoring 6 points out of 10. He secured third best posi�on in the Under – 9 category and was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 7000/-.

CricketAyush Saini (VIII I) was selected to represent Delhi U – 14 Cricket team in the 62nd Na�onal School Games held at Maharashtra from 29 January, 2017 to 5 February, 2017. Delhi team played matches against Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh and C.B.S.E. Haryana team. Delhi team won all the matches and reached the final. CRICKET FEVERKhush Nagpal (VIII C) was selected in UPCA U – 14 Cricket team to par�cipate in Raj Singh Dungarpur Trophy held at Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh from 15 to 30 January, 2017. The team played matches against Rajasthan, Chha�sgarh and Madhya Pradesh. The final was played against Rajasthan. The UPCA team won the final match.

Zakir Hussain College:15 students of our school par�cipated in the Model United Na�ons hosted by Zakir Hussain College from 19 to 21 January, 2017. The students in UNHRC and Security Council represented different countries such as North Korea, Sweden, Jordan, UAE, Finland, Qatar and Afghanistan and debated on issues of Violent Extremism and Human Rights Viola�on. Some students also par�cipated in All India Poli�cal par�es meet as Sukhbir Singh Badal (SAD), Shiela Dikshit (INC), Ram Gopal Yadav (SP) and Derek O Brien (TMC) and debated on Demone�za�on and other policies of NDA government. OUR GLORIOUS OUTINGS

As a follow-up to the Cyber Security workshop held in September 2016, 5 students of our school, accompanied by their teacher, Mr. N. Gupta, Tanmay Chopra (X B), Sameep Arora (XI D), Moksh Marwah(XI D), Sanchit Nanda (XI F), Samarth Khanna (XI F) visited the Indian Ins�tute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur on 20 January, 2017 for a two-day event. The students got an opportunity to experience the IIT campus. On 21 January, the final workshop (Ethical Hacking and Cyber Security) taken by Mr. Sahil Baghla (CEO EH1 Infotech,Chandigarh), organized by MakeIntern Pvt. Ltd., took place in an IIT classroom. The workshop was followed by a quiz and presenta�on, in which the students from our school bagged the First prize at Na�onal Level. The students were awarded a trophy, medals and T-shirts as mementos.

Our students brought laurels to the school by winning the Microso� and Google Interna�onal Compe��on. Kar�k Singh (VIIIF) and Paarth Sikka(VIIF) par�cipated in Google Code to Learn India Contest. Kar�k Singh won a Chrome Book with the efforts of Paarth Sikka. Kanishk Chhabra (IX A) par�cipated in Interna�onal HTML Compe��on organized by Microso� in which he obtained the Fourth posi�on in the world and won X-Box 360 and a Dell Laptop for the same.

TECHNOVANZA10 students of our school par�cipated in Technovanza2.0, an Inter School Computer Compe��on hosted by Bal Bhara� Public School, Ganga Ram Hospital Marg, Delhi on 9 December, 2016. In order to provide students with diverse avenues to explore their poten�al and discover their true self, TIMES NIE organized a Zonal Best Out Of Waste Compe��on - "Regard Before You Discard", at Shah Interna�onal School on 9 December 2016. 3 teams from our school (Junior, Middle, Senior) par�cipated in the event. The students proved that the 3Rs - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle are the best strategies to make the most out of waste materials. The team comprising of Deveshi Sanmotra (VII G), Vishakha Aggarwal (VII H), Hardik Garg (VII H), Varima Sharma (VIII D) and Mehar Singh (VIII G) won a special prize for expressing their talent and crea�vity.

Filmit is a mul�-cultural project funded by Helen Hamlyn Trust (UK). This project aims at nurturing cultural understanding, care and concern amongst school children through the exci�ng experience of making and sharing films. 34 schools of Delhi par�cipated in this project and students of our school won prizes in 3 different categories - Best Narra�ve Story- Pot Man by Sachkeerat Singh (VIII A), Ronak Goel(VIII A) ; Best Visuals- Jaggo Ceremony by Sanat Vadhera(VIII C), Parth Dhawan(VIII C), Arjun Katyal(VIII I), Sukrit Mehndira�a(VIII G) and Best Documentary Film- Tradi�onal Games by Parth Sikka(VII F), Vibhor Sharma (VII F), Palak Sikka(VII G) and Tarishi Gaur (VI H).

Students of our school par�cipated in the Speaker of the Year contest last year in the month of October. Of the 33 par�cipants, 7 of them qualified for the Na�onal Level round, which was held on 5 February 2017. The students' consistency and confidence paid off as Divyanshi Arora (IX F) won the Ist Runners' Up trophy in the High School Champ category and Sanah Malik (IX G) won a prize for Fabulous Expression. Hear�est congratula�ons to both of them for placing our school amongst the toppers at Na�onal Level.

GEO-SPATIAL KNOWLEDGE CONTEST 2016Two students, A�shaye Jain and Saatvik Bhatnagar of Class XB par�cipated in Geo-Spa�al Knowledge Contest 2016 (blog wri�ng) which was conducted all over India by GeoIT Hub. A�shaye Jain won the third posi�on and Saatvik Bhatnagar won the special theme based award of 'Business Intelligence Mogul'. The students won a cash prize of Rs.5000 each.Saatvik Bhatnagar has also received the second installment of scholarship on the basis of AITS - 2015 Examina�on sponsored by Children's Educa�on Trust.Our school par�cipated in the Annual Swami Vivekananda Compe��on consis�ng of a quiz, essay wri�ng, ac�vi�es like skit enactment and group discussion. Saatvik Bhatnagar (X B) won the First Prize all over Delhi in the Senior Category and got a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.

Project – Search, which was ini�ated in 2009 by Teri and Tetra Pak to create awareness on Waste Management and Sustainable Environment in the schools, completed its project cycle on 7 December, 2016. The ceremony was graced by senior dignitaries from field of waste management followed by inspira�onal talks by principals of various schools from different ci�es. 14 Eco Club members of our school along with teacher incharges Ms. M.Pathak and Ms. S.Kaur a�ended this ceremony at India Habitat Centre. The main idea behind this was to share the outcomes and learnings of Project Search and to carry them forward to the school and parent community in the years to come. The students were sensi�zed towards steps and methods with to ensure that their school produces negligible waste.

30 students along with their teachers Ms. M. Pathak and Ms. S. Kaur of our school a�ended Green School Programme Award Ceremony on 15 February,2017 at India Habitat Centre. The students par�cipated in Sit and draw compe��on wherein they had to make posters on any of the given themes (Food, Waste, Green ci�es, Saviours of the Earth).Students were sensi�zed towards importance of conserving resources by means of street plays and exhibi�on.

Bharat Kwatra (XI E) with his model Bionic Glove and DivyanshChhiber (XI E) and Hardik (IX C) with their model Robo�c Arm par�cipated in the Science Fair held at Na�onal Science Centre on 16, 17 and 18 January, 2017. Bharat Kwatra's model (Bionic Glove) was the only one selected from New Delhi in the Individual Category. This model was put up in the Northern India Science Fair (2017), along with other states in the Northern region.

Members of the Earth Saviours Eco Club made organic colours for Holi, using sandalwood, gram flour, turmeric and other organic materials. Children understood the importance of using organic colours, which do not harm the skin. They were told about the dangers of using chemical colours available in the market. They really enjoyed the colour making.

SHAKESPEARE FOREVERTwo teachers of our school, Ms. T. Kant and Ms. R. Kohli, along with their students, Tanya Batra(XIC), Sanya Batra(XID), Maanvi Mudgil(XIE) and Ananya De(XIF), par�cipated in a Shakespeare Quiz organized by Xpress Minds for all fans of the Bard at the India Interna�onal Centre on 8 December, 2016. The quiz, based on Shakespeare's life and works, consisted of a wri�en preliminary round of 20 ques�ons followed by an on-stage final. Our team managed to win some wonderful books as prizes for spot answers. The quiz was a reminder of the expanse of the Bard's work and the fact that no ma�er how vast our knowledge may be, there is s�ll more to draw from the ocean of his crea�ons.

COMET MAKING AND ROCKET LAUNCHING SESSION35 students of classes VI to IX par�cipated in comet making ac�vity held on 10 February, 2017. They used dry ice, mud, sugar and bleach and made their own comets with the help of resource persons from Zlife Educa�on. They also par�cipated in another ac�vity held on 13 February, 2017 in which they made rockets which were launched with the mini launcher in the school premises. Overall students learnt a lot from these hands-on experiences.

NIGHT SKY OBSERVATIONYear-long ac�vi�es of Astronomy Club (Module 1) culminated with Night Sky session on 25 March, 2017. Students of Astronomy Club alongwith their teacher incharges a�ended night sky observa�on at 'Camp Mustang' in Badshahpur. Students observed Jupiter, Saturn and various constella�ons – Orion and Pleids. Winners of various compe��ons held during the year were awarded with medals. It was an exci�ng fun filled evening with lots of adventure for the students.
