Editorial

With the start of a new year, we look forward to a con-

tinuance of the high quality and technical innovation reflected

in the journal publications. The twelve issues published in

1994, including two special issues on the timely subjects of Software Engineering for Parallel Systems and Multimedia

Information Systems, attest to the high standard established

for the journal. The aims of Znfurmution and Sofwure

Technology remain to:

document original, relevant and quality contributions to the theory, methods and practice of information and software technology;

provide a reference for researchers and practitioners,

working in all aspects of information and software

systems development;

offer a broadbased forum for discussion on evolving theoretical ideas and current practice in information and

software technology.

The co-editors, Michael Dyer and Professor Martin

Shepperd, will continue to promote the international contri-

butions to the journal and attempt to maintain expeditious

refereeing and timely publication of technical submissions. Technical submissions continue to be sought in the areas of:

. reports on original theoretical work or practice in

information system development; . case studies on the introduction of theories, methods,

practices or tools which show promise of widespread applicability to information systems development;

survey and tutorial discussions on timely technology

areas with assessments of the associated methods,

practices and tools; short notes, position papers or research outlines on

ongoing work which holds promise for information

system development.

Dr Marc Roper will continue as Reviews Editor and provide the timely reporting on new books and significant technical meetings that enhanced the 1994 issues. We would like to

take the opportunity to thank MS Karen Hemingway, the journal’s retiring Group Editor, for her dedication to the aims

of the journal and wish her well in her future endeavours.

At the same time, we are very pleased to welcome MS Drs Eefke Smit, as the new Group Editor at Elsevier Science.

We look forward to continued contributions from our

readership, who have provided the leading edge reports on evolving technologies, such as requirements specification

techniques, system and software architectures, development environments and tools, measurement and process improve-

ment, project management, reuse and re-engineering, object-oriented techniques, to name but a few.
