BIRTHING KIT ASSEMBLY A RESOUNDING SUCCESS: 2000 Birthing kits assembled Thanks to almost 100 members of the public plus students from local schools who supported our Club we were able to produce 2000 birthing kits by the end of Saturday August 19th. We must also thank our local media for helping us to promote this event, without the help of the ABC radio, the Bendigo Weekly and the Bendigo Ad-vertiser the public wouldn't know of this opportunity to volunteer to help save mums' and babies' lives. A record 104 people ( including members) tuned up to help, which meant we completed all the kits by just after lunch. We had to apologise to those who came in the early afternoon by which time we had already completed all the kits we had materials for. Some helpers stayed on to help thread cord in toiletry bags. A huge thanks to Irene who coordinated the ordering, collection and distribution of the materials to the schools and the assembly day. Kathy and helpers Rosalie, Sue H. Irene, Jan, Ann and Nell attended at least 5 sessions at schools. On the Assembly day, Kathryn brought the signage and manned the welcome desk, and many club members brought food, helped set up and clean up, as well as helped the public assemble our kits on the day. A big thank you to everyone who helped in any way at all. This is the event for which Zonta gains huge Kudos in the public eye. ...especially after the significant coverage on WIN news.

Recommendations will be brought to members for discussion. It was also felt that some items called “policies” are actually pro-cedures, and some reclassifica-tion is necessary.

Please note : The Friends of the Art Gallery are strong supporters of Zonta and our events. This valuation day is a nice op-portunity to return their support. Friends of the Art Gallery have recently delivered the 742nd toilet bag to Christine’s place—a great effort towards our toiletry bag project. Apparently they did not start counting for a while so the total they have made for us could well be higher!
