Door Specifications

We design all our handles, cylinders, hinges andlocking systems to be the best they can be. With thefinest design, most precise machining and the highestquality materials throughout so they endure endlessuse beautifully.

HOPPE has developed a patented profile spindle,which for the first time features a method of fitting andsecuring the inside lever handle onto the door. Due tothe design of the spindle, the screw cannot comeloose through vibration or the continuous opening andclosing of the door. In the event of the handle needingto be adjusted, this is easily accomplished by removingthe screw with the hex wrench and relocating it.

To order the proper handle set, we will need thefollowing information from you:

1. Style Number such as M112PL/374N.2. Finish Color such as F77-R.3. Your door thickness, 45mm (1.75) is standard.

The door thickness is important as it affects thescrew, shaft and cylinder length.

4. Position of eurogroove. This is either centered oroffset.

5. What type of door set do you need?

An active door set is the handle set used on theprimary functioning door. This set will always have acylinder hole in the exterior and interior backplate toaccept a full cylinder.

An inactive door set is the handle set used on theinactive panel. This set will have a cylinder hole on theinside backplate only to accept a half insert that has athumb turn.

A pair fixed dummy is a handle set usually “fixed” inplace by either a fixing shaft or a fixing nut. They serveonly as pull handles and do not operate. They are usuallyused on inactive panels where a mortise flush bolt hasbeen used. These sets have no cylinder hole in eitherbackplate.

A single fixed dummy is a single handle which isfixed in place just as the pair fixed dummy. You need tospecify either right or left handed for inside or outside ofthe door.

RH is the standard abbreviation for right handed. Seedoor handing chart on page 8.

LH is the standard abbreviation for left handed. Seedoor handing chart on page 8.

Handle Information

Door Handing

Resista® - The HOPPE Surface GuaranteeAll HOPPE brass handles are manufactured using the

finest quality brass alloys. The surface of the handle isprotected by a transparent enamel finish which offersstrength, intensity and durability, as well as a smooth,blemish-free surface.

HOPPE’s Resista® program of finishes is available onselected solid brass handle sets and protects against tarnishing, peeling and cracking. All Resista® finishes areindicated by an “R” after the handle color code and arecovered by our Resista® Finish Limited Lifetime Warrantywhich is explained on page 50.

Exterior

Door handing is always determined from the exterior.When hinges are on the left, the door is LH; when hinges are on the right, door is RH.Inswing or outswing does not determine handing.

It is important to remember to use water and a softcloth to clean brass. Do not use brass cleaner,detergents or chemical cleansers as they may remove the protective coating.

Handle Set Installation

Swing Door Handle Set Installation Instructions

1. Apply the backplate gasket to the inside of the exterior back-plate. Push gasket firmly onto place to ensure a tight seal.Apply the backplate gasket to the inside of the interior back-plate. Apply interior and exterior backplates and fasten looselywith the two screws provided. Note: The screw heads mustbe on the interior side of the door.

2. Insert the two-piece handle shaft into the handle. Be sure toorient the shaft as shown below. Screw the setscrew until flushwith handle using the hex wrench. Insert the handle into thelatch hole.

3. Install the interior handle on the shaft through the latch hole,pressing tightly to the backplates. Tighten the interior handleset screw with hex wrench. Screw until flush with handle.

4. Insert the keyed cylinder from the interior side of the door until itis flush with the exterior backplate. Install the cylinder screw inthe screw hole below the deadbolt in the edge of the door.

5. Tighten the backplate screws.

A Phillips screwdriver is required.

A Hex wrench for set screws is provid-ed in the hardware package.

To prevent damage to the handle setwhile in construction phase, use theenclosed construction handle to oper-ate the door. Lift handle to engagemultipoint while in the closed position.Push down on handle to open thedoor.

Use water and a soft cloth to clean.Do not use brass cleaner as it willremove the protective coating.

Note:Handles and backplates vary by style but appli-cation is the same.

1. Determine handing. Remember handles will beperpendicular to backplate, pointing either to the leftor right.

2. Slide handle into backplate so square corners of thehandle neck match up with notches in backplate.

3. Insert screw from back side of plate into handle neckand firmly tighten down with the included 6mm hexwrench.

1. For alternative backplate style, drill 1/8” pilot hole,then drill 7/16” hole through door stile to acceptbackplate screws and lugs. Make sure to drillstraight through.

2. Mount handle and backplate assemblies to interiorand exterior of door with screws provided.

3. Install lock cylinder from interior side. Insert thecylinder screw through the pre-drilled hole in the stileas show, and then tighten.

4. Tighten under plate screws. Slide back plate overhandle and snap onto the under plate.

5. For passive door panel on bi-parting units, repeatabove procedures.

Stainless Steel Lever Set Installation Instructions

1. Apply interior and exterior under plates and fastenloosely with the 2 1/8” Phillips head screws provided.Note: The interior plate has recessed holes forscrews. The exterior plate has threads in post onplates.

2. Firmly snap the handle with the shaft into underplate. Slide other handle over shaft as you snap thehandle into the under plate. Firm pressure may berequired. Tighten handle with set screw using a 3 mm hex wrench.

A Phillips screwdriverand 3 mm hex wrench isrequired.

Use any household cleanerwhich is suitable for stainlesssteel for cleaning if necessary.

Glossary

Active Door Set

Handle set used on the active panel. This set willalways have two cylinder holes in the backplates toaccept a full cylinder.

Backplate

Decorative plate which mounts to the face of the doorwith holes to accept the handle and cylinder.

Backplate Screw

Screws that attach one backplate to the other. Thescrews enter through screw holes on the interior plate,travel through the door and attach directly to theexterior plate. Available in a variety of lengths toaccommodate different door thicknesses.

Backset

Distance from the surface of the lock faceplate to thecenter of the handle hole. This distance establisheswhere the handle will be mounted to the face of thedoor. The HLS9000 multipoint system uses a 35mm (1 3/8") or a standard 45mm (1 3/4") backset. Deeperbacksets are available for 60mm (2.375) and 70mm(2.75).

Cylinder

The unit that mounts lengthwise through the doorthickness and backplate. The thumb turn knob andkey activate a cam which locks the deadbolt.

Cylinder Screw

Screw used to tighten cylinder into place. The screwenters through the faceplate and drive rail on the edgeof the door and tightens into a threaded hole in theside of the cylinder.

Fixed Dummy

Handle set is usually “fixed” in place. Handles serveonly as pull handles and do not operate. Usually usedon inactive panels where a mortise flush bolt has beenused. These sets have no cylinder holes in eitherbackplate.

Handle Set

Kit which includes handles, backplates and screws andmay also include a cylinder.

Inactive Door Set

Handle set used on the inactive panel. This set willhave a cylinder hole on the inside plate only to accepta half cylinder. You may also use an active set on aninactive panel.

Inactive Hardware

Hardware used on the inactive panel, no latch ordeadbolt.

Powder Coating

Type of finishing process in which parts are powdersprayed in a spray booth and then baked to cure thefinish.

PZ

Refers to the distance from the center of the handlehole to the center of the cylinder hole. HLS swing doorstandard is PZ 92mm.

Set Screw

Small screw located on the neck of the handle which isused to tighten handle into the spindle.

Spindle

One or two-piece metal shaft used to mount thehandles to the door. The two-piece has a groove thataccepts the set screw in the handle. Available indifferent lengths to accommodate a variety of doorthicknesses.

UG

This term is used to refer to “no cylinder hole” on a backplate.


Warranties

Resista® FinishLimited Lifetime Finish Warranty

The solid brass handles and solid brass backplates withResista® finish sold by HOPPE North America, Inc. (each a“Product,” together the “Products”) are warranted againsttarnish on the Resista® finish for the life of the Product aslong as the Product is owned by the original purchaser andused in the residence in which it was originally installed.

This Limited Warranty covers only residential applicationsand proof of original purchase or product registration isrequired to make a claim under this Limited Warranty. ThisLimited Warranty excludes a Product: (1) with scratches orabrasions; (2) that has been altered; improperly installed,abused and/or misused; (3) used in commercial applications;(4) that has been damaged by acts of nature; (5) that hasundergone normal wear and tear; or (6) has not been properlymaintained according to the manufacturer’s writtenspecifications. This Limited Warranty is expressly limited topersons or entities that purchase the Product for resale or usein their ordinary course of business.

If a Product is found to be defective by HOPPE NorthAmerica, Inc. in its reasonable judgment, HOPPE NorthAmerica, Inc. will, at its sole option, either repair or replace thedefective hardware. This Limited Warranty does not coverany labor charges to remove and/or reinstall a Product.

THE FOREGOING LIMITED WARRANTY IS EXCLUSIVEAND HOPPE NORTH AMERICA, INC. MAKES NOWARRANTY WITH RESPECT TO ITS PRODUCTS,EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, EXCEPT AS SET FORTH HEREIN.ALL OTHER EXPRESSED WARRANTIES, AND ALL IMPLIEDWARRANTIES (INCLUDING THE WARRANTIES OFMERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULARPURPOSE), ARE HEREBY DISCLAIMED. HOPPE NORTHAMERICA, INC.’S LIABILITY, WHETHER IN CONTRACT,NEGLIGENCE OR OTHER TORT, STRICT LIABILITY ORUNDER ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY, ARISING OUT OFWARRANTIES, ACTIONS, OMISSIONS, REPRESENTATIONS,INSTRUCTIONS OR WARNINGS (OR LACK ORINADEQUACY THEREOF), DEFICIENCIES, FAILURES, ORDEFECTS OF ANY KIND OR FROM ANY CAUSE SHALL BELIMITED SOLELY TO REPAIRING OR REPLACINGDEFECTIVE PARTS PURSUANT TO THIS WARRANTY.

IN NO EVENT SHALL ANY CLAIM OR RECOVERY OFANY KIND EXCEED THE PURCHASE PRICE OF THEPRODUCT WITH RESPECT TO WHICH SUCH CLAIM ORRECOVERY IS MADE AND IN NO EVENT SHALL HOPPENORTH AMERICA, INC. BE LIABLE FOR SPECIAL,INDIRECT, PUNITIVE, INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIALDAMAGES (INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, LOSTPROFITS) RESULTING FROM THE USE OR MAINTENANCEOF THIS PRODUCT, OR ARISING OUT OF ANY BREACH OFTHIS WARRANTY, OR FOR ANY OTHER REASON. HOPPE North America, Inc.Limited Lifetime Mechanical Warranty

Each product manufactured and sold by HOPPENorth America, Inc. (a "Product") is warranted againstdefects in materials and workmanship for the life of theProduct as long as the Product is owned by the originalpurchaser and used in the residence in which it wasoriginally installed (proof of original purchase required).This Warranty does not cover discoloration on finishes.This Warranty does not cover any labor charges toremove and/or reinstall a Product. Terms & Conditions

TERMS AND CONDITIONS GOVERNING SALES

1. Governing Provisions. These Terms and ConditionsGoverning Sales (the “Agreement”) constitute an offer by HOPPENorth America, Inc. (“Seller”) to provide the goods described herein(the “Products”) to the buyer to which this offer is addressed(“Buyer”), subject to the terms and conditions set forth herein. Buyermay not modify, change, renounce or waive any term or conditionhereof or any of Seller’s rights or remedies hereunder, unless Sellerconsents thereto in writing. Seller agrees to provide the Products toBuyer only on the terms of this Agreement, notwithstanding anylanguage in Buyer’s purchase order, if one exists, or other writing ororal representation previously or hereafter received by Sellerpurporting to amend, modify or replace the terms of this Agreementwith any different or additional terms or reciting that provision ordelivery of the Products or any other action or inaction by Sellerconstitutes agreement or consent by Seller to such amendment,modification or replacement. SELLER’S AGREEMENT TO PROVIDETHE PRODUCTS IS EXPRESSLY CONDITIONED ON BUYER'SASSENT TO ALL OF THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS SET FORTHHEREIN.

2. Acceptance. Buyer shall be deemed to have made anunqualified acceptance of this Agreement, on the earliest to occur ofthe following: (a) Seller's receipt of a copy of this Agreement signedby Buyer; (b) Buyer’s payment of any amounts due under thisAgreement; (c) Buyer’s receipt of the Products; or (d) any other eventconstituting acceptance under applicable law.

3. Cancellation or Modification. Buyer may not cancel ormodify its order except upon terms accepted by Seller in a writingsigned by Seller’s authorized officer. In the event of such cancellationor modification, Buyer shall compensate Seller for all costs anddamages resulting therefrom, including, but not limited to, out-of-pocket expenses, lost profit, allocable overhead and all otherincidental and consequential damages.

4. Taxes. Buyer shall pay any tax, duty, custom, inspectionor testing fee or any other fee or charge imposed on, in connectionwith or measured by the transaction between Seller and Buyer inaddition to the prices quoted or invoiced.

5. Schedules; Delay. All delivery dates hereunder areapproximate. Seller shall not be liable to Buyer for delays in deliverydue to state of war, riot, civil disorder, fire, strikes, work slow-downs,accidents, actions of government or civil authority, delay intransportation, energy failure, equipment breakdown, delay ofsuppliers, inability to obtain necessary labor, materials ormanufacturing facilities, acts of God or any causes beyond thereasonable control of Seller. In the event of any such delay, Sellershall perform such parts of the work as Seller is capable ofperforming and, even if Buyer places all or any part of the workelsewhere, Seller shall be entitled to resume such work as soon aspracticable. Buyer’s exclusive remedy for such delays, and forSeller's inability to deliver for any reason, shall be rescission of theaffected order.

6. Payment Terms. Payment terms are C.O.D. unless (a)Seller approves different terms based on a written credit or financingagreement submitted by Buyer or (b) Seller, in its sole discretion,requires payment in advance. Buyer shall pay interest on all past dueamounts at the rate equal to the lower of 1.5% per month or thehighest rate permitted by applicable law.

7. Rights Upon Default. If Buyer does not pay Seller anyamount due Seller from Buyer under this Agreement or any otheragreement when such amount is due or if Buyer defaults in theperformance of any covenant or condition of this Agreement, Sellermay, without liability to Buyer and without prejudice to Seller’s otherlawful remedies (a) terminate this Agreement, (b) declare immediatelydue and payable all Buyer’s obligations to Seller, (c) change creditterms with respect to any further work or (d) suspend or discontinueany further work until Buyer pays all overdue amounts and Buyerdeposits with Seller cash or security satisfactory to Seller coveringfurther work. Seller’s foregoing rights shall be in addition to any otherrights Seller may have and shall not prejudice any such right. Buyeragrees to reimburse Seller for all costs incurred by Seller in collectingany sums owed by Buyer to Seller.

8. Warranties and Remedy. See Finish Warranty or LifetimeLimited Mechanical Warranty supplied upon request

9. DISCLAIMER OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES. THEWARRANTY PROVIDED IS EXCLUSIVE, AND SELLER MAKES NOOTHER WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, WITHRESPECT TO A PRODUCT. SELLER HEREBY EXPRESSLYDISCLAIMS ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITYAND/OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. ANY ORAL ORWRITTEN DESCRIPTION OF A PRODUCT IS FOR THE SOLEPURPOSE OF IDENTIFYING A PRODUCT AND SHALL NOT BECONSTRUED AS AN EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY.

10. Delivery. The price quoted for the Products is F.O.B.Seller’s premises. Risk of loss for the Products passes to Buyer upondelivery. Title to the Products passes to Buyer upon Buyer’s paymentin full for the Products. The parties hereby agree that this Agreementshall constitute the security agreement required by the UniformCommercial Code (“UCC”) of the appropriate state. Buyer herebygrants Seller a security interest in the Products, wherever located, andall proceeds thereof, to secure Buyer’s payment in full for theProducts. Buyer hereby authorizes Seller to execute any UCCfinancing statement, or any other document necessary or appropriate,to protect Seller’s security interest.

11. Governing Law. The internal laws of the State of Wisconsinshall govern the rights and obligations of Seller and Buyer under thisAgreement.

12. Miscellaneous. Seller reserves the right to correct clericalor similar errors relating to price or any other term shown in thisAgreement. Invalidity or unenforceability of any term or part of thisAgreement shall not affect the validity or enforceability of theremainder of this Agreement. Failure of either party to insist, in anyone or more instances, upon performance of any term, covenant orcondition of this Agreement shall not be construed as a waiver orrelinquishment of any right granted hereunder or the futureperformance of such term, covenant or condition.

13. FINAL WRITTEN EXPRESSION. THIS AGREEMENTCONSTITUTES A FINAL WRITTEN EXPRESSION OF THE TERMSBETWEEN SELLER AND BUYER AND IS A COMPLETE ANDEXCLUSIVE STATEMENT OF THOSE TERMS. ANY NEGOTIATIONSOR UNDERSTANDINGS BETWEEN SELLER AND BUYER WHICHARE NOT CONTAINED IN THIS AGREEMENT HAVE NO FORCE OREFFECT. ANY AND ALL PURCHASE ORDERS, CORRESPONDENCEOR STATEMENTS THAT CONFLICT WITH, DIFFER FROM ORMODIFY THIS AGREEMENT SHALL HAVE NO FORCE OR EFFECT.

14. ALL INFORMATION IS FOR REFERENCE ONLY ANDSUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE.
