Well the rally season begins to come alive and a look through my diary starts to show few free weekends. In this newsletter are a couple of new invites; one to the new home for the Association archive and a weekend rally to the Welshpool and Llanfair Caereinion railway with the Pre-War Austin 7 Club You will also notice the visit to the Birmingham Museums Store in Doleman Street on Sunday 23rd August. This is a treasure house of all the things that are not on display in the museums and art galleries. Most of the old Museum of Science and Industry seems to be there. There is parking on site and admission is free. Sunday is reasonably quiet in the centre of Brum so you could use your 7. More detail in a future newsletter. Maybe we could meet up somewhere first for lunch and then drive in to the store. The engine saga continued as I stripped it revealing broken piston rings and much wear on the rings and the piston ring grooves. When the crankcase was fully stripped a gentle tap with the drift, never mind the hammer, and the lip dropped out of the crankcase. Not deterred I machined away the lip and fitted the ring I bought from John Barlow. I have then reassembled the bottom end of the engine after checking the big ends. Soldering the oil gauze meant digging the propane cylinder out from under the bench to power the soldering iron hearth I found in a skip.Yes you guessed, as soon as I lit the gas, it went out; no gas left. I looked for a Shell gas supplier, couldn’t find any, so rang Shell, who told me they sold on the gas cylinder side “over 8 years ago”! I moved on to their suggested Flo gas supplier, who when I visited, looked at my cylinder like I’d brought in an antique. Still it works OK, now and probably for the next 20 years. With no excuses, I started work on the RK. I taken out the petrol tank out and tried it before but when I tried it this time I found a small leak. So the new gas came in useful again. I removed the starter and then the gearbox which had been left in when the engine was removed by the previous owner. I had decided to fit indicators so I cut out a pair of rear No. plate light brackets and riveted them to the No. plate. The car had a bump on the front at some time so I started by removing the front wing and the flitch plate which needs straightening. I am fitting new wings, so plenty to do with marking out all the holes and checking it all goes together.
Regards, Andy

Staffordshire-Welshpool Weekend
We have been invited to join in with the Pre-war Austin 7 Club on their rally at Welshpool and the Welshpool and Llanfair light railway. General outline The rally starts with a run from Trentham Gardens and leads to the railway just outside Welshpool at Llanfair Caererinion. A ride on the narrow gauge railway and back to a barbecue with the railway folk. Staying over night with a ride home via Powys Castle . Should be a good visit especially if you like narrow gauge trains. Further details and entry forms from Arthur Davies * I have entry forms for 47th Beaulieu Rally on the 28th July – Andy*
From John Roberts, as was the oil article, thank you John
There was Austin Seven interest at this show, which is predominantly a historic motorsports show; however there is much engineering which can be used on the general Austin Seven and other old cars.
Edith was only wondering where Harold was going to sit!
