I fell in love with the Scottish Highlands at the same time asfalling in love with the man who was to become my husband;

soon after we met, he had taken me to his home there, an Aberdeenshire estatein the hills, with a far-reaching view over the mountains. Since then, I’ve

explored that wild landscape – the heather-clad moorland and quiet, peatylochs, the paths that lead up to the highest points, where the sky seems to

stretch for ever. It’s the place where I go to escape, but also wheremy heart has found a home.

I love Saint-Rémy-de-Provence for its relaxed, bucolicsetting. It feels very tucked away and there is

something extremely special and tranquil about thelocation. However, there is a vibrant buzz to a holidayspent there with friends and family, especially whengathering at a large table for languorous meals that

last for hours. I crave French food, and here I can eatentirely fresh produce, which I adore. Saint-Rémy ismy favourite setting: spending entire days in the pooland reading in the sun while the children run wild, or

taking day trips to the beach, and visiting the mostwonderful antique markets. It’s also the perfect place

for chic dressing up.

truly great hotel can raise a mere mini-break or banalbusiness trip into a delight. As any traveller knows, it isnot simply the beauty of a building or the taste of thefood you eat while you’re away that makes the stay

unforgettable. Rather, it’s that moment when the conciergewelcomes you, the way the waiter helps you to your table, or howthe masseuse makes you feel that can be transformative. At TheRitz-Carlton, every member of staff understands this. They willall go the extra mile to turn your visit to any of its 88 heavenlyproperties across theworld into amemory youwill treasure for ever.

Miami is a city built on, and dominated by, water. The waves of theAtlantic lap gently onto the sands of South Beach and the sun spar-kles on countless crystal-blue swimming pools. One of the mostbeautiful of these pools is found at The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach. The hotel was designed in 1953 by Morris Lapidus and its sensitiverestoration in the hands of the The Ritz-Carlton group has taken itback to its early glory days, when Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin andSammy Davis Jnr lounged at the bar beforesetting the evening alight with music. Miami, with all its natural beauty, is also intensely stylish

and instinctively fun-loving. Spend an indulgent morning strollingpast candy-pink houses and palm-trees dancing in the breeze or dipinto designer boutiques, quirky interiors stores and a truly giganticshoppingmall brimming with temptations. Many art lovers were first attracted here by Art Basel Miami, the

December celebration of creativity that sendsthe whole city into an artful spin with endlessgalleries to explore, performance art on streetcorners, and even a bi-plane circling above thebeach bearing a conceptual message. But at anytime of the year, after a day of gallery visits, thebright turquoise parasols of The Ritz-CarltonSouth Beach beckonyou back to base to relaxwith an Americano.Or perhaps youwould

prefer to slip into thehotel’s luxurious spa, where thedecor, with its nautical theme andstarfish motifs, is as calming asthe treatments within. And then, oncemore restoredandrefreshed, you can choose any one of thehotel’s dining options to roundoffyour day in style.

This mega-metropolis cleverly marries

From far left: traditional paper lanterns. The lobby of The Ritz-Carlton in

Seoul. The view from a private balcony

Seoul is one of the world’s new style capitals: a dramatic, dynamic city that is leading the way in technology, beauty, colourful pop art and bold, bright fashion. This mega-metropolis cleverly marries its rich traditional past with a unique modernity – and nowhere is this better seen than in the Gangnam district, an upscale area given global fame by K-pop sensation Psy. His hit track (with that memo-rable video – the most-watched ever) captures the manic energy of downtown Seoul, an almost overwhelming conflation of business, culture and entertainment.

So it is with some relief that you come upon The Ritz-Carlton, a perfect oasis of luxury near Gangnam Station. Outside, designer-clad teens roam the streets in excited search of the next big thing. But within its classically inspired interior, surrounded by works of art, under the glimmering light of a four-tiered chandelier, you may forget that the future is happening right on your doorstep.

This is a hotel in the grand European tradition, where it takes a warm ‘Anyong haseyo’ welcome to bring you back to South Korea. Of course, Seoul’s other world-leading export is food, again a unique experience – steaming bowls of bibimbap or kimchi stew, spicy skewers of barbeque beef or pork, piles of rice cakes and savoury

fried pancakes, feasts of seafood and fer-mented vegetables – and the city is filled with restaurants that all serve variations on one specific dish.

A walk around any neighbourhood will offer up culinary delights as well as curiosi-ties (baby octopus is a surprising local delicacy), but those with more refined tastes may wish to stay within the sanctuary of The Ritz-Carlton, where the country’s culinary spirit is served up in supremely stylish surroundings. Please visit ritzcarlton.com for more information.

The Tuscany of Florence, Sienna and SanGimignano is as well-known as it trodden. But go

west, to the coast, and you’ll find a world milesremoved from those rolling, olive-tree-clad hills. Here we settle into tiny restaurants that hug theshore like limpets, serving up fresh fish and coolcarafes of local wine: simple, unpretentious andutterly divine. Then, as the sun goes down, weretire back to base, housed in the most elegantof palazzos. The food is fiercely local, and thesoundtrack is nothing more than the buzz of

a million crickets. This is pure, undilutedluxury, and a place where everyday irks and

worries melt into the purple dusk.

I am half Brazilian, so Rio de Janeiro is my home awayfrom home. It’s a beautiful and magical place full of

colour, music, culture and soul. I try to visit at least oncea year, and last Easter my family and I went with friends.

It’s always wonderful to rediscover a city you love, especially when introducing it to people who have never

been before. I’ll enjoy my favourite view in the worldfrom Ipanema Beach during the day, and love a bit of

samba in Lapa by night.

Sailing the Dalmatian coastline from PortoMontenegro to Croatia is magical – rugged andmountainous terrain meets the bluest seas I’ve

ever seen. We spent the trip exploring the ancienttowns of Budva and the Bay of Kotor, right up

to the Old Town in Dubrovnik, and took time torelax on the boat, gazing at the crystal-clearwater with an Aperol spritz in hand. We hada delicious meal at Konoba Langust in Przno,

which has stunning views over the sea –the grilled octopus and langouste (local

Montenegrin spiny lobster) are amazing.

Ibiza is somewhere that the sun always seems to shine, and a trip to theWhite Isle is guaranteed to be filled with lots of friends and fun encounters.

But I always make sure to factor in a few days of peace and quiet, andcomplete solitude as well. This year my boyfriend and I went with the threechildren, and split the holiday into two parts. The first week in the south was

action-packed, with 20 children in the house, boat-trips, wild dinners anda Temperley trunk show in the mix. Then we relocated to the north of the

island with our little family inner circle and stayed in a quiet farmhouse, withsimple excursions by day on paddle boats.
