    What Went Well?

    The following activities were conducted in a timely manner which saved a lot of lives in the previous

    flood of 2010.

    The malaria team started fogging in the affected areas and in the IDPs camps of flood affectedpeople.

    DTCs and CTCs were immediately established in DHQ Hospital Nowshera & MRHSM HospitalPabbi to treat diarrheal and cholera cases, with the cooperation of Merlin

    Special vaccination campaigns were arranged in various localities of District Nowshera to coverthe target population in IDP Camps.

    The Flood affected population were properly segregated and isolated in safe localities likeTehsildar office Pabbi , Cenna Public School Pabbi , Government Technical College Kander near

    Risalpur & Benazir Complex Risalpur.

    Good coordination with NGOs and INGOs, WHO Team was timely taken on board to assist the DHT in any outbreak control and technical

    guidance

    immediate relief to flood victims e.g.

    lack of clarity in supply chain management Weak Inventory control management system No reserve stock of medicine Reporting on DEWS No financial resources were available No arrangement of accommodation of staff moved from other districts POL for vehicles and foggers Lack of institutional arrangements of trained spray men

    Suggested:

    The overall responsibility of management and coordination would lie with Health & Nutrition

    Coordination Committee under overall supervision of EDO-Health. The Coordination Committee will

    comprise of District Officer Health, Deputy District Officers Health, PHS, DCNP, CDCO, DSV, DSI and

    representatives from UN Development partners with EDO-Health as Chairperson. District Health

    Department will keep close liaison with DDMA for overall guidance and mobilization of additional

    resources.

    The District Control Room (DCR) will start functioning w.e.f 15/06 2012 under the supervision of DCO

    Nowshera contact No. --------, which will function round the clock till directions from the DGHS office. At

    least one official will be available in this cell with telephone facility 24/7. The duty roster of the DCR is

    Declaration of emergency by DDMA will act as trigger to mobilize all mobile and static teams to already

    designated stations. The supply chain will be maintained to replenish the medicines and consumables on

    regular basis. District Team will coordinate with Provincial Team in case additional help or resources are

    required.
