Beat the Odds Scholarship
The Beat the Odds scholarship program honors outstanding high school students who have overcome tremendous adversity in life to achieve academic excellence, demonstrate leadership in their communities and aspire to attend college. Five
Minnesota students have been awarded the 2017 Beat the Odds Scholarship. Today we are pleased to recognize Kayla Cross and Kenneth Walton as two of those
students.
Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship
Tracy Shaffer has been selected as a recipient of a Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship. The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation College Scholarship Program is an undergraduate
scholarship program available to high-achieving high school seniors with financial need who seek to attend the nation’s best four-year colleges and universities. College
Scholars receive a scholarship, college planning support, ongoing advising, and the opportunity to network with the larger JKCF Scholar community. Up to 40 College
Scholars are selected for this program each year. Tracy will be attending the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities in the fall where she will be studying in the
College of Science and Engineering.
AXA Achievement Scholarship
Gysel Zangano Alvillar has been selected to be an AXA Achiever. She is the recipient of a scholarship. AXA Achievers are ethnically and economically diverse, but they share the following qualities: ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family and community, and the ability to success in college.

Winston Wallin Scholars Program Scholarships
Wallin Scholars receive up to $4,000 per year for four years (up to a maximum of $16,000) and the award can be used for any cost of attendance at an eligible college
or university (e.g., tuition, fees, books, room, board, etc) along with advising and college to career support. Non-profit four-year colleges and universities in MN and four neighboring states (WI, IA, ND, and SD) plus the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are eligible. Students from the Class of 2017 applied to and were accepted to many different colleges and universities. While Edison students are offered scholarships and grants
from more than one college or university, they can only accept college/university specific funds from the institution where they will be attending in addition to private
scholarships.
