WELCOME

Adam Knight

General Manager

It is with great pride I welcome you to my first season

as General Manager of the Edinburgh Playhouse.

They say ‘There’s No Business like Show Business’ and following

the record-breaking success of Disney’s The Lion King, we continue

to bring the very best of Broadway to Scotland’s favourite stage.

The smash hit 80s musical Rock of Ages makes way for a

pair of whip-crackingly classic musicals with Jodie Prenger as

Calamity Jane and Playhouse favourite Jason Donovan returning

in Irving Berlin’s Annie Get Your Gun.

Looking ahead, we are thrilled to present the Scottish premieres of

the multi award-winning hit Jersey Boys and Cameron Mackintosh

and Michael Harrison’s new production of the big-top musical Barnum,

which stars Brian Conley as the greatest showman on earth!

August sees us playing host to the Edinburgh International Festival

including world-class music and dance from Ladysmith Black

Mambazo and the world premiere of Inala; Lemi Ponifasio; the

Paco Peña Flamenco Company; and the legendary choreographer

Pina Bausch. Watch out too for details of our packed Fringe Festival

programme including Forth on the Fringe and the return of

Off The Kerb’s Comedy Gala in aid of Waverley Care.

85 years of headline performances on the Playhouse stage

will be celebrated through a very special concert from the young

company of our ever-popular Stage Experience which will be

accompanied by an exhibition of photographs and memories

of your favourite shows.

Our line up also includes performances by Russell Watson,

Burt Bacharach, Jon Richardson, Lee Mack, Omid Djalili; the

20th anniversary production of Irish dance sensation Riverdance

and Marie Jones’ Olivier Award-winning comedy Stones In

His Pockets amongst many others.

All this, plus the introduction of our delicious Afternoon Tea

served in the stylish surroundings of our luxury pre-show bar

and restaurant The Boards; our new Director’s Box VIP hospitality

packages available for all performances; and your chance to look

behind the scenes with our Theatre Tours means there really

is something for everyone at the Playhouse this Summer!

I look forward to meeting you.
