I walked up the stairs to tell my wife I was going for my morning walk and as I turned to go back downstairs my right leg suddenly buckled. It felt as if my enre leg had turned into liquid fire. I fell on the floor calling out for help, striving to find a posion, which would release me from this intense pain. Over the next 10 days my family and I baled with my situaon. This involved not being able to sleep – at all, unable to walk more than a few steps at a me without falling in pain, vising three hospitals, two emergency departments, driving 10 hours home to Lilydale and having major back surgery. Throughout this me, I intenonally relied on God by listening to Chrisan music, an audio Bible and connually speaking to Him and to my wife about my fears and how we were handling the situaon moment by moment. It took every bit of will power to cope and to believe that this horrible pain and challenging circumstances would end. However, there were several mes when I could not see past the cur- rent situaon – could not see tomorrow. I felt no hope. These mes were extremely traumac for my family. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)

T2—Week 8 - June 12 2019

Fast-forward seven weeks, and whilst my recovery is slower than we had hoped for, I am nearly back to full health. An important part of the healing process has been talking with a professional trauma counsellor. This has ensured that our recent memories do not turn into monuments of pain and trauma for life. We were advised to discuss and write down each traumatic event, then list things that we were thankful for and anything which was humorous during this time. We were also encouraged to sit down with our children and other family members to hear their related experience and to answer any questions that they may have. This process

has helped our family healing immensely. I am now able to look back through the traumatic events and clearly see how God was with me in each and every pain-ful moment – even in

the hopeless times. While God may not have released me from the pain in the way I would have preferred, He was always present, assisting my family through each situation by giving us what we needed for that very moment and by showing us at times that He had gone ahead to arrange the next step. In short, God has grown my family through this traumatic experience because we invited Him to be Lord over our problems, our concerns and our hopelessness.

On behalf of my family I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the Edinburgh College community for your prayers, food drops, cards of encouragement and general support. THANK YOU!

Relying on God Through Everything

During the last term break, my family enjoyed a week at Conjurong Point visiting my wife’s parents and taking in the

autumn beauty and warm ocean water of the South NSW coast. On our second last day, my son and I were enjoying a late afternoon surf at a little beach near Mollymook. As I rode down a beautiful clear wave my back twisted awkwardly. There wasn’t

any pain, I could move and stretch so I kept enjoying the waves. The next morning, my back was slightly sore. I walked up the stairs to tell my wife I was going for my morning walk and as I turned to go back downstairs my right leg suddenly buckled. It felt as if my entire leg had turned into liquid fire. I fell on the floor calling out for help, striving to find a position, which would release me from this intense pain. Over the next 10 days my family and I battled with my situation. This involved not being able to sleep – at all, unable to walk more than a few steps at a time without falling in pain,

visiting three hospitals, two emergency departments, driving 10 hours home to Lilydale and having major back surgery. Throughout this time, I intentionally relied on God by listening to Christian music, an audio Bible and continually speaking to Him and to my wife about my fears and how we were

handling the situation moment by moment. It took every bit of will power to cope and to believe that this horrible pain and challenging circumstances would end. However, there were several times when I could not see past the cur-rent situation – could not see tomorrow. I felt no hope. These times were extremely traumatic for my family.

So do not fear,

for I am with you;

do not be dismayed,

for I am your God.

I will strengthen you and

help you;

I will uphold you with my

righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)

VCE Legal Studies Excursion

VCE Legal Studies students went into the city to learn

about the work of the Supreme Court of Victoria. They

heard from The Honourable Justice Karin Emerton of the

Supreme Court and

witnessing a jury

empaneling and a

sentencing.

Students also

visited the

Melbourne

Mountain Biking into Winter Mountain biking has proven a popular summer sport choice

at Edinburgh over the past decade. However, the dry and

mostly balmy start to winter has seen the students keen to

continue instead of having the usual winter break. Students

have endured a few very cold days and with the added wind

chill, the thermometer has proven that the students are

‘BUILDING RESILIENCE’. Our track network is expanding,

with help from Mr Pascoe and Mr Wareham. Students have

also assisted in marking out some new tracks on the long

downhill run

below the oval.

The novices are

learning new

riding skills,

while the more

experienced

riders are be-

coming adept

at coaching

them, as well as doing their own time trials and practising

downhill skills. Students from Years 7 to 10 have been en-

joying the new bikes, and keeping them clean. Thanks to Mr

Ridley who has been helping with some bike maintenance

and Mrs Anderson who has fixed a few punctures with the

first aid kit . - Mr Brooks

Science Enrichment Program Students from

Chirnside Park

Primary visited

Edinburgh last

week to participate

in the Science

Enrichment

Program. Mr Croft

called on Year 7

students to help

instruct and

supervise the

experiments.

They did an

excellent job.

From the ELC Bush Kinder

Bush Kinder is a weekly occurrence for the 3 & 4 Year Old

Kinder rooms. The outings utilise the beautiful 40 acre

Edinburgh campus. During the winter Bush Kinder

rotations, there is a special treat of roasting marshmal-

lows in front of an open campfire! We believe that being

outdoors and being fully immersed in the experience of

play is best for children – taking risks, building confidence

and instilling a sense of adventure in the everyday.

Fire Safety

Officers from the local Mooroolbark Brigade recently

visited the ELC to teach the 3 and 4 Year Old Kinder

groups about fire safety and to show off their brand new

tanker. We may have some very keen little CFA recruit

firefighters.

Thanks to the Mooroolbark officers for sharing some

helpful tips about fire safety in the home.

PB4L Values Awards (Primary) This week the students

are again focusing on

the value of FAIRNESS.

Next week’s focus will

be on HONESTY.

Lunchtime Basketball Competition Heating Up For three of the teams, this week’s game will be the last. Four teams will go through to the final, and after Week 6, there are five teams hunting four spots - and yes, two of them will be meeting this Thursday. Team Tarkyn defeated Team Aimee last week to get within strik-ing distance of fourth spot and a playoff berth. They will line up against Team Chambo, who are one win ahead, but equal on points for and against, so that finals spot is defi-nitely on the line. Last week Chambo had to patch togeth-er half a team to play a depleted Team Jarvis, who held on to their top spot with a comfortable win. Team Balaz knocked off Team Tom to secure second spot on the ladder. This game was notable for a captain’s dunk.

Creative Photo Shoot on Campus Tomorrow between 8:30 and 3:30pm photographers will be on campus to take photos for marketing purposes. Students are requested to wear their full winter uniform.
