Memphis has won 14 of 16 and four consecutive series. Albuquerque sits 1.5 games back of Salt Lake in its division. Today’s game will be broadcast on Sports56 and 87.7 FM and internet webcast at MemphisRedbirds.com, with Steve Selby on the call. ON THE HILL: Tyler Lyons returns to Memphis for his second MLB rehab stint of the year and fourth appearance with the Redbirds. The southpaw was placed on the Disabled List with a right intercostal strain on May 2. He made one rehab start with Single-A Peoria on May 10, allowing two runs on four hits in 2.2 innings. Lyons began the year with three rehab starts for Memphis while recovering from offseason right knee surgery. Albuquerque will counter with righthander Matt Flemer in the series opener. Flemer is coming off a rough outing in his last appearance on Tuesday against Las Vegas. He lasted five frames, but gave up season-highs in runs (8) and hits (11). Flemer split time last year between the Isotopes bullpen and rotation, facing Memphis in a relief role on July 14 and earning a win (4.1 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, BB, 4 K). SCHEDULE WITH ALBUQUERQUE: The Redbirds and Isotopes meet for their only series of the 2017 season. Last year, Memphis was swept in a four-game set in Albuquerque by a combined score of 38-27. Overall, the Redbirds have dropped seven of eight to the Isotopes in the last two years, including three of four in Albuquerque’s last trip to AutoZone Park in 2015. Memphis has struggled with Rockies affiliates recently, winning just one of the last five season sets dating back to time in Colorado Springs. THIS DATE IN REDBIRDS HISTORY (May 15, 2008): RF Joe Mather hit a walk-off, two-run home run in the 12th inning to give Memphis a 6-4 win over Oklahoma. THE SEASON ABOUT THE LAST ONE: Chad Huffman’s pinch-hit two-run single surged the Redbirds ahead in the bottom of the eighth to give Memphis a back-and-forth 6-5 victory. The Redbirds had taken the lead with a four-run seventh thanks to a Nick Martini two-run double and Luke Voit tow-run homer. Marco Gonzales was stellar in his return to Memphis, allowing only one run on three hits in seven innings of work. MEMPHIS MASHERS: The Redbirds have made their power presence known at the plate, connecting on a league-leading 45 home runs entering today’s game, including 26 in the past 17 contests. The Redbirds have reassumed the top spot on the PCL leaderboard and are second in all of MiLB (Jackson, Arizona AA, 46). The Redbirds are way ahead of their pace from a season ago when the squad did not hit its 45th homer until game 67, which came on June 19. IN A PINCH: Chad Huffman’s pinch-hit single yesterday was just the sixth hit for a Memphis pinch hitter this season. It also marked the first multi-RBI base knock for a pinch hitter and second and third overall RBI’s from a player in that spot. WINNING THEM CLOSE: Yesterday’s one-run win improved Memphis’ to 7-1 in games decided by the slimmest of margins, the best mark in the PCL. It was a rare close game as the Redbirds have had 17 games decided by greater than three runs, the fourth-most in the league. REDBIRDS VS. THE GAMETODAY’S GAME: The Memphis Redbirds continue an eight-game homestand with the first of four against the Albuquerque Isotopes (Rockies). Memphis has won 14 of 16 and four consecutive series.

HOME COOKING: Memphis has played only 16 contests at AutoZone Park so far this year, the third-fewest in the league. The Redbirds just completed a stretch with 16 of 21 games on the road, but will now play 19 of the next 31 in the Bluff City.

The Redbirds have made the most of their brief time at home, posting 59 extra-base hits, including 24 home runs. The Redbirds hit 49 homers all of last season at home.

The last nine home games have increased the team’s batting average at home by 80 points to .282. Memphis is slugging 52 points better at home (.494) compared to on the road (.442).

OFFENSIVE OASIS: Memphis’ offense has reached new heights over the past two weeks, pounding out 115 runs on 196 hits for a .323 team average in the last 17 games. The team’s average has increased 41 points during the 16 contests from .237 to .278.

The Redbirds have scored at least four runs in their last 10 victories and 14 of their last 17 games overall. Memphis is 17-1 when scoring at least five runs in a game this year.

Prior to this stretch, Memphis had reached double-digit hits in just six of its first 20 games, something it has now done in 13 of the last 17 games. The ‘Birds have at least six hits in 16 of their last 17 (1 hit in rain-shortened 5-inning win on 4/29). In the stretch, Memphis has 38 doubles, eight triples, and 26 homers, good for a .540 team slugging percentage.

EXTRA, EXTRA: The Redbirds have posted 352 hits thus far this year, including 134 extra-base hits (79 doubles, 10 triples, 45 home runs), which is second in the PCL (Reno, 136). The Redbirds have vaulted to sixth in the league in hitting (.278), and rank second in total bases (586) and slugging percentage (.463).

STARTING OUT QUICK: The Redbirds have scored 24 runs in the first inning and 25 runs in the second inning of games, which are their two most fruitful frames of the season.

Memphis has scored first in 23 of its initial 37 games this season, which is the most in the PCL. The Redbirds have struck first in nine of their last 13 games and are now 15-8 overall in those contests, which is the eighth-best mark in the league. Albuquerque is a robust 12-4 when scoring the game’s first run, the third-best record in the loop.

The Redbirds have scored the game’s final run 17 times and are league-best 15-2 in such games.

RUN, RUN, RUNAWAY: The Redbirds are 16-for-38 in steal attempts and have been picked off 11 times. The 22 caught stealings are the most in the PCL, with no other squad having been caught more than 17 times (Salt Lake, 49-for-66 and Nashville, 18-for-35). Memphis has not stolen a base since 5/6 at Iowa.

TURNED UP TO ELEVEN: Memphis posted a franchise-record 11-game winning streak from April 28 - May 8. The Redbirds outscored opponents 81-38 during the run, scoring at least four runs nine times and limiting the opponent to two runs or fewer

on seven occasions. Memphis dominated on both sides of the diamond, hitting .330 with 19 homers over the stretch while averaging 7.4 runs per game. On the mound, Redbird pitchers posted a 3.43 ERA.

The wins came in a variety of ways for Memphis, with seven of the 11 decided by three runs or fewer, five victories coming from behind, three last at-bat triumphs, and two wins in extra innings.

MEMPHIS PLAYERS AND COACHESREHABBING: Jhonny Peralta joined the Redbirds yesterday, continuing his Major League rehab for an upper respiratory illness. He has been on the Disabled List since April 20 with the ailment and played the first part of his MLB rehab with Advanced-A Palm Beach last weekend from May 5-7, going 2-for-8 with four strikeouts.

Tyler Lyons joins him today for his second rehab stint with Memphis this season. He is been on the DL since May 2 with a right intercostal strain and last appeared with Single-A Peoria on May 10.

THE KELLY FILE: Carson Kelly has caught 14 of the last 17 games for Memphis and the steady playing time has brought out the best in his offensive ability. In his last nine games, he has recorded six multi-hit contests and increased his average 99 points to .323 (17-for-35, .486, 5 2B, HR, 9 R, 8 RBI).

Defensively, Kelly has thrown out seven of 19 would-be base stealers, the fourth-best mark in the league.

SHAKEN, NOT STIRRED: Nick Martini has been red-hot since joining the Redbirds from Double-A Springfield on May 5. He has safely hit in seven of his first eight games and tallied four multi-hit affairs. Five of his 13 hits have gone for extra bases and he has already scored 10 runs with at least one in six of his eight contests.

Overall, Martini has reached safely in 17 of his 33 plate appearances for a .515 on-base percentage.

EN FUEGO: Breyvic Valera was a revelation for Memphis a year ago, hitting .341 in 73 games. After a slow start to this year (.193 through 15 games), Valera has found his stroke in his last 15 outings, going 22-for-54 (.407, 2 2B, 5 3B, 10 R, 3 RBI).

Valera has seven multi-hit games in his last 15 contests after doing so just once in his first 15 games. Last year, he tied for second on the team with 20 multi-hit games. Valera saw his season-long 11-game hitting streak come to an end yesterday (17-for-40, .425, 5 3B, 7 R, 2 RBI).

VOIT OF CONFIDENCE: The St. Louis Cardinals tabbed Luke Voit as the organization’s Minor League Player of the Month for April, his second straight month winning the award (August ‘16 with Springfield). Voit hit .360 with five homers and 16 RBI in 23 April games.

But a change in the calendar has not slowed him down. Voit is hitting .347 in May with three homers and 10 RBI in 11 games. He currently ranks among league leaders in total bases (80, t-3), SLG (.645, 4th), OBP (.437, 4th), and average (.355, 7th).

BADER BOMBS: Harrison Bader launched two home runs on Thursday night, marking his third career multi-homer game. It continued a recent string of hit hitting for the prospect outfielder, who has collected 7 multi-hit games in his last 15 contests (19-for-61, .311, 4 2B, 4 HR, 12 R, 9 RBI).

He has certainly enjoyed the friendly confines of AutoZone Park, hitting five of his six homers at home.

CLEAR THE DE-CK: Paul DeJong ranked second in the Cardinals system last year with 22 homers and has brought his power to Triple-A this year. The infielder is tied for the team lead with eight homers, seven of which have come in his last 15 games. During that time, DeJong has collected 17 RBI, highlighted by four multi-RBI games in his last seven. He had just one homer and six RBI in his first 19 games of the year before finding his recent success. HE IS ONE WITH THE FORCE: Opening Day starter Luke Weaver missed 22 games with a back injury, but it has not slowed him down at all. In four starts this season, Weaver has allowed one run and walked one batter in 22 innings of work. His season-opening scoreless streak was snapped at 19.2 innings with a solo homer in the fifth inning on Saturday.

Weaver was named the PCL Pitcher of the Week last week after combining to throw 13 scoreless frames against Omaha and Iowa.

STRIKING NEW GROUND: Arturo Reyes has provided an unexpected mastery at the top of the Redbirds rotation considering he began the year in a piggyback role behind MLB rehabber Tyler Lyons.

Thanks to his strong seven-inning outing yesterday, Reyes is now tied for the league lead in wins (5). He is also third in WHIP (0.91), fourth in opponents’ average (.185), and seventh in ERA (2.12).

PROSPECTING: The Cardinals organization has seen a steady growth in its prospect ranking the last three years, elevating from 15th to 14th to 12th this season, according to Baseball America. While top prospect Alex Reyes is sidelined for the season, six of the top 30 prospects tabbed by the publication are currently on the Redbirds roster. That includes Luke Weaver (#2), Carson Kelly (#4), Harrison Bader (#7), Marco Gonzales (#13), Paul DeJong (#14), and Breyvic Valera (#29).

THE ROSTER: Of the 24 players who comprise Memphis’ active roster (not counting MLB rehabs), 20 appeared at Triple-A last season, be it with Memphis or another organization. Of those who played at Triple-A, 13 donned a Redbirds uniform. Additionally, the roster is full of Major League experience with nine players combining for 213 games played.
