Updated Field Design
Edgewood Recreation Center
Advantages of Synthetic Turf:
1. Increased playability and access: • DPR’s grass fields were closed over 150 days last year because of rain / wet fields.
Synthetic field offers 3 times as much playability with more recreation opportunities for people with disabilities and physical challenges
• The opportunity to be active and participate in sports is critical for the fitness, mental health, self-esteem and leadership development our youth.
• DPR will be purposeful about permitting. Community time will be built in.
2. Safe playing surface: • No more divots caused by play or holes from insects that burrow into the surface. • No more bare spots caused by over use. • Research has concluded that the injury risk of playing on artificial turf is no greater than
playing on natural grass.
3. Environmental awareness: • It doesn’t require fertilizer, pesticides, water, or gas-powered tools to thrive. • It serves as a bio-retention area. Water infiltrates as opposed to flowing into sewers. • One full-size synthetic sports field saves 500,000 to 1,000,000 gallons of water annually.
