Two years, two months and five days – that’s how

long it took to build the Eiffel Tower, with construction

beginning in 1887, finishing in May 1889.

So, how did people change their minds

about it?

It was the tallest building ever built at that time. This made French people proud.

Its structure is unique, being strong but looking gracious and light.

Made of metal, not stone, it has become one of the symbol of the Modern World.

Even though it weighs 10 000 tons, it puts no more pressure on the ground than a man’s foot!

This is because of its efficient design, with its wide feet.
