...TO AUTUMN 2014 WITH EDEN COURT CREATIVE!Wow,what an incredible summer we’ve had! Between our Dance Trail and Dance-alongMovie eventsthat took over Inverness at the start ofJune, the Ragtime Picnics that brought some 1920’s glitz andglamour to castle estates all over the Highlands and our Commonwealth Flashmob Relay (whichmade itas far as Canada!) we’ve been jumping and jiving all summer long–a huge thank you to every one of youwho came along and got involved.

Going into the autumn,we’re barely stopping to take a breath.We have a brand new art class starting,Let’s Draw (p21), as well the newString Training Ensemble (p20) class that’s hoping to work alongsideDrama Lab (p19) to collaborate on a special performance at the end of the year.

Also, following the sell-out success of our take on Alice TheMusical, we’re very excited to be addingLAMDA: Musical Theatre (p18) to the selection of existing LAMDA classes on offer, it’s a greatopportunity to develop your talents and have fun. If you fancy throwing some shapes,we’ll be carryingon with our popularStreet Dance classes (p14 & p16) and we’ve shuffled our under-5’s classes rounda little bit to fit in with new nursery times–keep an eye out forMusic Express (p10) which is now onFridays and has been a real hit as well.

Special Events this term include the week longStreet Theatre Festival Workshop (p7), which givesyou the opportunity to perform at the Inverness Street Theatre Festival in the October holidays andbefore that there’s Fèis Dràma Dheugairean (p6), a celebration ofGaelic Youth Theatre featuringperformance from three local drama groups.

Why did you want to become anAmbassador?I have always been passionate about the arts,sowhen the opportunity arose, I jumped at the chance.TheECCAschemealso allowedme tomeet lots ofothers as interested in the arts as I am,somethingnot possible inmy tiny school.

What do you enjoy about working with Eden Court CREATIVE?The access to opportunities at EdenCourtCREATIVE are a key benefit ofbeing part of it, I love being in the loop,and knowingthat I'mactually doing somethingworthwhile for the arts inmy area.

What kind ofchallenges have you experienced as anAmbassador?The challenge ofgetting people to noticewhat I was doingwas initially daunting,but throughword-of-mouth,schoolannouncements and a very colourful arts board, I think I'mgetting there! Somepeople have an opposition to the arts in general,thinking it’s only forwimps,not knowing all the different opportunities available to them.To overcome this you just have tomakeeverything as approachable as possible!

What has been your favourite moment as anAmbassador?I think it’s a toss-up between the first ever time someone approachedmeabout something onmynotice board,orwhen Imet allthe otherCREATIVEAmbassadors at ameeting inApril. It was great to know Iwas part ofsomething big!

What other opportunities does Eden Court offer you?Not only doesEdenCourt provide lots ofopportunities to see somegreat shows, it has provided amazingworkshops and reallycool festivals such asConnections inApril (something I've done twice and I loved!). EdenCourt always has something reallyexciting going on,and is an amazing place just to be part of!

What do you like most about your job?I have been in post now for 18months and looking back on that time I have experienced somewonderful andexciting times. I have touredwith street theatre,workedwith professional artists,supported teachers inCurriculumForExcellence delivery,devised projects,producedmusic theatre,and tutored classes.The listgoes on.The diversity and variety ofwhatwedo is phenomenal and I love being a part ofthat.Oneweek I can

beworkingwithmy youth theatre inNairn, the nextweekworkingwith children in schools on a specific project or sensory playwith babies or directingGnomes in a greenhouse (thatwas fun)!

What’s the most difficult thing about your job?Fitting it all in and ofcourse there's the admin side.But someone's gotta do it, right? I wouldn't change it for theworld.Not onlyam I able to provide opportunities but I also get themmyself.Last year I got tomeetmy all timeMusical Theatre legend -RuthieHenshall.Aquick email to her tourmanager through the powers that be here atCREATIVE towers and the next thing shewas inmyMusicTheatreClass giving advice and chatting to the kids - such a generous,down to earthwomen.

What events are you looking forward to?I'm looking forward to theUnder 5’s show this year.Very excited to get on the floor and start devisingwithmy colleagues. Iworked as a set builder on last year’s production and itwas somuch fun and it's a greatwarmth to be part ofsomething somagical atChristmas time!Also, I have a fantastic, talented group ofteensworking on a newscript forNational TheatreConnections Festival 2015 - so that's definitely one to look out for.

TheEdenCourtCollective are a company of16-25 year olds fromEdenCourtCREATIVE youth theatres all across theHighlands, fromThurso to Inverness! SinceMay 2014,we have beenworkingwith theHighlander’sMuseumto research theirpersonal and local stories ofthewars fromthe last hundred yearswhich haveremainedmostly hidden to history. ACenturyUntold is based on these collected tales.

As part ofthe projectwehave also produced an exhibition ofour researchwhichwillbe launched at this event. Entrance to the exhibition is includedwith your free ticketandwill be open from20.30 after the performance.Wewill also be creating onlineresources for schools and a documentary ofour processwhichwill be available onlinefromJanuary 2015.
