What is Edeball

Edeball is a game created to facilitate sport

initiation. It was developed in the CatholicUniversity of Valencia in 1998 on the subjectTeam sports.

Since then we have explored their educativepossibilities. It has been published in differentjournals and congresses.

Divided Court EdeballBasic description of the game

It is based on getting more points than the other team.

The court is divided in two equal halves. Players from oneteam cant enter in the field of the other team.

One team gets a point when the ball is thrown to the otherteam field and goes trough a 30 cm height goal set at the far

end line of it. Also is point when the other team fails playingthe ball.

Players from the same team may give three hits to the ballbefore sending it to the other team field.

Divided Court EdeballThe ball

It should be a polymer or foam ball, the same size than asenior handball ball.

The keys to choose the right ball : It doesnt have to ache when be hit It doesnt have to rebound too much

Divided Court EdeballThe court

Is a rectangle of 20x10m. (as long as wide is a handballcourt), divided in two halves of 10x10m.

It can be also used a volleyball court of 18x9m, divided intwo halves of 9x9.

There may be used other courts (gymnasium, etc.) with walls

in someone of their lines. In this case if the ball reboundagainst the ball after touching the court the play continues.

How to play the ball

The throws

When the ball goes out after rolling or bouncing in the field: Oneplayer must throw-in the ball hitting it behind his knee meanwhile

his foot is on the line where the ball went out.

After point and at the beginning of each time: One player must tothrow-in the ball hiting it behind his knee meanwhile his foot is onthe far end line of the team.

Progression to volleyball initiation

The middle line:

An elastic band may be placed over it, increasing progressively its height.

The goal:

It may be translated to the field. First: It will be a point if the ball bounce in a

goal area of 2x10 m, located at the end of the team field


There may be allowed only two, one or zero bounds of the ball on the field

between the team hits.

Basic description of the game.

The aim of the game is performing more points than the other team, running

the players freely over the court.

A point is scored when the ball is sended to the goal of the other team.

4 players of each team cant perform more than 4 consecutive hits to the

ball before throwing it to the other team goal.

Players from the opponent team may intercept the ball at any moment.

The ball cant be caught, only hit.

Each team only can hit the ball until four times straight off

mximo.

Any player may intercept a pass or throw in any moment. Inthis case he can hit a second time the ball. To the other teamhits a player cant hit to consecutive times de ball.

Infringements and punishments

It is not allowed:

To catch or keep the ball. To catch or hit the opponent. To hit the ball with the foot or leg, with the exception of thefirst team hit if the foot is on the floor.

These action will be punished with a free throw from the placewhere they where performed. Players from the opposite teammust be at least at 15 m. away of the ball.

How to play the ballIt may be allowed as many hits of the ball as the team may perform

It may be allowed to catch the ball, without runing with it ,or later to cath the

ball and running with it until being touched by a player of the other team.
