1.EXT. A MUD HUT . EVE

From a blank screen with a background sound suggesting a heavydownpour of rain a title appears "".

Fade in on an extreme close up of a woman's eye. A tear rollsdown her cheek and camera follows the tear drop.Suddenly aslash of rain hits her face. Cut from extreme close up to a

mid-shot.Her hair and face are drenched with rain water mixingwith her tears. She doesn't move.Just fixed her looks in tonothingness.

She is RAMA a 23-25 year old young sensuous woman in her royalblue saree. Siting on the elevated place in the right side ofcourt yard of the hut.

Along with another whiff of air along with rain slashing onRama's face the hut door opens with a big sound. A skinny andwicked looking old woman in her 70's walks out. Rushes towardsher left where sarees are hanging on a thread for drying.Theold woman is in her white saree and not wearing a blouse.

Old woman picks up the sarees and turns back to look at Ramairritatingly murmuring within herself.Rama is still lookinglost. From Rama's left, from a foggy rain we could see avillage at a distance.

Old woman walks past Rama looking insistently for herresponse. Stops at the door and turns back to look at Rama whois still looking away.

Old woman walks towards Rama and says...

OLD WOMAN ! ...

Rama doesn't respond. Old woman walks up to her and touchesRama's shoulder and says...

OLD WOMAN()

. !

Rama looks at the old woman and her hand on the shoulder witha hint of disapproval. Old woman withdraws her hand.

OLD WOMAN( )

, ! ..

Old woman turns back to go in to the door. Just turns her headand says...

OLD WOMAN !

Rama without looking at the old woman says...

RAMA .

Old woman shakes her head with disapproval and steps in to thedoor. Stops again and asks...

OLD WOMAN !

RAMA(irritatingly)

.

A lightening falls and a thunder roars at a distance.

Old woman goes in to house murmuring.

OLD WOMAN(murmuring)

...

Rama continues to look at the rain. From the edge of the roofwater is dripping like tears. Windows shutter with wind.Ramawipes tears from her eyes. Ties up the untied hair. Her faceis now clearly seen.She takes her saree pallu to wipe her facerevealing her healthy breasts in her white blouse.

Rama gets up and walks up to the steps and stops to look atthe rain drops falling from edge of the roof. Puts her bothhand and collects rain water and looks at it. Her reflectionis hardly visible in the water and slowly water drains out

from her hand.

Suddenly next to Rama is the old woman with a steaming tea ina silver/aluminum glass. Rama is taken a back at once. Looksat the old woman.

OLD WOMAN(convincingly in a soft tone)

. . !,

....Old woman hands over glass to Rama.Rama takes the glass andhold it with two hands feeling the warmth of the glass. closesher eyes and sips once.

Looking at Rama's closed eyes old woman continues to speak.

OLD WOMAN(smiling wickedly with a coarsetone)

?. , . , .

Rama's eyes are red with anger and lips tumbling.She drops thetea glass on to floor.

RAMA(angrily)

!

Rama turns from there and goes back to where she was sittingearlier. Old woman looks on to her and looks at the fallenglass. Picks the glass up and says...

OLD WOMAN(angry tone)

. . !

Takes the glass and moves towards Rama and menacingly looks atRama..Rama is still looking away in to the roof in tearfuleyes.

OLD WOMAN... . . . , . .

Rama suddenly turn towards Old woman with a petrified face.

Hands are shaking and eyes are puffed with an unbelievablefear.

RAMA(disappointingly)

....! .

OLD WOMAN(in a gradually raising tone)

, ! ? . . ? . ! . . . .

Rama's face is shivering with anger. Turns towards Old womanand almost moves towards her as if to beat her up. Old womansteps back with fear. Rama looks at her closely andhysterically holds old woman's neck and shouts at her.

RAMA..! . .

Rama leaves the old woman and falls down on floor crying.Oldwoman escapes from Rama and walks away in to the door. Whilegoing old woman says..

OLD WOMAN(angrily)

. , . ...

Rama is on floor crying, her tears rolling on the floor.Camera moves away from her to extreme long shot. She is lyingin an odd shape on the red floor in her blue saree as if adry flower is placed in the middle of a dessert.

Evening is turning in to night. The little light that isaround is vanishing.

FADE BLACK

2.EXT. VARANDA OF THE MUD HUT NIGHT

FADE IN

Old woman comes out of the door with a lamp in hand. Lightspreads across the varanda.Old woman has a shawl on hershoulder. Rama is still lying on the floor senseless.It isstill raining. Only the sound of rain is heard heavily in thedark night around.

Old woman approaches Rama. Places the lap near Rama's face.

Rama's face is clearly seen. The dried tears have formed lineson her cheeks.Her hair is loosened and covering her face. Withthe falling light on her face, Rama forcefully opened her eyesand looked at the Old woman.

OLD WOMAN ?

RAMA.

Old woman takes out the shawl and extends it to Rama.

OLD WOMAN.... .

Rama while getting up takes the shawl and holds it close toher heart and rubs her face with it. A crying babies sound isposted on to the screen as the camera moves close to Rama'sclose up. Rama is trying to feel the shawl with a face as ifto recollect a memory.

Old woman looks at Rama and let's out a sigh.

OLD WOMAN . .(Looking outside)...

Old woman leaves the lamp there and goes in to the hut. Asmall light can be seen from in side of the hut through thedoor.

Rama looks at the darkness out side. Some showers of rain islashing on to the floor. Rama is looking down at the flashingwater. Suddenly a strange man's voice is heard.

JAGANNATH!

Rama startled a bit but settles back in to look at thedirection where the voice is heard.

A 28-30 year old man steps in from the dark with an umbrellaon his left arm and a small suitcase in the right. As the lampis placed on the floor his face is not clearly visible.

JAGANNATH

...

?

There is a change in Rama's expression and lends her earcarefully to listen to the stranger and puts a step forward tosee the man.

JAGANNATH...

RAMA...

JAGANNATH

?

RAMA .

JAGANNATH! , .

RAMA.

. .. .

JAGANNATH ! ... ?!

Rama tries to listen to his voice carefully and pikes up thelamp in her hand. The stranger comes forward. His face is halfvisible.

RAMA

(as if she is talking toherself)

JAGANNATH. ....

Rama makes an expression as if she recognized the voice andexcitingly lifts up the lamp to see his face.The strangersteps forward...

JAGANNATH(continues...)

RAMA?

Rama is carefully examining the stranger. Her eyes are sharpand forehead is forming folds as if to force a forgottenmemory to come back.

JAGANNATH

. .

RAMA(huridly)

?

JAGANNATH. .

Rama disappointingly steps back. The stranger steps forward.

He is now clearly visible. An average looking but strong man.All his cloths are wet and his hair is dripping with water. Heis trying to push his falling hair back and smiling at Rama.

He could clearly see disappointment in Rama's eyes.

JAGANNATH. ?

RAMA()

. .

JAGANNATH...

RAMA(as if talking to herself)

. ...

JAGANNATH(with a concern in his voice)

... .Rama looks at him and tries to smile.

RAMA

RAMA . ?

The old woman comes from the hut. Looks at the stranger.

OLD WOMAN

?

RAMA ! . .

Jagannath looks at Rama with a surprise. Rama looks at him asif she is making up her mind.

RAMA(confidently)

. . . .

Jagannath looks embarrassed.

JAGANNATH. . .

RAMA(trying to be normal)

..! . . . .

Jagannath steps forward and places his suitcase down. Oldwoman looks at Rama and picks up the suitcase.

OLD WOMAN?

JAGANNATH, ! ..

RAMA(authoritatively)

... .

Old woman left the place. Rama invited Jagannath in to home byleading.

RAMA

Jagannath follows her.

FADE BLACK

3.INT. IN THE HUT NIGHT.

FADE IN

Jagannath is sitting in front of a served meal on a bananaleaf.Old woman is serving him hot rice. Jagannath's eyes are

searching for Rama.

Old woman serves rice and looks at him.Tries to initiate atalk but stops from it by looking at the next room door.Jagannath observes that and he too looks at the door. Rama whois sitting near the door lights up a lamp next to her.

Rama is looking fresh and in her white saree with redblouse.Bright red bindi on her forehead is glowing. Her losehair is covering half of her face, but her eyes are fixed onJagannath. Jagannath couldn't take his eyes off her.

FADE BLACK

4.INT. BED ROOM IN THE HUT . NIGHT

Jagannath is hesitantly sitting on a bed. Next to his bed is atable in which pan is artistically arranged in a silverplate.Next to it is a brightly light lamp. An old arm chair iskept in front of the bed.

Jagannath shook his head in disbelief. A faint smile comes onhis face as flash of Rama's memory comes to him.

Suddenly there is a sound of anklets and bangles.Jagannathlooks at the door as Rama walks in. He gets up from bedwelcoming her.

JAGANNATH. . . .

Rama shyly smiles at Jagannath.And sits opposite him on thechair.

RAMA

JAGANNATH(apologetically)

RAMA. . .

Rama uncomfortably is moving in the chair. Jagannath sensingthe discomfort starts talking to humor her.

JAGANNATH

Rama inquisitively looks at him seeking the answer.

RAMA.

JAGANNATH. . ...

RAMA.... .. !

JAGANNATH... , . . .. ....

RAMA...

JAGANNATH. . . .

Lamp next to the bed starts flickering. Rama moves restless inthe chair as she hears about the death. She rearranges herpallu.Jagannath moves a bit forward towards Rama. A sound near

the door is heard. Jagannath withdraws. Rama looks at the doorand says..

RAMA...!

OLD WOMAN ...

RAMA?

OLD WOMAN!?

Rama get's up and goes towards the door. Opens it. Sees theOld woman standing there placing her ear to the door. Ramalooks at her irritatingly..

RAMA....

Rama comes back and sits in the same chair. Leans forwardtowards Jagannath.Jagannath is looking at the roof andlistening to the sound of rain. Suddenly asks...

JAGANNATH?

Rama moved back and bends her head down. Jagannath tries tosee her face feelings but fails.

JAGANNATH(continues...)

. , !

Rama

.

JAGANNATH(yawning)

. ?

Rama get's up with a jiff. Jagannath's looks at her concerned,assuming that he has offended her. She walking away from theresays...

RAMA

. , .

Jagannath looks on to her as she walks away and vanishes in tothe door. At a distance a thunder roar is heard. It is stillraining and the sound can be heard. Jagannath lye down on thebed adjusting the pillow and looks at the roof.

In a flash we show brightly light Rama's face, her toe rubbingthe floor.Her eyes...screen goes blank.

5.INT. BED ROOM. NIGHT

Screen is still dark door sound it heard and a heavy breath ofa man. From the POV of sleeping Jagannath Rama walking fromthe door with a glass in her hand wrapped up in her pallu isseen.

Jagannath slowly opens his eyes concealing from Rama andobserves her.

Rama walks up to him and places the glass next to histable.Calls him out...

RAMA...

Jgannath didn't move. Rama picks up the lamp and brings nearto his face and examines a mark on the forehead.Jagannathmoves a bit. Rama steps back.

JAGANNATH(opening his eyes)

!...

Rama lowers her head and puts back the lamp on table and picks

up the glass and offers him.

RAMA. .

Jagannath picks up the glass and puts to his mouth and removesit for a second and says...

JAGANNATH..

RAMA

, !

Jagannath drinks milk and places the glass at the table.

JAGANNATH(as if talking to himself)

. .

Rama looks at him empathetical. He looks back at her. Boththeir eyes are locked in to each other for a while. Jagannathobserves her face and body.

Jagannath's breath becomes heavy.Rama's cheeks turn red andeyes are lowered shy.An uneasy silence exists.Jagannathbreaking the silence.

JAGANNATH.

RAMA

.JAGANNATH

She looks at curiously observing Jagannath and adjust herpallu.

RAMA

(continues...) . . .

Disappointment is clearly visible on Jagannath's face.He looksat Rama pleadingly and says...

JAGANNATH. , .

RAMA(laughs)

RAMA .

Jagannath smiles teasingly..

Jagannath is uncomfortable and silent for a minute.And thansays carefully looking at Rama

JAGANNATH...!

...Rama looks at him sympathatically.

JAGANNATH......

Both look at each other and smile.

JAGANNATH.... .

RAMA!?

JAGANNATH..

.At once Rama gets up from her chair and comes close toJagannath and says...

RAMA(whisperingly)

...

Jagannath doesn't listen to Rama, he is speaking as if he isin a trans looking at the darkness of the window.

As the war like music and sounds are forming in the backdrop.Jagannath starts speaking in a raised voice.

JAGANNATH, . ,

Rama suddenly holds his shoulders and says..

RAMA .. . .

Jagannath looked at her. Rama's face is extremely close tohim. He could see her eyes filled with tears and concern inher eyes. He held Rama's face in his palm.

JAGANNATH...

RAMA... .

JAGANNATH!

...Fear in Rama's eyes. She tries to escape from him. takes offhis hands and moves away from the bed. In a hysterical tone...

RAMA. . . .

Rama runs in to the adjacent room almost running covering hercrying face.

Shocked Jagannath is sitting bewildered on the bed.Intensity

of the rain has slowed down. Frogs are making strange noises.

He slowly pulls up the pillow and lye down diagonally to thebed.Clock on the wall is showing 10.30. Slowly a melodiousvoice singing a sad tune is heard in the air.

RAMA(VOICE)
