English Translation:
The Fox and the Cock
1.The Cock is a domestic fowl, and the fox is a wild animal that lives
in the forest. One day, the fox met the cock on road and asked him,
“Where do you live?”
“I live outside,” said the cock. Then the fox asked him, “With whom
do you live?” The cock said, "I live with my children."
2.The fox said, “Why do you live far from me?” The cock replied, “I
am afraid of you, because you foxes eat cocks and hens.” The fox
said, “Please, come. Let us go together to the spring and drink water.”
The cock said, “No, I will never go!” The fox said again, “If you are
afraid to go with me, please let me hear your voice as you crow,
because I have never heard the crow of a cock.”
3.The cock crowed and said, “This is my voice.” The fox seemed a bit
perplexed and began to look cross and said, “Are you insulting me?
In that case, I will come in the evening, and we shall discuss the
matter.” So, the fox came in the evening to the place where the cocks
live. The cock saw him coming and said, “You should not come to
our village, because we are afraid of you foxes.”
4.However, the fox came closer to the cocks. The cocks said, “Please,
stop, wait a minute. We will arrange some of our things, and tell you
to come in.”
5.Then, two of the cocks made a hole in the wall of their house and
called the fox, “Open your eyes wide and look at us through this hole,
and come in.” As the fox got his head in and tried to look inside, the
two cocks, at the same time, picked out the eyes of the fox with their
beaks. The fox was blinded immediately. He was frightened and tried
to run into the forest, but collided with a stone and died there.

Amharic Translation:
