A SONG OF PRAISE TO GOD SECOND READING

James 2:1-5 James teaches that there is to be no partiality

within the Christian community.

GOSPEL READING Mark 7:31-37

Jesus restores a man’s hearing and speech.

FIRST READING Isaiah 35:4-7a

Isaiah prophesies about God’s vindication.

Family Connection loyolapress.com/our-catholic-faith/

Today’s Gospel invites us to consider how we witness the healing presence of Christ in our care for and ministry to those who are sick. We notice that the deaf man is brought to Jesus for healing by his friends. These people beg Jesus to lay his hands on this deaf man so that he might be healed. Jesus’ healing power is shown in his opening of the man’s ears and the restoring of his speech. When family members care for one another when they are sick, they bring Christ’s healing presence. When we pray for those who are ill, we ask God to show his healing power. When health is restored, we share that good news with others.

As you gather as a family, recall a time when a family member was ill. What steps were taken to help restore this family mem-ber to health? Talk about what it feels like to care for a person who is ill, and about how it feels to be the sick person being cared for. In today’s Gospel, we hear about a time when Jesus healed a man who was deaf. Read today’s Gospel, Mark 7:31-37. Notice how the man who was cured and his friends could not honor Jesus’ request to keep quiet about Jesus’ power to heal. We continue to celebrate Jesus’ healing pres-ence in our lives by giving thanks to God for the gift of healing and health. Conclude in prayer, thanking Jesus for the gifts of health and healing. Pray together for those who are sick. After each person is named, pray, “Jesus, heal us.”

Holy Family Parish – Camp Hope Ministry The gravel is in! Holy Family Parishioners con-

tinue to help in so many ways. Bev and Joe Gouveia have been helping with Camp Hope meals and saw the need for gravel to help with dust con-trol and mud (if and when the rains come). They took it upon themselves to cover the cost of this! Amazing parishioners we have! We are still waiting for delivery of the all-weather vestibules for the existing tents. As has been shown again, the Holy Fami-ly Parishioners recognize the need to help the poor and deliver! Thank you all so much for this ministry. HF has set up a separate bank account where people may donate to 'Holy Family-Camp Hope'. These funds will be adminis-tered by HF parishioners and will be used to purchase needed items for the Camp, located behind the U-Haul warehouse on east Nob Hill Road. Pre-addressed enve-lopes for donations can be picked up on the information desk in the foyer lobby of HF. Baptisms

Children’s Ministries: PRESCHOOL THRU GRADE 5

The gospel story begins with a man being brought to Jesus. The man cannot hear and has trouble speaking. Jesus takes the man aside and cures him. The cure that Jesus performs is a sign that he has come into the world to save us. Jesus has come to take away all sickness and suffering. The people are amazed. Jesus asks them not to tell anyone about how he cured the man. But the people are too excited to keep it a secret. They go off and tell others about what happened. . Family Questions: • What does this story tell you about Jesus? • How can you help people who are sick? • Is it sometimes hard for you to keep a secret?
