Thanks, let's look at the base alternative 1 where we sell the house after 10 years. Benefits of this alternative is that housing will be available when returning to Singapore (long term and short term) and there is hands free maintenance of the property. We do not need to worry about all the work related to renting such as renting permits, damage to the property, property management or finding tenants. The drawback is that the property will require infrequent checkups for break-ins or damage. By selling the house now, we remove the need for infrequent checkups and also do not have the same worries related to renting the property. We also get large initial capital upfront creating finance flexibility which could help finance the move to Canada. The only drawback is that one must find housing when visiting or moving back to Singapore. Renting weekly offers the availability of housing when visiting or moving back to Singapore, but comes with many rental related tasks such as payment collection, rental permits, potential damage ong term to Singapore. The drawbacks are that there are still the rental related tasks and one must find housing if visiting Singapore unexpectantly. If we want to summize the options, not renting offers the lowest risk but least reward as well. Renting weekly offers the highest reward with the highest risk. Renting monthly offers the best compromise since the reward is almost the same as renting weekly with about a third of the risk.

  • Thanks, let's look at the base alternative 1 where we sell the house after 10 years.

Renting weekly offers the availability of housing when visiting or moving back to Singapore, but comes with many rental related tasks such as payment collection, rental permits, potential damage

    ong term to Singapore.
