1 Introduction

Many home building kits are predefined and packaged. Customers are charged extra for every change they want to make, they don't have much flexibility in choosing windows, doors or floor plans.

EcoLog homes are different. We provide our customers with the flexibility to design their home to best fits their needs. EcoLog has developed a framework, which offers lots of room for customising, but still defines some key parameters to allow for cost efficient production and construction.

Ecolog Design Principles

The following key principles apply to all EcoLog homes:

• Outside walls are made of 11 rows of sqaure 8"x8" timbers, with 2" hard foam insulation and chinking between the timbers, resulting in 9' high ceilings on the main floor.

• The standard width of an EcoLog building block is 24' or 20'. The length can be varied in 4' intervals. The basic rectangles are between 24' and 48' long. In combination, these rectangles can be added together to form compound wing, L or T-shaped buildings

• Most EcoLog homes have one or more dormers. These not only add appeal, but also allow better use of the loft space

• The EcoLog roof is designed at a 45 degree angle (12/12 pitch)• The typical roof overhang on all sides is 4', which can be extended to add additional

protection as well as roofed space using porches or balconies

2 Cottages And Cabins

This sections contains floor plans with fooprints from 480 sqft to 900 sqft. They are all rectangular buildings with a size from 24'x20' to 24'x36'.

2.1 480 Sqft Cabins

The following 2 floor plans are examples for some simple cabins or cottages. Even though they have a very small footprint, they offer lots of living space.

Key features for both plans are:

• Open concept living room, dining and kitchen area

• Bathroom and laundry on main floor

The first cabin 480 sqft (A) has a single large room in the loft. Therefore no dormers are required in the roof, and the construction is simpler and more affordable.

Our second cabin 480 sqft (B) has the same layout on the main level, and by using 2 dormers in the roof, it offers 2 good sized bedrooms in the loft.

2.2 672 Sqft Cottages

The following two plans show cottages with a 24'x28' footprint. They have 3 to 4 dormers to make efficient use of the loft space. They look very similar on the outside, here are some pictures and 3D models:



The first floor plan has one bedroom on the main floor, and an open ceiling over the living room area:

2.3 768 Sqft Cottages

Cottages with 24'x32' footprint are very popular, and have been chosen by many of our customers before. The following floor plans show you the variety and flexibility of Ecolog homes.

2.4 864 Sqft Cottage

This design is ideally suited for a recreational cabin, cottage, guest house or a small retirement residence. The 24'x36' footprint offers up to 1300 sqft total living space!

Key features of this cottage are:• Large open living room,

dining and kitchen area• Vaulted ceiling in living room

area• Big master bedroom with

ensuite in loft• Two bathrooms• Additional open

office/library space in loft• Laundry in spacious

bathroom on main floor

2.5 Garage With Studio

Ecolog buildings are not only suited for cottages and cabins, but also for commercial buildings or utility buildings. The following plans shows an example for a spacious garage with workshop and a studio in the loft.
