IdonotthinkIamaverytrustingsoul.Idon’thaveadeepsenseofbeliefor“trustintheuniverse”.Idonotknowwhatmyhigherpurposeis,orwhyIamhereorwhat“trustingtheuniverse”reallymeans.Iamnotapersonof“faith”.IunderstandwhatIhavebeenabletoaccomplish,butIdonotfeelthatthereisdivineguidanceplayingapartinmylife.

Idon’tfeelthatIamsupportedby“myguides”or“theuniverse”.Idonotknowwhotheseguidesareorwheretheseguidesreside.Imustbedeaftotheirwisdom.

IdotrustthatIhavetheabilitytokeepevolvingandsurvivingandpersevering.Iunderstandthatlifeisaprocessofgrowingandevolvingandlearningthroughexperiences.Idonothavefaithinsomehigherpower,somemysticalwisdomthatisgivingmeopportunitiesandobstaclesalongtheway,tohelpmegrow.IdotrustthatIwillmakedecisionsandthatIwillhavetolivewiththeoutcomes.

ButwhatIdoknownow,isthatbyacceptingwhatis,whathasbeen,andwhatwillbe,causesmelesssuffering.Isimplywanttobehappy:mentallyandphysicallyandtocultivateeaseofwell-being.Iwanttobecompetent,reliable,trustworthy,truthful,successful,kindandloving.ItisalifeprocessandbythetimeIreallyunderstandtheanswerstomysearching,Iprobablywon’texistinphysicalformandmostlikelynotcareabouttheoutcome.Idon’tseemyattitudeaspessimistic,justrealistic.

TrustAsaparentofa7-year-old,Ilearnedahugelessonabouttrust.Oneday,onthewayhomefromschool,myyoungdaughterandher5th-gradeneighborvisitedtheplazaandatecandy.

Fueledbybothoverwhelmasasingleparent,andtripleguiltandfearforhavinganunsupervised7-year-oldintheplaza,notaffordingtheafter-schoolprogram,andbeinga“bad”motherwithalatch-keychild,Iwasprobablyballistic.

IfeltIcouldnolonger“trust"her.

It’strue-Icouldn’ttrustthetemptationofhangingoutintheplazawithafifthgraderandcandy.Yes,weneededtotalk,figureoutconsequences,andtoworkoutanewafter-schoolplan.

Ijustrecentlyachievedmygoalofgoingfromasize24toasize12inoneyear.Itisabigaccomplishmentbutamajorityofitcamefromtrust,exercise,andafeelingofself-worth.Ihavealwaysbeentheheavyfriend,thejollychef,thepersonwhoisbeautifulontheinside.AndIthoughtthatwaswhoIwas.But,really,IwaslettingotherpeopledefinewhoIwasbymyweight.Ittookanenormousamountoftrusttotakemetoanewlevelofhealthandphysicalappearance.

Iamachef.Mypassionforfoodcanborderonobsession.Iloveeverythingabouttheculinaryworld.But,Ididn’talwaystakecareofmyselfthrougheating,asisthewaywithmanyinthefoodindustry.Iwouldletmyworkloadandlonghoursdrivemetoeatingjunkandfastfood.Itoldmyselfitwasoutofnecessity.InrealityIwasnottrustingthatIcouldgetsomethinghealthierandwholesometoeatlater.Iwouldmakelavishmealsforothersbutwouldnotputforthevenalittlebitofeffortformyself.AndIalsodidnot
