HCS Early CollegeA Title One School!
Happy Love Month! February is here! “One of the keys to success is loving what you aredoing” (Buddha). The beginning of the year gives us a great opportunity to reflect on thesuccesses we had during the past year. No doubt Early College teachers and students hadtremendous success in 2016! We look forward to carrying the same strong work ethic andtraditions into 2017. A new year also allows us to look at areas where we would like toimprove. We get a new day to start fresh, learn from the past, and make the future better.
With the new semester comes excitement! Many are taking all college classes, and it is thelast semester of the high school experience. For others it is the first time taking collegeclasses. I am so proud of our Trailblazers students.
There are several BIG test coming up for our juniors. The ACT testing is February 28th,2017 and the ACT Workkeys is March 22nd, 2017. Please make sure your child has agood meal and plenty of rest. Stress to them the importance of making the best scorepossible. These test are free of charge to the student.
My faculty, staff, and I have so much planned from now until June 5th. We would very muchlike for you to be involved. We had close to 200 students who attended this year’s WinterDance at the Marina Inn Grande Dunes. It was a Blast!
Our alltime favorite event of the year is our MultiCultural Dinner and AVID Family Night. The date for this is February 16th from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. for the meal and then 6:00p.m. – 7:00 p.m. for the AVID events. Please plan to bring your favorite desert for thisevent. The school will provide the meal and beverages. We will also provide learningactivities for all grades. You will not want to miss this opportunity!
I look forward to seeing you at all of our school events. If you need anything, please call oremail me.Happy Love Month!Kandi Fleming, ECHS Principal

Did you know... that our ECHS libraryoffers all types of printed books
PLUS ebooks?!?This year, I have specifically been developing a few
high interest areas in the library. In accordance withstudent requests, I have been ordering many realisticfiction books with main characters very similar to ourown ECHS students. I have also been ordering graphic
novels which offer a unique reading style while stillcovering real content. The number of book requests
have been higher this year than last year which meansmore of our ECHS students are
reading and enjoying it- Huzzah! We also offer ebooks. They can download the libraryapp on their personal devices or read on their laptops.
For students who prefer that technology edge, it isvery simple for them to log into the library catalog. If
any student needs help with this, be sure to see me! Also if students need a classic story in ebook format,
there is Project Gutenberg which offers over 53,000ebooks in various languages.
