The new EC TwinBox Fan product is designedto be both energy efficient and compact, offering ‘on demand’ ventilation along witheasy installation.
Controls are integral and feature our ‘2nd generation’ intelligentfan controller, which has a simplified control interface that allowsfor easy installation and commissioning.
As our EC TwinBox Fan product makes use of EC motortechnology, energy usage is minimised, which means thatspecific fan powers are low, in line with the latest buildingregulations and current legislation.
3
IntroductionOften modern building designs restrict the space available to install ventilation equipment. In these situations the
size of the ductwork is limited and often the fan itself has to be mounted in ceiling voids close to the building
occupants. These restrictions mean that fans need to be compact, reliable and quiet in operation.
The Fläkt Woods EC TwinBox Fan unit has been specifically designed to meet these requirements, as it features
high efficiency energy saving motors driving backward curved impellers, mounted inside an acoustically lined
casing, which offers the optimum installed solution.
SizesThe EC TwinBox Fan range is available to suit circular ductwork that is 250mm, 315mm or 450mm in diameter.
ConstructionCasings are manufactured from pre-galvanised sheet steel and are carefully designed to provide a strong and
rigid casing to minimise vibration.
EC TwinBox Fan units have circular inlet and outlet spigots with a double-lip neoprene seal to minimise air
leakage. The units are internally lined with re-engineered acoustic foam with an erosion proof facing to prevent
the carry over of fibres into the air stream.
Units are designed for duct mounting within the building or external mounting if required (weatherproof variant
available on request).
Fläkt Woods offers circular spigots as standard but rectangular spigots are available on request.
Electrical Supply220 - 240V / 50Hz / 1φ

- Applications
TOILETS
Fast, efficient removal of
odours and air-borne
pollutants contribute to the
maintenance of cleanliness
and an acceptable
environment in communal
sanitary areas.
OFFICES
Fläkt Woods offer a high
performance product range
covering all key elements of
the overall ventilation system.
Our products are designed to
secure the best overall
performance of the system as
a whole, considering
parameters such as health and
air quality, energy efficiency,
noise, fire safety and ease of
installation.
EDUCATION
High occupancy levels during
teaching periods require
energy-efficient and
controllable demand-based
management of air quality and
temperature. The comfort,
health and alertness of staff
and pupils is ensured during
the learning process, but
operating costs can be
minimised when these facilities
are unoccupied.
GYMNASIUM/INDOOR SPORTS
Differing types of activity and
occupancy mean a broad
spectrum of functional
requirements to ensure
efficient removal of used air
and the introduction of fresh
supplies. Systems need to
contain and control the
periodic build up of high
humidity levels and
temperature.
HEALTHCARE
For a hospital to operate at
it's maximum potential, it has
to have all systems working
at the optimum. This not
only applies to staff,
communications and life
support systems, but also to
pipework, cleaning and
ventilation systems.
RETAIL/SHOPPING AREAS
With high activity levels during
the working week and
weekends, it’s important to
make sure that all areas of
ventilation are maintained and
Fläkt Woods has the systems
to achieve all requirements.
RESIDENTIAL
The purpose of ventilation is
to provide clean good quality
air by removing the stale,
polluted air from our homes.
The main task is of course to
ensure that the indoor air is
healthy and safe to breathe.
Ventilation today is also about
energy and saving energy
costs by adding heat recovery
to the ventilation system.
With any system it is always important to have the right product and application to maximise efficiency, with
Fläkt Woods’ new EC TwinBox Fan we have a variety of applications which benefit from our new range.
The applications below give an indication of where the new EC TwinBox Fan can be installed and used to
minimise energy consumption and provide precise air volume control.
6
- Legislation
Environmental Assessment SchemesIt is now very common for new build projects to try and achieve environmental standards such as those set out
in LEED and BREEAM programs. Fläkt Woods, with it's market leading knowledge and products in energy
recovery, has helped many projects achieve the very highest levels in both of these schemes.
Energy using Products Directive (EuP)The various lots within the EuP directive dictates the eco design requirements for minimum efficiency grades and
labelling. Efficiency grades for fans from 125W to 500W are already published, and EC TwinBox Fan product are
expected to be included in the near future. The efficiency requirement is the combination of the fan and drive
efficiency, so EC technology will offer the end user or the designer a solution that is better than the minimum
eco design standards.
Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD)The Commission of the European Union has recently proposed a revision of the EPBD (Energy Performance in
Buildings Directive, 2002/91/EC). The objective is to further strengthen the effectiveness and impact of the
existing Directive.
The background to this initiative is to optimise energy usage. It was noted that even in member states where the
existing Directive has been successfully implemented, the Commission still identified an untapped potential for
improvements that could further reduce the energy consumption and CO2 emissions from buildings.
Building Regulations - Part L2 for New (A) and Existing Buildings (B)Effective from October 2010, Building Regulations Part L and F outline the need for a healthier working/indoor
environment, with the target to decrease CO2 emissions by a further 25% from the initial reduction stated
within the 2006 document. The eco design of our EC Fan range will allow specifiers to create designs which
incorporate the necessary energy usage reductions, whilst still providing precise control of mechanical ventilation.
LEGISLATION
In Europe, all countries now have to design their new buildings to meet energy targets that
are set out in the Energy Performance in Buildings Directive (EPBD). All Fläkt Woods Energy
Performance of Buildings Directive solutions are designed to enable full compliance with this
and other directives regarding ventilation and air conditioning.
ge reductions, w
Being a global manufacturer and supplier makes meeting legislation easier for Fläkt Woods. It means that
Fläkt Woods must produce solutions at standards that equal the most stringent legislation and guidelines around.
Only by doing this can we ensure that we meet relevant standards within every market.
