Time continues to fly! Oh well, I sure had a great month of June!In addition to completing my 180th lifetime century, I also had a great week in Indianapolis working with Bill Voegel and the Fuller Center for Housing constructing a new home for a needy family there. We missed Bill Johnson’s skills this year but hope to have him along again next year.

This is a great opportunity to get out of your comfort zone and try something new. The reason I mention it here is that it is through their bike adventure that I found the Fuller Center and have fallen in love with the mission of eliminating poverty housing. I have gained so many skills by working on homes with them. It would be great fun to have a real entourage from Evansville Bicycle Club participate next year, skilled and unskilled laborers are all welcome. There is no biking involved, although a bike ride could be planned if we had enough interested parties. Just keep that in mind and ask one of us about it if you are interested or let me know and I will share the details on next year’s build as it becomes available.

In a few weeks I will take off on another adventure. I am riding the east coast from Portland, Maine to Key West, Florida with the Fuller Center and my daughter, Nicole, will be with me as well. I am actually coming home for a week in the middle to check on home, my mom, do the EBC calendar, etc. and maybe catch a ride in the area. This is another event I would love to have more EBC people involved with. It is a very reasonably priced way to get in a great scenic ride with some wonderful people. The route changes each year. You can do a few days, a week,

several weeks, or the full trek cross country or the other routes offered. Check it all out at www.fullercenterbikeadventure.org/ If you want to donate to my ride you can do so at fullercenter.donorpages.com/BikeAdventure/DianeBies/. I would be forever grateful!

Just a few reminders as we head into the hotter months of July and August. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids while you ride. Find some shade now and then if possible.

    We need volunteers to help

get all of the routes remarked twice a year. Please contact Bill Voegel to see what you can do to help.

We need ride hosts! Hosting a ride is not that hard. It is a great time for our club members to gather and visit though. Please check your calendar and let me know if you want to host a ride.Good luck to anyone from EBC who chooses to do the New Albany or RAIN rides. Remember these are both one way rides and you do need a ride back at the end.

Lastly I would like to point out that there is a new bicycle incentive program in Evansville giving discounts to cyclists. A bicyclist riding their own, or a Zagster bike, to ride to any business in the program can show your helmet and receive their discount or incentive. There are businesses in the Downtown district, in Haynie’s Corner area, and on Franklin Street participating. For more info go to www.walkbikeevv.org

    EBC RIDE NOTES — 2017

    WWW.EVANSVILLEBICYCLECLUB.ORG JULY, 2017

We had a guest biker in the area recently from Edmond, Oklahoma. I was out of town when I received the phone call on my home line. Thank goodness Kevin Otolski answered and welcomed this gentleman to club rides.

I talked with him at length today and was pleased to hear his positive comments about our members. He spoke highly of those who welcomed him into the Tuesday night ride. He especially appreciated the Breivogel’s kindness. Judy, you are so amazing these days as you train for your ironman this fall.

Gary, you are always so kind and friendly to everyone on a bike and made Wyatt feel so at ease with your conver-sation and encouragement.

It is always so nice to have a guest in our area! Thank you EBC for stepping up appropriately and showing our better side. Please keep your eyes peeled for Wyatt as he says he will be back in the area with his bike again. We do have a beautiful area to ride and our roads are pretty great. Evansville is just a great place to raise a biker.

Of course I mentioned the GPM as he says he will be back for a while at the end of September and start of October.
