The home automation hub is designed to provide best in class user experience with Eaton’s line of compatible home automation products. Eaton’s Home Automation Hub1. What is the Home automation hub?The Home automation hub is a powerful gateway for your connected home. From a single app which can be downloaded from the Apple Appstore or Google Play, the hub can manage lighting controls, home security, door locks, garage door openers, thermostats, and more!

2. What technology supports the Home automation hub?Eaton’s Home automation hub supports Z-Wave and WiFi wireless protocols. The technology enables the hub to be compatible with Eaton’sZ-Wave based wireless lighting controls as well as a host of other Z-Wave and WiFi based smart home devices.

3. What can the homeowner do with the Home automation hub?The homeowner can control compatible, installed residential products by setting up scenes and schedules and creating automations throughthe Eaton Home app. It also supports activated controls through Amazon Alexa. For example:

Scenes: Configure a scene that locks the front door, turns ON the living room lights to 30% dim level, and sets the thermostat to 76°.Automations: Create automations to initiate sensor based actions that enable your garage door to open and hallway lights to turn ON as you arrive home. Schedules: Set up a schedule through the Eaton Home app that enables your interior and exterior lights to turn ON at a precise time.Voice based control: Eaton’s Home automation hub supports integration with Amazon Alexa to activate convenient voice commands such as turning lights ON and OFF, locking doors and simply adjusting thermostats.

4. What is the wireless range for the Home automation hub?Wireless range is dependent on many factors in a residential application, but a typical application may have a range of about 60 ft. For aZ-Wave installation, you can enhance the range of the hub by adding Eaton’s Z-Wave Wireless devices at regular intervals as they all act asrepeaters and help create a stronger mesh network.

5. How many times can a Z-Wave signal be repeated?A Z-Wave signal can be repeated up to a total of 4 times. That means a device can have up to 3 devices (already installed in the network)between itself and controller, unless it can directly be reached by the controller.

6. Will my Home automation hub connect to 5GHz network?No. The Home automation hub will only connect to 2.4GHz network

7. Where is the ideal location in the home to place the Home automation hub?The Home automation hub relies on wireless communication to ‘talk’ to devices and control them. Just like your WiFi router, your hub shouldbe placed centrally within the home network preferable at a slight elevation from ground. Avoid placing the hub in a cabinet or near anythingthat might interfere with its radio signal.

8. How does the Eaton Home app connect to my Home automation hub?The Eaton Home app connects to your Home automation hub using a cloud. The account that you create while setting up the app and thecontroller will be used by the cloud to access your system.

9. Does the Home automation hub support integration with Amazon Alexa, Google Home and IFTTT?Eaton’s Home automation hub integrates with Amazon Echo and other Alexa enabled devices for convenient voice based control of yoursystem. Currently Eaton’s Home automation hub does not support integration with Google Home and IFTTT, but we are continuously addingfeatures to the hub. Look for more information on this soon!

10. How many devices can I have on my network?Eaton’s Home automation hub is a Z-Wave Plus certified gateway. A single Z-Wave network supports up to 232 devices but we recommendlimiting a wireless network to around 100 devices for the most optimal experience.

11. What happens to my installed connected home devices when internet or power goes out?If your internet goes down but your WiFi network is still present, your Home automation hub will be able to control Eaton’s Z-Wavedevices and select other devices through your Eaton Home app.If your power goes out, your home automation bridge will not be able to communicate with the connected devices in your home.However, all the settings and associations will remain in the hub for you to seamlessly use once the power comes back.

Security is top priority at Eaton. This document contains a brief description of how Eaton Home protects your security and some suggestions for keeping your home network secure.

Eaton HomeEaton values the customer’s security and has worked hard to make sure that the Eaton Home app is protected.

SmartHome system PIN (personal identification number)Eaton Home secures app access through a PIN, assigned by default and the customized by the user.

The default SmartHome PIN should be changed immediately after your first connection to the SmartHome with the app. To change the PIN, open the app and browse to Reset PIN (Settings > Configuration > Reset PIN), and then select a PIN that contains a combination of letters (upper and lowercase), numbers, and symbols. Avoid selecting an easily guessed PIN-1234.

Consider changing your PIN every 30 to 90 days or after guests/installers access your smart home system. This prevents continued access from undesired users.

Note: For added security, first time connections to the Eaton Home project with a user device (smartphone) must be made while on premises and connected to the LAN.

Secure tokens for remote connections Eaton Home uses secure tokens for device connections. Thermostats, security devices, etc., all use tokens. These tokens are short lived and change regularly to ensure that connections are safe.

Reverse proxy The Eaton Home app opens a secure encrypted tunnel to a cloud based system using authorized user provided credentials, to authenticate device communication in the home. The encrypted tunnel is created between the user’s device and the Eaton Home app, no further communication is made to other internet services.

Homeowner notified when their system is accessed using Pro Install app The homeowner is notified when a installer accesses their project using the Eaton’s Pro Install app. This appears as pop-up notification on all connected Android smartphones or iOS devices. This alerts the homeowner that their system is being accessed. So, no more blind updates or changes. The homeowner can contact the installer to learn about the changes.

Controlled incoming connections The Eaton’s Home automation hub only uses encrypted SSL (Secure Socket Layer) based protocols to communicate with client devices and the app. The hub initiates all connections and does not allow traffic over ports without valid credentials. This makes unauthorized devices unable to connect to your Eaton Home system.

Home network securityNot only do we care about Eaton Home security, but also general home network security. See the security suggestions below.

Change your default router administrator password and username Most WiFi wireless routers and access points have a manufacturer set default admin username and password. This information is often simple and documented. If unchanged, this leaves you vulnerable to cybercriminals. These settings should be changed immediately. A secure router password should be at least 20 characters long and include a combination of numbers, letters (upper and lowercase), and symbols.Some routers allow remote access from the internet. Disabling this feature helps prevent hackers from connecting to your router on a device not on your wireless network.

Choose a strong WiFi passwordDefault router passwords are easy to guess when manufacturer information is known or available. A secure wireless password should be at least 20 characters long and include a combination of numbers, letters (upper and lowercase), and symbols. A complex password also discourages hackers from accessing your network to “borrow” your data.

Use network encryptionDo not use outdated encryption technology. WEP and WPA encryption are older and susceptible to hacking. WPA2 AES is the current secure standard, compatible with most modern routers and WiFi devices.

Hide your network SSIDIf you do not need to broadcast your SSID, hide it. Most routers allow an admin user to disable the network broadcast feature.

Change your network’s default SSIDRouters come with a default manufacturer WiFi name (SSID), often containing the manufacturer name. Broadcasting this manufacturer name makes it easier for hackers to exploit the known vulnerabilities of the router. The SSID name should be changed immediately and not include personal information (names, address, etc.). Do not make it easy for a hacker to guess which WiFi network is yours.

Use guest networks on your router When possible setup a guest network with an SSID, password, and IP scheme different from the home’s current SSID. This allows guests to connect to your home’s internet, but can be disabled or changed as desired. For example – when changing the IP scheme from 192.18.1.0/24, set the guest account to 10.0.0.1/24. Make the scheme different. This prevents access to on premises equipment isolating the network from guest access.

Note: If a guest network will not be used, disable the guest network option so that it cannot be exploited.

Strategically position your routerSet up your router as close to the center of your home as possible. This maximizes your signal coverage while minimizing the signal strength outside of your house. A hacker can infiltrate your wireless network if it can be accessed from a neighboring house or outside on the street.

Disable remote accessSome routers allow remote access from the internet. Disabling this feature helps prevent hackers from connecting to your router on a device not on your wireless network.

Keep your router’s firmware/software up-to-dateRouter firmware/software may contain exploitable flaws. Ensure your router is running the latest firmware/software to minimize vulnerability to router exploits. Your router may support auto-updates, check for and enable the auto-update setting.

Use a firewallYour router may include a network firewall. For added security, ensure that your network firewall is enabled.

DescriptionThe Eaton Home Automation Hub (HOMECT) provides all device management services, supports Eaton Home user interface services, and acts as the gateway to the Cloud for system updates. The hub comes complete with the EatonOS preloaded. The controller also comes equipped with a Z-Wave (908.4 MHz) transceiver for controlling your other devices, such as integrated lighting, thermostats, sensors, and locks.

WARNING: Do not apply power to the HOMECT until installation is complete. Failure to do so may result in bodily injury and/or damage to the equipment.

InstallationWe recommend placing the Home automation hub in an open centrally located area within the home, and using the included wall mount to attach the Home automation hub to a standard single gang box. The Home automation hub should not be mounted in a structured enclosure, panel, or closet. If the

Home automation hub is placed in a closed off area, the wireless signal strength may be compromised.

Note: To prevent radio frequency (RF) interference, we recommend that you place the Home automation hub away from devices that may cause interference and away from grounded metals.

Powering on and connecting the HOMECTAfter installing the Home automation hub and downloading the Eaton App, power on the hub. The Home automation hub can be powered using PoE (sold separately) or the included 5v micro USB adapter.

WARNING: You must follow the instructions below to power your Home automation hub. Failure to do so may result in bodily injury and/or damage to the equipment.

To connect power to the HOMECT using PoE: Note: PoE connection requires two Ethernet cables, they are referred to as cable #1 and cable #2.

1. Plug an Ethernet cable (#1) into the Ethernet porton your Home automation hub. See Figure 2,item 1.1.

2. Plug the opposite end of the cable into the PoEinjector (sold separately) port labeled POE. See,Figure 2, item 1.2.

3. Plug a separate Ethernet cable (#2) into the LANport on the PoE injector. See, Figure 2, item 2.1.

4. Plug the opposite end of the Ethernet cable (#2)into an Ethernet port on your router. See Figure2, item 2.2.

5. Plug the PoE power supply into the D/C port onthe PoE injector. See Figure 2, item 6.2.

6. Plug the PoE power supply into a wall outlet. SeeFigure 2, items 6 and 5.

2. Plug the power adapter’s opposite end into a walloutlet. See Figure 3, items 2 and 3.

3. Check the LED on the top edge of the Homeautomation hub. It flashes red until Wi-Fi is configured.See Figure 6, item 1.

Home automation hub Eaton Home setup After the Home automation hub’s installation, setup the connection.

There are two different setup options, PoE (Power over Ethernet) and Wi-Fi connection. Follow the steps according to how the Home automation hub is powered.

To connect your HOMECT using PoE:Notes: • If the Home automation hub’s LED is not solid blue

after 90 seconds, see Troubleshooting on page 4.• Your Android or iOS device must be connected to your

home network.

1. Download and open the Eaton Home App.2. Tap the Inventory icon , and then tap the

Settings icon .3. The Locations dialog displays. Select the displayed

project. Note: The project displays as -- No project --.See Figure 4.

4. Enter the PIN 1234 as prompted.5. Tap outside of the Locations dialog box.

You are now ready to configure the project.

Configure, test, and deploy a projectRefer to the following instructions on creating, testing, and deploying devices. You can deploy the devices through your Eaton Home app.

Including Z-Wave device to Home Automation Hub:For the Eaton Home mobile application, follow the following steps:• Tap the Inventory icon on the top right• Select ‘Devices’ from the ‘Configure’ menu at

the bottom of the screen• Tap the Inventory icon from the bottom of

the screen• Select the category of device you want to add to

the controller. E.g.: ‘Lighting’• Name the device you want to add and select the

area you want. Tap ‘Continue’• Tap ‘Start Discovery Mode’ to put the device in

inclusion mode.• Follow the instructions with your Z-Wave device

to put that device in pairing mode. Follow theinstructions on the screen to compete theinclusion process.

• Once the device has been included, the app willallow you to configure the device settings. Youcan tap ‘<’ icon to exit to the main screen.

Excluding Z-Wave device to Home Automation Hub:For the Eaton Home mobile application, follow the following steps:• Tap the Inventory icon on the top right• Select ‘Devices’ from the ‘Configure’ menu at

the bottom of the screen• Select the category of device you want to

exclude from the network; the screen shouldshow list of all the devices in that category.

• Tap ‘⋮’ next to the name of the device you wantto exclude. Tap ‘Remove’ from the drop downmenu

• Tap ‘Start Removal Mode’ to put the controller inexclusion mode.

• Follow the instructions with your Z-Wave deviceto put that device in exclusion mode.

• Follow the instructions on the screen to competethe exclusion process.

Mounting the Home automation hub on a standard single gang box1. Place the wall mount against a standard gang box. See

Figure 5, items 1 and 3.2. Align the long screws in the wall mount, and then

fully screw them in. Repeat this with the short screws,stopping with enough room remaining to support theHome automation hub. See Figure 5, items 4 and 5.

3. Align the Home automation hub over the screws, andthen slide it down, locking it in place. See Figure 5,item 6.

Understanding LED colors and the Home automation hub statusThe Home automation hub has LED indicators that change colors based on the Home automation hub’s status. Once powered on, observe the Home automation hub’s LED status. Figure 6 identifies the LEDs on the Home automation hub.

Note: The Eaton Home connection can take up to 90 seconds. Wait the full 90 seconds before attempting to troubleshoot.

Blue• When the LED flashes blue in 1 second intervals, the

device is booting normally.• When the device is solid blue after booting up, the

device is functioning properly.• When the LED flashes blue in .5 seconds intervals, the

HOMECT is unable to connect to the internet.

Red/Blue• Alternating: When the LED flashes red and blue in .5

second intervals, the Home automation hub isrestarting in Access Point (AP) mode.

• Flashing in unison at .5 second intervals: The Homeautomation hub is updating.

Red/not lit• When the LED flashes red in .5 second intervals,

the Home automation hub is in AP mode.

Note: When the controller is in AP mode, it creates its own wireless network.

• When the LED is red or not lit, see thetroubleshooting steps on page 4.

Trouble shooting stepsWhen the Home automation hub is not functioning properly, use the LED table and troubleshooting steps below.

Blinking red in 2 second intervals

The Home automation hub is not connected to your local network. • The Eaton Home connection may

take up to 90 seconds. Wait thefull 90 seconds before shuttingoff/rebooting the Homeautomation hub.

• Ensure that there is internet inthe home, reset the router, andthen shut down and restart theHome automation hub.

• Ensure that the SSID is correct.Shut down and restart the Homeautomation hub, re-enter theSSID, and wait for connection.

Solid red Eaton OS is not operational. • Check the network connectivity.

If there is no connection, restartthe network. If there isconnection, shut down andrestart the Home automationhub.

Not lit There is no power connected to the Home automation hub, or the Home automation hub is shut down. • Check the power supplies are

plugged in and wired correctly.

To shut down the Home automation hub:1. Locate the recessed push button on the Home

automation hub. See Figure 1, item 1.2. Insert the paper clip (provided) pressing the button down and holding for 5 seconds. See Figure 7. 3. Remove the paper clip and observe the LED behavior.

The Home automation hub’s LED indicators alternatered and blue signifying it has started shutting down.

4. After the Home automation hub shuts down,disconnect the Home automation hub’s powersupply.

5. Reconnect the power supply and verify that theHome automation hub restarts. Continue withinstallation and setup.

To reset the Home automation hub and enter AP mode: 1. Locate the recessed push button on the Home

automation hub. See Figure 1, item 1.2. Insert the paper clip (provided) pressing the button

down and holding for 20 seconds. See Figure 7.3. Remove the paper clip and observe the LED behavior.

The Home automation hub’s LED indicators alternatered and blue signifying it has entered the reboot state.

4. Once the Home automation hub boots and the LEDflashes red in .5 second intervals, it is in AP mode.Continue with installation and setup.

Note: If this controller is the primary controller for your network, resetting it will result in the nodes in your network being orphaned and it will be necessary after the reset to exclude and re-include all of the nodes in the network. If this controller is being used as a secondary controller in the network, use this procedure to reset this controller only in the event that the network primary controller is missing or otherwise inoperable.

Other things to check when troubleshooting:• Ensure that the home has internet connection.• If the SSID menu closes before it has successfully

connected, you must shut down and restart theHome automation hub.

Solid Blue Everything is working correctly.

Blinking Red in 2 second intervals

The hub is not connected to your home network. Shutdown and power cycle the hub.

Solid Red ControllerOS is not operational. Shut down and power cycle the hub.

Not LitThere is no power connected to the hub. Check that the power supplies are plugged in and wired correctly.

Blinking Red and Blue

Firmware update in progress. It can take up to 5 minutes.

When the hub reboots, it can take up to 25 seconds to successfully restart in *AP mode.

To shut down the hub, use the provided paper clip to press and hold the recessed push button down for 5 seconds.

To shut down hub and power cycle in AP mode, use the provided paper clip to press and hold the recessed button down for 20 seconds.

*AP mode: when the hub is broadcasting local WiFi for installation purposes.

Installation Option 1: WiFi

To connect to Eaton’s Home Automation Hub you must have the Eaton Home App, and access to your home’s WiFi.

Step 1 - Use pliers to plug USB power supply into hub.

Step 2 - Plug USB power supply into wall outlet.

Step 3 - Download the Eaton Home App from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Step 4 - Open the Eaton Home App & connect your Android or iOS device to the Eaton Access Point WiFi (EatonWiFi-XXXX) through the WiFi settings menu on your device. Note: XXXX represents the last 4 characters of the unit’s MAC address. It can take up to 2 minutes for the Eaton WiFi to appear.

Step 5 - Open the Eaton Home App. a. Enter the home’s WiFi SSID and password, tap

Next.

b. Follow the displayed instructions.

c. Wait for the LED to become solid blue, this can take up to 90 seconds.

Note: If the LED does not change to solid blue, see the Additional Troubleshooting panel or the Installation and Setup Guide.

Installation Option 2: Power over Ethernet

(PoE injector requires separate purchase— Part #: RFPOE). To connect to Eaton’s Home Automation Hub you must have the Eaton Home App, and access to your home’s WiFi.

Step 1 - Connect the hub to the PoE injector

Step 2 - Connect the injector to the router, and then connect the injector to the power supply.

Step 3 - Download, and then open the Eaton Home App. a. Tap , and then tap .

To Mount the Hub to Wall

Step 6 - Reconnect your Android or iOS device to your home WiFi, and then re-open the Eaton App.

a. Tap , and then tap .

b. Select the project – No project – (EatonHome).

c. Enter the PIN 1234 when prompted.

d. Tap outside of the Locations box or tap Done. You are now ready to use your hub.

Step 1 - Attach the mounting bracket to the gang box.

Step 2 - Plug in the hub, and then slide it on to the mounting bracket.

• Do not throw away the micro USB power supply used for WiFi, it may be required for other features.
