St. David's Easter Trail

Operating Instructions

IntroductionThis document is in three sections:

• How to switch the equipment on at the start of each day, and check it is working.

• How to run a group's journey through the trail

• How to switch everything off at the end of the day

For each section, we take a virtual walk around the trail, in the order the scenes are visited by the groups.

Switching On

Upper RoomThis does not have any main lighting to worry about. There are a couple of battery operated candles on the table which need to be switched on.

Gethsemane1. All the equipment is in the vertical cupboard which is

straight in front of you as you walk in the door (Figure 1).

2. Open the door of the cupboard and you will find the equipment at the bottom, with a pair of switched plugs on top of it (Figure 2).

3. Switch on the right-hand switch of the pair. This will not seem to do anything, but starts up the control unit in the pale grey box (you may notice a little blue light down the left hand side at this point).

9. If you are happy everything is going well, then press the “STOP” button. The sound will stop and the light go back to blue. You have completed the most complex scene!

10. If the light is changing in jerks (or not on at all) then something has not started correctly in the control unit (this is not your fault, but happens about one time in 10). To resolve this, switch the system off and start it up again – all should be fine the second time!

4. Continue to the font, where the controller for the lights is sat on the top of the font (Figure 10). It has plenty of cable so it can be moved around as needed.

Running a JourneyAs the group makes it's way round the trail, the lights need to be switched on before they reach each scene, but not more than one scene in advance, so the lights aren't a distraction to the group going round.

Upper RoomThis should be all ready for the group to arrive without anything being done.

Gethsemane1. Make sure the projector, lights and sound are switched on

2. Press the “STOP” button to re-set the lighting and sound to the start (blue) state.

3. All is now ready for the group to come from the Upper Room through to Gethsemane.

4. Once the group has gone in to Gethsemane and sat down and Trish has finished introducing, the “START“ button needs to be pressed (may be best left to whoever is group tail end).

Golgotha1. Move round to Golgotha and locate the light controller.

2. Once the group is in Gethsemane, the lights on Golgotha need to be switched on by pushing the faders up: 1, 2, 3 all the way up, 4 to the marker.

3. All is now ready for the group to come from Gethsemane to Golgotha.

Resurrection Garden1. Move to the Resurrection Garden.

2. Once the group are in Golgotha, switch on the Resurrection garden lights by turning all three controls all the way round to maximum.

3. All is now ready for the group to come from Golgotha to the Resurrection Garden.

From the Resurrection Garden the group will leave, and the lights in Gethsemane and Golgotha can be turned back down – the timing of this is not critical.

Switching Off

Upper RoomThis does not have any main lighting to worry about. The various “candle” are battery operated and need to be switched off rather than blown out!

Gethsemane1. Switch off the left hand socket to turn off the projector, lights and sound (Figure 14).

2. Next the control unit needs to be shut down before it is switched off. To do this, lift the transparent cover to the side and press the large red off button (Figure 15).

3. This will not seem to do anything, but instructsthe control unit in the pale grey box to shut down.

4. After a minute, the yellow light on the front edge of the control unit will go out. The control unit is now shut down.

5. When the control unit shut down, switch off the right hand socket. All is now done here.

GolgothaWith Gethsemane switched off, we move on to Golgotha.

1. Push all the sliders on the light controller to zero to turn the lights off

2. Find your way through the curtains to the choir vestry. On top of the safe (facing you as you come in from the church) is the black circuit breaker.

3. On the circuit breaker, press the blue Test button to turn the power off (Figure 16). The indicator will change from red to black, indicating power is off to Golgotha.

Resurrection GardenFinally, switch the Resurrection Garden lighting off.

1. Turn each of the three controls to zero, putting the lights out.

2. Switch the mains socket off.
