My Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, Blessings of the Risen Lord be with you! We celebrate the great event of the Resurrection of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We spent forty days of Lent in prayer, penance, fasting, and almsgiving in the spirit of renewing our spiritual life, and celebrating worthily the Paschal Mystery. We now enter the Easter Season in which the Church rejoices at the victory of Jesus over sin and death. We are called to enter more fully into the ‘life of grace’ that has been given to us through our Baptism. The epistle of Saint Paul in the Easter Vigil reminds us this truth: “We were indeed buried with Him through Baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life. For if we have grown into union with Him through a death like His, we shall also be united with Him in the resurrection” (Romans 6:4-5). It is with the joyful hope in Christ that the Holy Mother Church celebrates the Easter event, particularly for the next 50 days, affirming the new life Jesus has won for us on the Cross. As your Pastor, may I encourage all of us to allow this joyful hope to be ever more evident in the way we live out our Catholic faith in our parish community as well as in the larger society. May we take courage and not afraid to share and defend our faith in the risen Lord. It is important that the world is able to see the face of Jesus in us at this moment in time as we encounter many challenges to our faith life. It is truly the risen Lord who desires to be present to this broken and bruised world through us. May our faith life give witness that Christ is alive and at work in the world today. By living the Gospel values that the Lord teaches and by allowing His love to permeate all our actions, we can join the first disciples to acclaim, “The Lord is risen! He is truly risen!” As we rejoice in the new life Jesus has offered for us, we recognize in our parish the signs of new life in those who are newly registered, the babies who were baptized, the RCIA candidates and catechumens who are initiated in to our faith life, our children in the religious education and the parish school who receive their First Holy Communion, and our confirmation candidates who will be confirmed in the month of May. Let us congratulate them and pray for their continued growth in their faith life. It is my great joy to welcome back those of our brothers and sisters who have been away from our faith family, the Church. Welcome Home! I prayer and hope that you will continue to be with us to worship and receive the Risen Christ in your heart, particularly on every Sunday. I offer my sincere appreciation to all our regular parishioners for your continued commitment to profess your faith in the risen Lord at every Mass we celebrate in our church. I thank you for your active participation in various ministries of the parish, supporting our parish with its financial needs, and empowering us to make our parish such a warm, caring, and friendly community of faith. Together with our Pastoral and Finance Councils, and the parish, school, and religious education staff, I wish you a Happy Easter! With the Easter Blessings, Fr. Antony Gaspar Pastor

TREASURE OF OUR TRADITIONS

FIRST FRIDAY ADORATION ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT Friday, April 6th, 2018 – 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM Would you like to enrich your heart and soul with an hour devoted to our Blessed Lord in Eucharistic Adoration? It is a rich and refreshing experience of deep prayer and spiritual guidance. Come join us for meditative prayer before Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament every First Friday of the month, starting after the 8:00 am Mass until 7:00 pm, followed by a Mass at 7:30 pm. We invite our parishioners to spend some time before the Blessed Sacrament and pray for an increase in vocations and your own personal intentions.

“The Church and the world have a great need of Eucharistic worship.

Jesus waits for us in this Sacrament of Love. Let us be generous with our time in going to meet Him in adoration and in contemplation that is full of faith… May our adoration never cease.” –

Saint John Paul II

DEVOTION TO ST. PEREGRINE PATRON SAINT OF CANCER PATIENTS Friday, April 6, 2018 at 6:30 PM

If you would like to have your family member or friend to be prayed for during the St. Peregrine Devotion, please feel free to call the Parish Office at (562) 424-8595 with Names (*last name is optional).

Saint Peregrine is the patron saint of Cancer patients and we will be praying through the intercession of St. Peregrine for those who have Cancer and those who are Cancer survivors.

All are welcome to join us. The novena is every First Friday of the month at 6:30 PM, dur ing Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament here at St. Barnabas Church.

The Paschal Mystery is the key to our Christian faith: the dying and rising of Jesus that is the pattern of our life. In their first steps on the road of faith, the cate-chumens feel the cross of glory traced over their eyes, on their lips, across their shoulders, on their ears, over their heart, and on their feet. The mystery is that even death gives way to life for those who are held in the embrace of Jesus. Today, many new Christians arise from the waters of the font. Yet the font is not the destination of their journey. The goal is Pentecost, fifty days from now, and a lifetime of praise to the Father, in Christ, in the embrace of the Holy Spirit, for the sake of the world. “Neophyte,” our ancient word for newly-baptized people, means “newly-planted” in Greek. If someone in your parish has just been baptized, welcome them today. The smiles on their faces and the light in the eyes is a foretaste of heaven. —Rev. James Field, Copy-right © J. S. Paluch Co.

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY APRIL 8TH - DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY We will be praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and Adoration from 1:30 pm - 3pm, Sunday 4/8. All are welcome to pray in front of the blessed sacrament.

Paschal Lamb with the banner symbolising Christ's resurrection. Stained Glass, Anglican cathedral at Guildford, Surrey, England.
