nRFQ/QUOTATION STAGE
1. Translate, develop, and round-out specifications to be presented to factories for quotation
2. Identify and qualify suitable factories for quotation
3. Field and answer questions from the factories during the RFQ phase, taking responsibility and risk for any errors during quote development
4. Obtain quotes from several factories and narrow down to the 2 or 3 most competitive and qualified
5. Issue a quote to the customer, taking risk of currency valuation, raw material fluctuations, cash flow, and warranty liability
Project Steps• Sourcing engineering staff in China and
Vietnam• Network of audited and pre-qualified
suppliers• System and tools to qualify required new
suppliers• Formal RFQ tracking tool• Regular updates and communications
between EWA sourcing and EW Atlanta• Market pricing and other competitive
analyses performed out of Atlanta office

nTOOLING/SAMPLES/1ST PRODUCTION
Project Steps• Project engineering staff in China and Vietnam• Project engineering oversight from EW Atlanta
office• NPR project launch tool—captures task list and
required information• Formal reports and regular update meetings and
communications• PPAP and CPK report capabilities• Formal document control EC system• QP development protocol• Drawing sign-off protocol
Resources and Tools
6. Upon issuance of PO, develop the engineering specification and quality control specification package
7. Monitor and supervise the factory as tooling is developed, keeping the project on track and on schedule
8. Manage testing and evaluation of samples, and the iterative process to modify tooling and process until suitable samples are achieved
9. Gain customer approval of samples and production release controlled documents re. engineering specification and QC
10. Monitor production status and in-process quality requirements
11. Perform QC audit inspections on 1st production lot (container)

Vietnam• Quality engineering oversight from EW Atlanta
office• Formal CAR and RMA tools• Formal quality scorecard reporting• Commodity cost tracking• Online customer portal• Logistics team in China and Atlanta• Demand Planning software and protocols• Container WizardTM
• Formal EC process
Resources and Tools
11. Perform QC audit inspections on every production lot (container)
12. Manage financial transactions with the factory, including any warranty claims from customer
13. Manage logistics—negotiate freight rates, booking of freight, customs clearance and documentation, inland transport to customer’s door

CASE STUDY
Challenge: Biolab desired to design, develop, and bring to retail market a floating pool chemical dispenser. Their goal was to go from concept to store shelves in one year.
Solution: Working with Slingshot PDG and East West Mfg., Biolab leveraged their joint capabilities to:
• Develop, prototype, and test the product’s design prior to commissioning production tooling•Meet product cost goals necessary to support the business case•Complete the production tooling in an expedited timeframe•Finish production on time to get first product on the shelves and in the supply chain to support an on-schedule launch•Insure product quality, both aesthetic and performance-based•Support ongoing product sell-through via supply chain management tools

CASE STUDY
Challenge: In 2002 Johnson Controls wanted to re-source their screw machine parts from their current domestic and in-house base to an offshore manufacturer. Solution: JCI chose East West’s Domestic Offshore Manufacturing™ • experience, processes, and feet on the street
•engineering capabilities : documentation, tooling, sample approval and validation•Quality Control•supply chain expertise: US warehousing, sophisticated supply chain management, and reporting tools•US based customer service and engineering support •cost-efficient manner: final landed costs equal or lower than doing it themselves
Continued Success: the screw machine project has organically grown to multiple 7-figure sales $ •Concentric Vent kits
•Bronze and Stainless Bellows used in valves/controls•HVAC aftermarket: electric motors, transformers, filter/driers, capacitors, and other HVAC components
