Dear Middle School Students & Parents,

Summer is a perfect time to relax, have fun and spend time with friends and family.

We all need the chance to recharge our batteries and enjoy some time soaking up the

sun. In between all of the fun and relaxation we encourage all of our students to slip

in some reading time. Studies have shown the importance of reading during the

summer in helping to retain the knowledge that has been gained during the past school

year.

We want all students to read whatever may interest them. We will have our annual

kiva contest next school year. Please keep a log of all of the books you have read over

the summer, both fiction and non-fiction. The kiva that reads the most will win a pizza

party. Reading logs will be provided to all students. Remember every book counts!

We will also have a second competition. We are going to raffle off two Kindle Fires.

To be eligible for the raffle you must select at least one of the fiction/non-fiction

book pairs from the attached list. You can earn a raffle ticket for every pair that you

read.

Enjoy your summer and your reading! Make sure to double your fun by participating in

the East Lyme Public Library Summer Reading Program as well!

Sincerely,

Mrs. C. Woitovich

*Don’t forget about our ebooks! You can access our ebook collection from home

throughout the summer. Visit the media center page for all of your summer reading

needs!

Kindle Fire Raffle!

This year we are holding an exciting new raffle to support our Summer

Reading Program. We will be raffling off 2 Kindle Fire tablets. To participate in this

raffle, students must read at least 1 of the fiction/non-fiction book pairs that are

listed below. Students should circle the book pairs (both books must be read) that

they have read and have a parent sign the last page of this packet. Students will

turn their sheets in to their Language Arts teachers at the start of the school year

and will receive a raffle ticket for each pair that is read. For example if a student

reads 2 of the reading pairs listed below, a total of 4 books, they will earn 2 raffle

tickets.
