It’s that time of the year again, as we celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival which falls on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar. On this night when the moon is full and round, families normally gather and indulge in mooncakes. We wanted to extend the celebration beyond family by arranging a host of Mid-Autumn Festival activities across town for our residents to partake. They joined the lantern procession and were bedazzled by lanterns of different shapes and colours, as well as delightful games for all ages and wonderful song and dance performances. It was heartwarming to see everyone enjoy the celebration of this perennial tradition.


CELEBRATING DIWALI

Diwali, or Deepavali falls in October or November. This year, it’s in November and celebrations usually go on for 5 days. Also known as the Festival of Lights, various parts of our town were lit up with Diwali lamps and parties! In celebration of this popular festival of Hinduism, Members of the Parliament and residents of all ages and races dressed up for the occasion on Deepavali Nite, and relished in the festivities of good food and entertainment.

PARTYThis year’s Halloween event has successfully attracted 700 residents on 20 October 2018. Enlivening the ambience of the event were the children dressed in fanciful costumes and families flitted from booth to booth, getting their faces painted and having neon light tattoos, making their own shrink art keychains and dreamcatchers. The highlight was the haunted house where children braved through the scary house with their parents!

Being the fourth installment organised by Bedok CC YEC, Halloween@Heartlands has become a trademark event and tradition for our Bedok residents of all races, ages and estates to eagerly anticipate and celebrate together every year. Close to 800 residents dressed in their best Halloween costumes, gathered at Bedok Community Centre on 27 October 2018, to conquer the horror house and experience the inaugural laser maze. There were also stage performances such as storytelling, magic show as well as Halloween-themed game booths where children were treated to our very own version of Trick or Treat at the CC.

HEALTH WORKSHOP AND COOKING DEMONSTRATION (IAEC)

As the saying goes, “you are what you eat.” Residents of Kampong Chai Chee spent an afternoon on 21 October 2018 learning to keep diabetes away in the Diabetic Awareness Workshop and how to whip up healthy food that is easy to cook and prepare. Residents had a great time mingling with their neighbours, exchanging cooking tips. Join us in our next session!

Siglap Family Fun-Day Carnival 2018 sets the stage for family-friendly communities across Siglap and reinforces the message that parenthood is achievable, enjoyable and celebrated in Singapore. It also created a platform to bring community partners together to celebrate parenthood. Held in conjunction with Baby Singapore 2018 and the Embracing Parenthood Ceremony, more than 600 residents visited the carnival on 6 October. Through the carnival, many young families met and established new friendships.

It was all smiles and laughter as Member of Parliament Ms Cheryl Chan met more than 130 residents, in celebration of Children’s Day. Children and their families had an eventful day with activities like stage performances, magic shows and art & craft sessions for the little ones.
