The Peterborough County Soil and Crop Association is planning a bus tour Wednesday, August 17. Our first stop of the day will be at our local cricket enterprise in Norwood. Here we can taste cricket flour and enjoy some crispy crickets. La France Sod Farm on County Rd 50 (Preneveau Road) will be the host of our second stop where we can see the production and equipment required to grow grass. We are waiting for confirmation from wither the Ontario Water Buffalo Company North of Stirling or the First Ontario Shrimp farm East of Campbellford as our third stop of the day. We will be leaving Norwood at 9:00am from the Begg Parking lot and returning at 4:00pm. Bring your lunch, some spending money and your camera. Refreshments will be supplied by our association. There is no cost to soil and crop members or 4-H members. All others will be $10. We will have a very interesting and informative day as usual. Durham & Victoria County SCIA bus trip Tentative Agenda for September 13th & 14th -Leave Kerr Bus in Port Perry at 7:30 am and Head for Chatham (Pride Seeds) -Arrive in Chatham around 11:00-12:00, possibly visit some fields before getting to the processing plant. We will have lunch sponsored by Pride and then continue on the tour. Tour should last 4 hours, itinerary will include harvest, huskers, driers, picking at plant, auto bagger, colour sorter and palletizer. -Leave Chatham around 5:00 and head to London, arrive around 6:00 at hotel. The ho-tel will be taking care of our dinner in the ballroom. It will be a buffet with a cash bar. -Leave Hotel 8:00 a.m Wednesday morning and head to farm show in Woodstock. Spend the day and head home around 4-4:30. -Costs for the trip will be $100.00 per person for the hotel and buffet. I will need that amount to be paid up front to reserve your spot on the bus. There is room for 56 people and everyone will share a hotel room with another person. The bus will be covered by a Tier 1 grant through OSCIA. You do not have to have a species at risk on your farm to qualify.
