About EAP
East African Playgrounds is a charity which sees development in a different way by creating imaginative locally made places to Play. We send teams of students to Uganda to work alongside local schools to create community centred playgrounds and run great games and arts sessions for the children to explore, socialise, relax, and have fun!
Volunteering with EAP
The great thing about our volunteering project is that you live alongside your team of volunteers, the charity staff and of course the children and community that you will be impacting. Building the playground and running the arts and games sessions run alongside each other and last for one month, so you will see a school go from an empty canvas to a vibrant school that has a brand new high quality, safe, fun playground; designed and created by the children and community themselves and an enthusiastic art teacher who now has all the skills and knowledge to inspire creativity within the children. No experience needed, just enthusiasm!
Our Playgrounds
Our playgrounds are not only high quality, community centred and great fun; they also help contribute to the Ugandan economy by sourcing all the materials in Uganda, as well as being built by our fabulous Ugandan build team, with your help of course! Our welding team fabricates the playgrounds from scratch, and then our build team will work alongside you to help clear the land, dig foundation holes, cement in the structure, and then finally paint the finished playground! You’ll help us turn an empty field into a new playground in just four weeks.
MAKE A DIFFERENCE: VOLUNTEER IN UGANDA THIS SUMMER!

Games and Arts Program
Enjoy spending time with the children in the afternoon through playing educational games. Or explore your creative side by helping in our arts program to paint a new school mural designed by the children. No games or arts
experience is required.
Costs
As a charity, 100% of the money you raise gets spent on running our projects. Volunteers have always played a vital role in funding and supporting our work. We ask each volunteer to raise £700 and to pay £300 living costs (which covers on project: food, accommodation, support and transport). We help each volunteer to find the best flights, insurance and vaccinations which cost between £700-800.
Cultural Acceptance
EAP values the importance of local culture and therefore as visiting volunteers, you must too. Volunteers must dress appropriately and not drink alcohol during the week.
Ownership and Community
Developing a sense of ownership and community involvement is vital to the long term success of the projects. We do this by asking the locals to help build the playground, thus resulting in the community being proud of their
playground and games and arts programs.
Weekends Activities
Weekends on project are a time for you to explore and relax. We plan three adventurous weekends away: rafting, going on safari and chilling by the Nile, with the final weekend being a time of celebration of your work; there will be singing, dancing and plenty of playing when we
officially open the playground.
