Comprehensive ExamSchedule  

Fall, Year 1 Select permanent academic advisor and the major field of the study by the end of Fall Semester.   

Spring, Year 1

Comprehensive Examination Committee (CEC) is formed for each student by Apr. 15.  

Summer, Year 1

Student & advisor tailor Essential Knowledge list in accord with student’s thesis research area

Fall, Year 2 Required course on Scientific Writing must be taken by Fall of Second Year. Student requests CEC approval of his/her abstract of the thesis proposal and the Student’s Essential Knowledge list (by the end of Fall Semester). 

Spring, Year 2

Student submits his/her thesis proposal (by March 1) Two-step Written & Oral Examination:1. Written Exam (one day prior to Spring Break) 2. Oral examination (presentation of thesis proposal followed by questions/discussion; completed by April 15).
