Earthing SystemElectrical Earthing is one of the remarkable lifesaving discovery. Any electrical system devoid of connection to earth can have destructive consequences and may risk the life of people and property on the globe. A well-designed earthing system is mandatory as it also servers the Lightning Protection System in suppressing the harmful lightning surges. All the appliances must be grounded to ensure that any excessive current is directly passed into the ground.

The Copper Bonded ground rod is manufactured by an electrolytic process of 99.99% pure electrolytic copper coating of 250 microns thickness on low carbon, high tensile steel rod. This concoction contributes to the strength and conductivity of the whole system. This precisely tested and quality engineered product is widely accepted and recommended owing to its longevity and outstanding performance. JMV’s Copper Bonded Rod obeys IEC 62561-2, IEEE 80, UL 467, IS 3043 & NBC 2016. Moreover, CBR is UL Tested and Approved. The Rods can be accessed in standard diameter of 14.2mm, 17.2mm, 23.2 mm with standard length of 10 feet.

The National Electrical Grounding Research Project (NEGRP) Conducted by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Research Foundation depicts 40+ years performance of Copper Bonded Earthing Rod.

The copper clad steel conductor is made up of steel with an even coating of 99.99% pure copper. It is a cost effective and theft proof alternative for pure copper conductor. Equipped with strength of steel and the superior conductivity of copper, this concentric copper cladding is a metallurgical bonding that yields a composite electrical conductivity of 21%, 30% and 40% IACS and is available in Annealed and Hard Drawn. This homogeneous copper cladding can be single or multiple stranded based on the fault current carrying capacity. It is highly reliable, non-rusting and an effective solution which paves a low impedance path to the earth. It can withstand more mechanical abuses and is less prone to vibration-induced fatigue than solid copper or aluminium wire. Unlike GI, Copper Clad Steel Conductor possesses longer life-span and due to lesser joints, copper clad wires & strands sound more cost effective.

Earth Enhancement Compound:

With an extensive experience in the grounding & bonding system, JMV has developed a compact solution for smaller applications and for Photovoltaic systems named as- “Super Earthing Kit” and “Solar Earthing Kit”. These kits comprises of solid rod of steel along with carbon based earth enhancement compound to improve conductivity in every soil condition with a pre-welded bus bar jointed exothermically to make connection with strip/conductor. These kits are available in 14.2mm diameter, 4 feet length and customization is possible as per the site or client requirement.

IEEE 80 and NBC-2016 states that, multiple rods even in large numbers, may sometime fail to produce an adequately low resistance to earth. In order to reduce the soil resistivity, artificial soil treatment shall be adopted. RoHS compliant Earth Enhancement Compound contains 95% carbon content which makes it highly conductive material designed to lower grounding system resistance and improves grounding effectiveness in high resistivity soil conditions. It can be easily used in sites installed in areas with poor soil conductivity (such as rocky, sandy soil etc). It maintains constant soil resistance even in the driest season.JMv’s optimum quality earth enhancing compound complies IEC 62561-7 standard which sets the basic norms for the various tests like leaching test, sulphur test, resistivity test and the corrosion test.

Lightning flashes to, nearby structures or lines connected to the structures are hazardous to people, to the structures themselves, their contents and installations as well as to lines” as shown in fig. below-

Considering the devastating effects of External Lightning, JMV is proposing a well designed & calculated Lightning Protection Solution based on the type of structure, location, occupancy, risk of explosion, electrical and electronic equipment/ components that are sensitive to direct hit of lightning. In order to ease the risk assessment, JMV has developed software named Lightning Risk Assessment Calculator. This calculator is designed in compliance with IS/IEC 62305 and NBC 2016. With this software one can ensure whether his structure is protected without lightning protection system. If not then at what level of protection (LEVEL I-IV), the structure will be protected.

Lightning Protection System As Per IS/IEC 62305:Complying Standards IEC 62561, NFPA 780, NBC 2016 As per IS/IEC 62305 and NBC-2016, Lightning Protection System is a combination of external lightning protection & Internal lightning protection also known as Surge Protection Measures which shall be installed to avoid damages to the structures, accidents, severe injuries and even deaths of humans due to direct or indirect strikes of lightning.

External Lightning Protection components includes:1. Air Terminal is install to Intercept a lightning flash to the structure 2. Down Conductor is install to direct the devastating lightning current safely towards earth3. Earth Termination System to dissipate that current into the earth

Air Termination NetworkAs per IS/IEC 62305, Air termination components shall be installed at corners, exposed points and edges in accordance with one or more of the following methods of positioning. It is available in Aluminium, Copper, Copper Clad Aluminium & Copper Clad Steel as per standard specifications.

Connecting Accessories for LPS Installation:

As per IS/IEC 62305, Down conductors shall be preferably placed at the external part of the structure. In order to reduce the probability of damage due to lightning current flowing in the LPS, the down-conductors shall be installed straight and vertical such that they provide the shortestand most direct path to earth. The formation of loops shall be avoided. It is available in Aluminium, Copper, Copper Clad Aluminium & Copper Clad Steel as per standard specifications.

Lightning Protection System As Per NF C 17-102:Complying Standards NF C 17-102, UNE 21186 An ESE Lightning protection is a highly advance technique to safeguard any high rise structure against direct lightning. This is an active device solution fabricated with latest technology and proven techniques As per NF C 17-102. An ESE air terminal offers a wide range of radius of protection. ESE lightning air terminals are placed on highest part of the structure and connected to a lightning conductor and safely conduct the lightning current to the ground.

• ION STREAMER- A Non-Electronic Air TerminalA non-electronic air terminal based on Corona discharge technology uses the naturally occurring electrical field to complete the timely release of an upward streamer. During thunderstorm conditions when the lightning down leader is approaching ground level, an upward leader may be created by any surface. An initiation time of an upward leader is greatly reduced and an ION Streamer generates controlled magnitude and frequency pulses at the tip of the terminal during high static fields prior to a lightning .
